Monitors
CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) Monitors three electron guns for red,
green, and blue (RGB) there is one dot for each RGB color group called
a triad to form a pixel
Flat-Panel Displays do not have electron guns OR rely on
phosphors to create an image and therefore are flicker free and consume
less power than a CRT
LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) - uses electric currents and
polarizable crystals TFT or Active Matrix LCDs have sharper images when
compared to CRTs but are very expensive
Video Memory
VRAM dual ported RAM (can read and write data at the same time)
WRAM dual ported with faster RAM than VRAM
SGRAM not dual ported but masks writes to increase bandwidth
Interfaces
ATA (AT Attachment) - also called IDE, used to support hard drives
ATA-2 also called EIDE, supports hard drives, CDROMs, and tape
drives max 16.6 MBps and 8.4 GB data support
Ultra ATA - newer version of ATA that supports 33 MBps data
transfers
