Guitar Design Choices

Deerhead's guitar design and construction have evolved over 30 years and continues to develop on a daily basis. Each customer is encouraged to make aesthetic choices.

First and foremost is the choice of wood for the back and sides. Brazilian rosewood is most often selected for classical Deerhead Guitars. However other rosewoods are available such as Cocobolo, East Indian, and Honduran.

Wood choices for the top include European spruce or Engleman spruce (with or without bear claw) as well as cedar and redwood.

Of great concern and importance to the individual player is string length and fingerboard width. The string lengths of Deerhead Guitars accommodate any hand size, usually ranging from 630mm to 660mm.

Rosette designs and the binding, which edges the guitar, are aesthetic choices. Usually 3 to 4 rosette patterns are available to choose from, and rosewood, ebony, or maple may be selected for the binding.
