THIS WEB SITE IS DEDICATED TO THE DESCENDANTS OF JOHN MAUL FRAZEUR AND ALOIS GRAMLICH
We want to thank all of you who attended the reunion in Nebraska this year and in past years. We had a wonderful time renewing friendships and memories, and visited many sites in the area that played a large part in the history of both families. Though we may not get together in the same fashion in the future, the blood bonds that tie us together are far too strong to disappear. The poem below by one of our family members expresses our sentiments far better than we can. Enjoy your family roots and remember to come back to this site. Though the reunion may be a pleasant memory we will continue to keep this web site active with information of interest to the Frazeur and Gramlich families.
Old stone farm house
Windmill in the yard.
Double swing a swingin’
Kids playin’ hard.
Old Nebraska homestead
Hand pump at the sink.
For thirsty hands to come
And pump themselves a drink.
Red sandstone soft and mellow
Such a welcome sight.
To folks comin’ down the road
That house was sunshine bright.
Oh these are the memories
So clear in our minds.
That brings our clan together
And each to the other bind.
Family ties will never die
As long as there’s blue in Nebraska sky.

We have recently received some e-mails from a distant relative
of ours, Ralf Dorsam, from Berlin. Ralf is a descendant of the family of Catharina Dorsam,
Alois' mother. He has been doing some research into his family roots and came
across our web site. Thanks to his fine work, he has found church records
establishing the birth date and place for Alois Gramlich. These records clarify
some of the unknown chapters of Alois' life before he came to America. For
example, we are now fairly confident that Alois was born August 25, 1829 in or
near Unter-Schonmattenwag, Germany. This small town is located somewhat south of
Darmstadt, the town which we had thought was Alois' birthplace. Below are some
satellite photos of the area slowing focusing on the town of
Unter-Schonmattenwag:
Below is a couple of photos showing John the Baptist Catholic
Church where we now believe Alois was baptized and where the church records
discovered by Ralf Dorsam came from:
The information that Ralf has uncovered will soon be incorporated into our
history of Alois that is part of this web site (see "Gramlich History" button
above). In the meantime, if you wish to read a transcription of the records
provided by Ralf just click
here.
