My view on my trip to the Con-Monality Convention June 18-20, 1999 Novotel Airport Hotel.
DAY TWO
I got up at 9:30 and went downstairs to get an orange juice from the little "convience store" area of the hotel. Most of the "group" was in acting workshop that started at 10:00 am that morning. I now remember what went on! A girl that was an extra on E:FC (she was in Season One in the episode about the portal problem, she was the one that was disorintated and had to be helped off ) came and talked what it is like to be an extra. Being an extra is alot of hard work and you just can't be in it for the money, because the pay isn't all that great. That is unless you are a member of ACTRA. Those people get twice as much. She said it is really hard to get into ACTRA because you needed to have speaking rolls, etc. Also on any location, a set % of extras need to be from ACTRA. She wasn't suppose to be on first, but Eugene W. Roddenberry Jr. was running late. Well, he finally did get there. And was impressed! For some reason I'd thought I'd see a bald, heavy set gut with glasses. Don't ask me were it got that idea from! For I was sure wrong! His promotional pictures do not do him justice. You just had to be there and everyone that was there knows what I mean. He talked about E:FC for a while, saying stuff about Season Three and how much Season Two wasn't all that great. I know he said some really good stuff about Season Three, but I just can't remember it!
Then there was lunch. I honestly can say, I really wasn't impressed. The chicken looked "bad"and by the time I got to get the food half of it was gone. *Note: I also really don't understand why the called the cut vegetable platter-cruddites with dip.* Then, during lunch, they had a little contest with prizes under the seats ( it was an E:FC magnet-second season logo I think) which then entitled you to a choice of 2 pictures. I didn't win. After that we may have done something until the "guests" arrived, but I'm not sure.
Then the guests arrived. A few people were outside when the limo carrying them came. I had already gotten my seat in the conference room and had a seat next to Stella. First Anita La Selva came in. She had some flowers one of the fans gave her. She looked very nice. Then it was Richard Chevolleau. I believe when he came in, something almost happen to the table (were all the guess were to be seated). That just got a bit laugh from everyone. He was what everyone said he was, a "character". You could just tell. Then Leni Parker came in last. She carried herself very well. And at some point, maybe in the beginning Eugene W. Roddenberry Jr. came in and sat down on the end. *Note: Von Flores was not there due to another engagement (from what I heard he was taking motorcycle course), Robert Leeshock was home in New Jersey visiting his not well father (and for those who don't know his father has since passed away-our deepest sympathy), David Hemblen well, I guess he never reconfirmed and Lisa Howard wasn't going to attend any way.*
Of course there was the normal question and answer faze with little tidbits about Season Three mixed in. Augur's role takes a financial turn, and Zo'or's and Da'an's changes but how and anymore information about them, I just can't recall. Sorry! And I know it was good. Then came the autograph session. They were telling us to limit it to just two autographs per "guest". One thing (and I wish they told us this before the guest came) the second autograph would cost $5 CD. Not that I mind, because the "fee" was going to good causes. I know Leni's went to an animal rights group, but I don't recall were Anita's and Richard's went to. I can say when I got up to them, to sign the photos I bought earlier (there was dealer in the back of the room) my heart was pounding through my chest! Leni was first and of course very nice. Richard was next and he wrote a very nice autograph, dealing with my eyes. And pointed out to Anita and Leni how they looked. Then Anita, who as all of the guests, was out going and nice. Last was Eugene W. Roddenberry Jr. His autograph was strange. Then they all had to go (to a dinner I believe). As they were leaving Richard and Leni (I think) waved to us through the limo's sun roof. Over all it was very nice.
After that, I'm not sure again. It was about 4-4:30 when they left. If I'm correct, Eugene and two very nice women that worked on E:FC, Angela (she was the script supervisor) and Bethany ( she did blocking of the scenes). When they heard there was a E:FC convention in town, they just had to come. They were all very nice. They gave out alot of cool personal information ( well not TOO personal) about the actors and actresses on E:FC. Like what they call Robert on the set "Shocker" and some like "Little Bob...." Bethany told us about the baby shower the girls threw for Lisa and a bunch of other stuff too, that again I can't remember.
After that I went up to my room to get a quick bit to eat. It was about 8:00 pm when I came back down stairs. It seems a bunch of people were going out to dinner with Eugene. Boy, I walked in at the right time. I just invited myself, I believe (and some of us did miss out on that, I guess the idea all of a sudden came up). A whole lot of people piled in Eugene's ( Rod's) vehicle and some went in Baby Kosh's car (me). We had no idea where we were going and it turns out we went to restaurant just down the road! Fox and Fiddle ( or something like that). We all sat outside on the patio and had a very nice dinner. Rod was just great! Of course we talked about the show and other stuff. And at the end of dinner when we all got up to pay, to our surprise, Rod picked up the entire tab. And we were the ones that were going to pay for his dinner. What a really nice guy!
After dinner we went back to the hotel. We watched some videos, a video of an E:FC skit at another convention. Rod, to our great delight, had brought along with him a video of Season One bloopers. That was a real hoot! It was nice finally seeing some out-takes from Season One. Kevin Kilner swearing, Von Flores littlerally bitting Da'an's (?) head part way off, and my favorite overall, Da'an doing a little dance ( it was during "Old Flame" when they were just introducing the musician). Everyone was really laughing over that one! After that a little group of us, relating to philosphysphere.com had a meeting. Baby Kosh had a lap top, so we got online for a bit. Rod also called Carl ( his partner with philosphysphere.com) during this. Carl was working on roddenberry.com and chatted for a bit. We all then disbanded. I went up to my room, got my fuzzy slippers on and went down to Cleya's room to watch some Due South episodes Richard was in and of course some E:FC episodes. Rod was nice enough to stop by for a while and let us watch the blooper reel again ( some of us missed it ). Rod ended up getting a room at the hotel (he lives on the other side of Toronto). After awhile people started to thin out. I finally left at 2 or 3 am to go to bed. I was getting up early the next morning to go to breakfast with Rod ( he invited a bunch of people).
