He deliberately waited until the time was right to fill that room with people, wishing to murder, cripple and maim as many people as possible." Portia Bailey asks, "How do I know this?" Portia Bailey says, "His accomplice has confessed. He has described the stinking plot that they cooked up between them to murder our King, our Governors, and any other people who got in the way of that bomb." Portia Bailey says, "And there were innocent bystanders there that night. One of them died." Portia Bailey says, "She was a waitress, just a working stiff like most of us." Winston Chapel says, "He could have been killed as well." Winston Chapel says, "My client is also known to be an explosives expert." Winston Chapel asks, "Would such an expert make a mistake that could possibly have cost him his life?" Winston Chapel says, "The prosecution is going to parade evidence, conspiracy theories, and the person they claim as an accomplice." Winston Chapel says, "We will show in fact that none of this can be directly connected to Mr. Ghent." Winston Chapel says, "A tragedy has occured." Winston Chapel says, "Murder is a serious crime." Winston Chapel says, "The taking of lives is the most serious crime of all." Winston Chapel says, "If an innocent man spends the rest of his life in jail, his life has been taken away from him." Winston Chapel stands back up. Portia Bailey glances at Winston Chapel. Winston Chapel asks, "Your Honor, the Defense would like to make a motion for change of venue. How can we have a fair trial in the building where this tragedy occured?" Portia Bailey jumps around like a 12 year old. Terrisa Chavez groans. [A Renovated Building, Chandler Ghent's Office] A pall of muted light trickles from the pair of halogen lamps that serve to only slightly illuminate this office. A wide desk of darkly-stained oak lumbers across one side of the room, covered in piles of papers, reports and other information. Several simple but comfortable chairs are pushed against the wall a bit from the desk. You also see a wide oaken desk with some stuff on it and the main entry. Obvious exits: none. You shake your head. PBR - Private: Portia Bailey transmits, "Yes, Remi?" Courtney Chisolm asks, "Perhaps downstairs at the cells?" Courtney Chisolm gets a distant look on her face as she ponders. >transmit to por bai I was wondering if there were going to be witnesses other than the one you will be calling? You nod. [Police Department, Detention Area] Damp air tinged with the smell of mold fills this tiny basement room. Security bars stretch from one wall to the other, creating an effective place to detain those who have broken the law. The walls of cinderblock fairly weep with moisture, feeling cold and clammy to the touch. You also see an armed police officer guarding the area, a temporary holding cell, a narrow stairway and a cell door. Obvious exits: none. Courtney Chisolm followed. Courtney Chisolm nods to you. Courtney Chisolm asks, "Are we going to see her?" Courtney Chisolm fidgets. You say, "No, I needed money for a drink." You grin. [The Cantina, Bar] A polished wooden bar reflects the light of candles housed in wall sconces, the only illumination in the room. The dark color of the bar is echoed in the wooden bar stools. The patrons of this establishment are quiet and solitary, content to nurse their drinks in the comfort of the relative darkness. The only sounds are the quiet hum of air-conditioning from an air vent behind the bar and the chords of a classical guitar floating in from the dining room to the north. You also see a silver-framed plaque, Philip Gaser, a brass-framed plaque and a karaoke machine. Obvious exits: north, out. Courtney Chisolm followed. Courtney Chisolm laughs! transmit to port Bail Would my testimony be relevant to the trial? Courtney Chisolm says, "Remi, I'm really concerned about how Mark and Miranda will react if we do this." You sigh. You say, "I know." Courtney Chisolm says, "But I can't live with myself if I don't say what I think is true." Courtney Chisolm says, "I don't want to drag you down with me, though. They're your family." You say, "Aye, they're my family." You say, "Which makes it harder in a way." You say, "I feel as if I'm betraying them." Courtney Chisolm nods to you. You say, "Ye know, them being on the force and all." Courtney Chisolm says, "I do too. But we don't have the blood relationship." Courtney Chisolm nods to you. You nod to Courtney Chisolm. You say, "As soon as I get a definite answer, I'll drop your name." Courtney Chisolm asks, "What's being said?" You shrug. Courtney Chisolm takes a sip of her white wine. Courtney Chisolm paces back and forth. You say, "She's thinking about it." You say, "I asked her to mention it to the defense as well." Courtney Chisolm says, "She doesn't want people testifying for the defense." You say, "She says she's consulting with them now." You shrug. Courtney Chisolm says, "She'll bury you so deep the defense will never know your name." Courtney Chisolm paces back and forth. Courtney Chisolm mumbles something unprintable. You feel worried. You say, "That would not be good." Courtney Chisolm completely agrees with you. You say, "If she says no, I'm going to the judge." Courtney Chisolm says, "This is just nuts." You completely agree with Courtney Chisolm. You ask, "Why do they have to point at Ghent?" Courtney Chisolm says, "What kind of a defense team is this? They didn't even seek out the witnesses of the blast." You say, "If feelings weren't soo high..." Courtney Chisolm says, "I've been waiting for someone to find me for days." Courtney Chisolm paces back and forth. Courtney Chisolm says, "I don't know what I would have said if they did, but I expected them to at least try." You say, "I don't think Mark and Randa will completely turn away from you." You nod to Courtney Chisolm. PBR - Private: Portia Bailey transmits, "Please meet us at the Jade Dragon to discuss this. A marbled pattern to the wallpaper creates the illusion of being within a luminous cloud, broken only by partitions of cherrywood and frosted glass. The far wall is covered with a large mural in a glass case. You also see a private table with a RESERVED sign on it, a secluded booth, a pair of swinging doors and a quiet table. Obvious exits: east, out. Courtney Chisolm followed. Portia Bailey just arrived. Courtney Chisolm comforts you. Remi MacGregor smiles nervously at Portia. Courtney Chisolm nods to Portia Bailey. Portia Bailey glances around. You say, "Hello, I'm Remi MacGregor." Gregory Townsend just arrived. Portia Bailey asks, "Is Townsend here yet?" Remi MacGregor extends her hand. Portia Bailey shakes your hand. Gregory Townsend nods. Courtney Chisolm says, "I'm Courtney Chisolm." Portia Bailey and Courtney Chisolm shake hands. Courtney Chisolm squeezes Remi's hand tightly. Courtney Chisolm says, "We've talked about this for a couple days. And we've come to the conclusion that we can't complain about the justice system if we aren't willing to participate." You sit down. Portia Bailey seems curious. Courtney Chisolm glances at you. Portia Bailey nods. Gregory Townsend sits down. You completely agree with Courtney Chisolm. Portia Bailey sits down. Gregory Townsend gets a sleek black and gold pen from inside his leather briefcase. You take a deep breath of air. You say, "I was outside the board room at the time of the bombing." Courtney Chisolm nervously chews on her lower lip. Courtney Chisolm nods. Courtney Chisolm says, "So was I. We were talking with Mr. Ghent." Gregory Townsend nods. Portia Bailey nods. You say, "After the bombing, things got very chaotic." You say, "Tae say the list." Courtney Chisolm nods. You say, "Least." You clear your throat loudly. Gregory Townsend writes a few lines in a yellow legal notepad. Courtney Chisolm says, "We were with Mr. Ghent for nearly 30 minutes prior to the explosion." Courtney Chisolm says, "He never left the area." You completely agree with Courtney Chisolm. Courtney Chisolm says, "He never did anything really odd or unseemly." Gregory Townsend asks, "Excuse me, is this the substance of what you wanted to discuss?" Courtney Chisolm says, "He was annoying, but last I checked, that wasn't a crime." You say, "Not exactly." You blush a nice shade of off-pink. Courtney Chisolm smiles at you. Gregory Townsend nods. You say, "Sorry." Gregory Townsend says, "Please, go on." You say, "AFter the bombing, I seeked Mr. Ghent out to talk with him." You say, "Many people were already accusing him of being the perpatrator." Courtney Chisolm nods. Courtney Chisolm says, "Before the dust cleared, he was convicted." You say, "I had been curious as to his views on the current state of island affairs." Gregory Townsend asks, "How long after the bombing did you go to find him?" You feel thoughtful. You say, "A good 20 to 30 minutes I would say." You say, "I was pretty shaken up after the blast." You say, "Then I went to the hospital." Gregory Townsend nods. Courtney Chisolm nods. You say, "I found Mr. Ghent in his office." Gregory Townsend writes a few lines in a yellow legal notepad. You say, "We discussed several things for about an hour." You say, "In that time, he expressed his views about the government." whis cour I feel the noose tightening around my neck! Courtney Chisolm gently pats Remi's hand. Remi MacGregor glances down at her nails. Courtney Chisolm says, "Keep going, Remi. It'll be OK." You breathe a sigh of relief. Courtney Chisolm smiles weakly. You say, "In that time, we were interrupted twice." You say, "No, three times." You say, "Once by Jesse Jones, who interrogated him, then by same man whom I don't know." You say, "The third time, Ami Stuart came in and left briefly." You say, "At that time, a few detectives came to uh...talk with Mr. Ghent." You say, "And that was when I left." Winston Chapel just arrived. You glance at Winston Chapel. Courtney Chisolm stands back up. Courtney Chisolm nods to Winston Chapel. Gregory Townsend nods to Winston Chapel. Winston Chapel sits down. Winston Chapel nods. Gregory Townsend writes a few lines in a yellow legal notepad. Gregory Townsend shows a yellow legal notepad to Winston Chapel. Remi MacGregor scrapes the tip of her thumbnail with her lower teeth. Winston Chapel says, "Winston Chapel. Pleased to meet you." Winston Chapel smiles. You feel nervous. Courtney Chisolm comforts you. Courtney Chisolm says, "Remi has much more to offer you than I do." You say, "During my discussion with Mr. Ghent, I felt that he didn't believe in overthrowing the government." You say, "He never stated that in direct terms." whis cour Gah, I can't remember if I recorded our conversation. Damn me. Courtney Chisolm whispers, "I recorded the events just prior to the bombing." You say, "And that's about it." Courtney Chisolm smiles at you. You say, "I just felt that with the charges pending, especially the treason one, that that conversation would be somewhat relevant." Courtney Chisolm takes a deep breath of air. You shrug. Gregory Townsend gets a distant look on his face as he ponders. Courtney Chisolm says, "All I can offer is a telling of what transpired prior to the explosion and immediately after." Courtney Chisolm says, "But if it has to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Mr. Ghent is responsible, then I believe I have reasonable doubt." Gregory Townsend says, "Unfortunately, it is likely that the treason charge will be directly related to the findings on the murder counts." Courtney Chisolm nods. You nod. Courtney Chisolm says, "May I tell you of one odd instance just prior to the bomb going off? I don't wish to waste your time." Portia Bailey nods to Courtney Chisolm. Courtney Chisolm leans forward. Courtney Chisolm rests her arms on the table. Gregory Townsend nods to Courtney Chisolm. Courtney Chisolm frowns. Courtney Chisolm says, "Everyone who entered the boardroom had a key." Courtney Chisolm says, "They unlocked the door, opened it, went in and then locked it behind them." You completely agree with Courtney Chisolm. Courtney Chisolm says, "Not that I want to cast blame in any direction, but the waitress, Marie, slipped into the room a few short minutes before the bombing." Courtney Chisolm says, "She came back out and made a flip comment about them not being ready for her yet." Courtney Chisolm asks, "Has anyone tested the tray she was carrying to see if there was any residue from perhaps a small spill of some incendiary material?" Gregory Townsend gets a distant look on his face as he ponders. Gregory Townsend asks, "Will both of you be available tomorrow, during trial hours?" Courtney Chisolm nods to Gregory Townsend. You nod to Gregory Townsend. You say, "Yes sir." Gregory Townsend says, "Ms. Bailey, if you have nothing for them, I'd like a private conference." Portia Bailey says, "Thank you for coming forward, albeit late in the process." Portia Bailey stands back up. Courtney Chisolm nods to Portia Bailey. You nod to Portia Bailey. Gregory Townsend says, "Thank you, Portia." Courtney Chisolm says, "We wanted to earlier, but had trouble making contact." Portia Bailey just went through the main dining room. Gregory Townsend smiles. Courtney Chisolm asks, "She's not happy with us, is she?" Courtney Chisolm sighs. Gregory Townsend says, "I find it interesting that you went to the Crown with this information." You say, "Eh, wasn't our first choice." You say, "I had tried contacting Mr. Chapel, but I couldn't get through." Courtney Chisolm says, "I did the same." You say, "Ms. Bailey..." You make a funny face. Courtney Chisolm says, "We ran all over town trying to find your office." Gregory Townsend nods. You say, "Was the only one I managed to get a hold of." Courtney Chisolm says, "We were just getting ready to come to you when you slipped out of the courtroom." Gregory Townsend says, "I did not expect to have people coming forward this late in the case." Courtney Chisolm says, "Mr. Townsend, you need to understand something ..." Courtney Chisolm says, "You've heard the comments being bandied who want Mr. Ghent to fry." Gregory Townsend nods. Courtney Chisolm says, "Some of the strongest comments come from family and friends of ours." Courtney Chisolm says, "We risk a lot by being here." You completely agree with Courtney Chisolm. Courtney Chisolm says, "But we also believe in justice." Courtney Chisolm says, "I don't like Mr. Ghent." You say, "Which, it may be hard to get if some people get their way." Courtney Chisolm says, "But I refused to see him railroaded." Gregory Townsend says, "I understand how grave a circumstance this is, and thank you for coming forward." Gregory Townsend says, "The fact is, Mr. Ghent is innocent." Courtney Chisolm agrees with Gregory Townsend. Courtney Chisolm says, "You're right." You nod to Gregory Townsend. Gregory Townsend says, "There may be reason to call you to the stand." Gregory Townsend asks, "Would you be willing to put this on record?" You nod to Gregory Townsend. You say, "Yes sir." Courtney Chisolm nods slowly. Courtney Chisolm says, "Yes." Gregory Townsend glances at you. Courtney Chisolm asks, "Mr. Townsend, may I ask one thing?" You nod to Gregory Townsend. Remi MacGregor scrapes the tip of her thumbnail with her lower teeth. Gregory Townsend says, "Any further recollection you have as to the substance of Mr. Ghent's comments on the government would be helpful to know now." Gregory Townsend nods to Courtney Chisolm. You nod to Gregory Townsend. You say, "I'm trying to recall the conversation." Courtney Chisolm says, "If you choose to call one of us, could you call both of us? If we stand together, it's likely to go better with our family and friends once this mess is over." You say, "I know I recorded it somewhere. I'm trying to remember where I put the cassette." Gregory Townsend says, "If we call one of you, it is likely both of you will be called, yes." Courtney Chisolm nods to Gregory Townsend. Courtney Chisolm says, "Thank you. My concern is that we need to continue our lives here no matter what happens to Mr. Ghent." Courtney Chisolm says, "And it will be better if we can stand together as doing the right thing." Courtney Chisolm smiles at you. You completely agree with Courtney Chisolm. You say, "The hardest part is we're friends and family with the most vocal of Mr. Ghent's opponents." Courtney Chisolm nods. Courtney Chisolm says, "And they happen to work for the PD." You say, "So the mere fact that I had a private conversation with your man..." You sigh. You shrug. Courtney Chisolm rubs you gently. Gregory Townsend nods. Courtney Chisolm says, "It will be OK, Remi. I promise." Courtney Chisolm smiles at you. You say, "I hope so." You say, "I don't like the idea of the lack of evidence." You say, "Nor who is on the jury." Gregory Townsend says, "If I can locate you before the trial, I will let you know as to our state of mind about putting you on the stand." Courtney Chisolm says, "Heck, I have no idea how I'd keep that promise, but I'll go to my grave defending the fact that we came forward." You nod. Gregory Townsend says, "But you must understand that you may be needed to refute evidence." Gregory Townsend says, "And so could be called at the last minute." You say, "Yes sir." Courtney Chisolm nods. Gregory Townsend says, "You've done the right thing." Courtney Chisolm asks, "What time does the trial resume tomorrow?" Gregory Townsend says, "9:30 PM EST." Courtney Chisolm nods. You nod. Courtney Chisolm jots a note in her planner. You say, "Oh, I remember where I put that cassette." You ask, "Would you like a copy?" You ask, "Dropped off at your office?" Gregory Townsend nods. You smile. You say, "I'll drop it off later tonight." Gregory Townsend smiles. Courtney Chisolm says, "Thank you for taking the time to meet with us." You nod. Courtney Chisolm says, "I hope it wasn't a wasted effort." Gregory Townsend says, "Thank you again for coming forward." You say, "Yes, and sorry it took so long to decide." You blush a nice shade of off-pink. Gregory Townsend nods. Courtney Chisolm sighs. Gregory Townsend puts his notepad in his leather briefcase. Courtney Chisolm says, "Well, Remi, I'm sure these gentlemen have much to discuss." Gregory Townsend puts his pen in his leather briefcase. You nod. You say, "You're right." Courtney Chisolm stands back up. You smile. You stand back up. Gregory Townsend smiles. Courtney Chisolm and Gregory Townsend shake hands. Courtney Chisolm and Winston Chapel shake hands. You say, "Good luck to the both of you." You smile at Winston Chapel. You smile at Gregory Townsend. Courtney Chisolm says, "Thank you again." Gregory Townsend shakes your hand. Gregory Townsend nods. Courtney Chisolm smiles at you. You breathe a sigh of relief. Courtney Chisolm hugs you.
