BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The firm of Alvin L. Franks, Ph.D., Hydrogeology,
Engineering/Environmental Geology Consultant is a small business with one Certified DVBE
Engineering Geologist and one contract secretary/bookkeeper. The company was formed
October 21, 1980 by Dr. Franks after 28 years of service with the State of California.
Sixty to seventy percent of the work done by the company is in the fields of hydrogeology,
ground water quality, soil contamination, and sewage disposal at waste disposal sites,
mines, manufacturing facilities, and other property with related problems. The remainder
of the projects are in foundations, slope stability, erosion/sedimentation, alignment, and
seismic analysis for construction related to structures, mines, roads, and waste disposal
facilities.
Dr. Franks is very familiar with the many
geology, hydrogeology, and engineering geology problems in the State of California. He has
also done work in the states of Florida, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, and Wyoming. He is a
Certified Hydrogeologist, Certified Engineering Geologist, Registered Geologist in the
State of California, and a Registered Professional Geologist in the State of Wyoming.
Foreign assignments have been completed in France, Greece, Germany, and an island in the
Indian Ocean. In addition to many clients in the private sector, he has worked on
contracts directly for Federal Government agencies, the State of California, and local
government agencies. He has also been a subcontractor to other firms working on Federal,
State, and local government contracts.
Any subcontracted services, such as drilling
rigs, laboratory testing, etc., are put out for bids to local companies near the specific
project. Supervision of the outside subcontractors and analysis of all work is done by Dr.
Franks.
