 James McGrath immigrated to Johnstone, Renfrewshire, Scotland from Ireland where he and his wife Elizabeth nee McComish/McCornish started a family. 

Years later his first son  James  immigrated toBrooklyn, New York where he joined the United States Army.  Among other activities during his career long stay in the Army he spent time in  Indian Country and in the Spanish American War campaign.  His later military assignments were as Fort Quatermaster Sargeant.  In 1912 he married Janet Bell Stevenson nee Gray of the Salt Lake City, Utah area.  In 1918 he is retired and was the ROTC Sargeant for Utah State Agricultural College.
