About Artist
Andrij (Andy) Mrozowski was born
in Jarocin, Poland. He immigrated with his family to the United States in 1963 where he
received his BSEE and pursued graduate work in Applied Mathematics and Solid State
Physics. Andy was awarded several patents as a design engineer and later became a
successful Manager and Entrepreneur. Andy always enjoyed working with wood: he designed
and was commissioned to build furniture. He was fascinated with turned objects and forms,
and purchased his first lathe in 1980. He began woodturning and collecting woods from all
over the world as form of relaxation and diversion.

Statement
When I look at a tree, I
cant help but think of different forms that can be created. I use the combination of
all of the information that I have assimilated and experienced over the years to produce
shapes that satisfy me. I envision finished product in my mind before it is complete; I do
not measure my turnings prior to completion. I do not know if they fulfill the condition
of the golden rule or not I just know when the turning looks right. If a turning
does not look and feel right, I reject it. Using material that is unpredictable,
containing cracks, splits, bark inclusions, and which is always moving, I seek a balance
between color, texture and form. Releasing color, texture and even the history of a tree,
and displaying its appropriate shape and finish is exciting and immensely satisfying. I
receive inspiration from the force emanating from the wood. |
