Aine MacLlyr says, "Our judges tonight are Andrew Wigen, Jade Rose and Jason Texas" Aine MacLlyr says, "Our backup judges are Sinder Rose and Jimbob Ponaka, in that order" Aine MacLlyr says, "Judges, you will score each reading from1 to 20" Aine MacLlyr says, "One is the worst ... 20 the best" Aine MacLlyr says, "Please REPORT your score when the act is over" Aine MacLlyr says, "Aslana and I will tally the scores. All scores are final" Aine MacLlyr says, "Alright, then, I think we are ready to begin." Aine MacLlyr calls the assembly to order. After a moment the crowd quiets down. Aine MacLlyr says, "The first entrant is Eric Kennedy" Eric Kennedy stands up to address the assembly. Eric Kennedy says, "This poem is called The Screelings." Eric Kennedy recites: "The Screelings are lose and the Keeper may win His assassins have come to rip off your skin" Eric Kennedy recites: "Golden eyes will see you if you try to run The Screelings will get you and laugh like it's fun." Eric Kennedy recites: "Walk away slowly or they'll tear you apart And laugh all day long as they rip out your heart" Eric Kennedy recites: "Golden eyes will see you if you try to stand still The screelings will get you for the Keeper they kill" Eric Kennedy recites: "Hack em up, Chop em up, Cut em to bits Or the Screelings will get you , laughing in fits" Eric Kennedy recites: "If the Screelings don't get you, the Keeper will try To reach out and touch you, your skin he will fry." Katt Blade says, "heh, ok, I wrote this..but I never gave it a title so you'll have to live" Katt Blade recites: "We are born with hope 8lbs. and 21 inches... Of hope." Katt Blade recites: "We know only of sunshine, trust, love And cotton candy clouds Residing high in the sky Above the meadows and fields of our youth." Katt Blade recites: "We believe... We know... Our parents love us There will always be friends to play with. Life is good." Katt Blade recites: "Then... We venture out of our fields And meadows.." Katt Blade recites: "We meet a man. His name is reality. He wears no clothes. His soul is his self." Katt Blade recites: "And it is condemned. He trusted and believed and knew." Katt Blade recites: "Now He tried to save his dying children. He shows us the hiding places of monsters, The divorce decree" Katt Blade recites: "Under the bed, The candy is poisoned And friends only hate you Bedrock doesn't exist." Katt Blade recites: "Life is sad. I have always been glad I met the man." Katt Blade recites: "He taught me to survive. The only wish I still cling to hopelessly Is one I can never fulfill." Aine MacLlyr says, "Next is Nina Perrson." Nina Perrson stands up to address the assembly. Nina Perrson fidgets nervously while cautiously glancing about the room. Nina Perrson grins. (Nina Perrson takes a crumpled piece of paper out of her pocket and flattens it out on her jeans.) (Nina Perrson clears her throat.) Nina Perrson says, "ok.." Nina Perrson says, "this is called a night by the riverside" Nina Perrson recites: "One night i walked, as oft i do Down by the riverside Under darkness and th emoon There to myself confide" Nina Perrson recites: "And as i stopped and watched the flow Of river and of life I sensed a something in the wind A seasoning, a spice" Nina Perrson recites: "A stealthy ghost, i crept along The source i sought to find And there around the riverbend Two dancers intertwined" Nina Perrson recites: "Enraptured and engrossed i sat A time and watched the dance A witness of a sight quite rare A riverside romance" Nina Perrson recites: "No music, nay, no tune of earth Accompanied the pair But music of a higher birth Their love, it filled the air" Nina Perrson recites: "Two minds, two selves, were two no more There on the river bank A mystical joining of these two Though jealous, i do thank" Nina Perrson recites: "Deep into the night i spend This dance, it had no end The morning neared, the darkness waned The moon it did descend" Nina Perrson recites: "As silent as i came i went But with a sorrowed heart For i must to the world return And from these two depart" Nina Perrson recites: "For all i know, they dance there still The swaying sillhouettes" Nina Perrson recites: "Through night, through life, through all they'll love A love with no regrets" Nina Perrson bows. Edward Straker recites: "I came to Morada to rest But the island left me gravely depressed people were killed and they died and of rest I was robbed and deprived--" Edward Straker recites: "I talked with some ghostly being When all I had planned was sight-seeing I read an autopsy report that left me feeling ill And some white space woman made me swallow her pills-" Edward Straker recites: "I climbed rocks in the jungle area and I can tell you it was no day at the Faira, I bled to death on broken glass and a crocodile chewed my leg fast, and no matter what I would do it seemed some arrogant man came into view and that wasn't *that* bad this is true but a perp that cartwheels better than you?" Edward Straker recites: "I had thought myself keen at mystery but my opinion soon became ancient history.. I'd seize happily what I thought was a clue great only to find a red herring on my plate And I'd hunt in the FQ air to catch perps who moved like Fred Astaire And I was not amused when the perps I accused wore Italian suits and fine leather shoes I had the inferior wardrobe blues." Edward Straker recites: "I'd go to the cantina to eat... grab a bite, rest a while, take a load off my feet but the prices soon made me cry, 40 bucks for a lousy pizza pie?" Edward Straker recites: "If that wasn't sufficiently eerie, of my own comm I began to be leery You might be speaking to an intelligent kangaroo Who just carried off a friend that you knew but provided I had enough cash To a merchant I'd go off like a flash But by the time he or she called my name I was too old to know quite why I came" Edward Straker recites: "And even with all this grief I stayed, my patience certainly frayed ,I'd encounter rats bent on revenging their kin while sipping tepid water & gin." Edward Straker recites: "I flock to wedding receptions for a seat Just to pile up stuff delicious to eat deliver envelopes to Irma, Frank and Shreve, but the part *I* find hard to conceive, is why Mel the jeweler begged me to bring him a ring with a gem When there it was In his case In front of him..." Edward Straker recites: "When I'd ask the locals to chat Nobody knows anything about that when I gave the casino a try Gone were my chips in the blink of an eye And forget trying to force your backpack to hold all your things A t-bar weighs the same as two rings And I found when I tried instead into my locker to cram suits, a kit and a slice of spam that before I finally got to it, it was jammed too full So I quit!" Edward Straker recites: "So if you're wondering what all this means to you when your travel agent's spiel is through And he suggests Morada is tops lean over and give him some bops And take a lesson from me This is my heartfelt plea Don't let the ferry man to Morada take ya swim as fast as you can to Jamaica!!!!!!" Jana Israel says, "This is called Sorcery of the Sun." Jana Israel recites: "The evil spirits gathered Underneath the muted trees, Their mutters heard by no one Save the rustling reeds" Jana Israel recites: "The night was sad and secret The world in mourning lay Waiting, ever waiting, For the start of a new day." Jana Israel recites: "An owl with silver wingtips Flew across the starlit sky "Who?" he asked the slumbering trees, But only his echo replied." Jana Israel recites: "The golden wizard of old Dispersed the evil beings. His warming rays shone brighter As he watched them fleeing." Jana Israel recites: "The earth began to stir, And the morn began to break Glorious beams of sunlight Spread across the shining lake." Jana Israel recites: "And then the trees sang joyfully Before the rising sun, While mountains stood in silence The ancient ritual had begun" Jana Israel recites: "The clouds were quiet up above As they watched the scene unfold The ceremony was repeated As creation was retold." Aine MacLlyr says, "Next is Sunshine Marigold." Sunshine Marigold stands up to address the assembly. Sunshine Marigold says, "This is a poem that I wrote last year. It's a direct parody of this sap-o-rama called "Bury Me Not on the Lone Prairie." " Sunshine Marigold grins. (Sunshine Marigold takes a deep breath.) Sunshine Marigold recites: ""O bury me not at Bob's Used Car Tree," These words came high and mournfully From the moistened lips of a drunk who lay On his bus stop bench at the dawn of day..." Sunshine Marigold recites: ""O bury me not at Bob's Used Car Tree Where weasel salesman will prey over me Sharin' a 'fixer-upper' grave with a hive of bees O bury me not at Bob's Used Car Tree..." Sunshine Marigold recites: ""O bury me not at Bob's Used Car Tree Where cigar butts float over the oily sea Where the bullets fly, and the smog goes free-- O bury me not at Bob's Used Car Tree..."" Sunshine Marigold recites: "But we buried him at Bob's Used Car Tree Where the neon sign all night glares mournfully And the sirens wail, and the smog moves free O'er his lonely grave at Bob's Used Car Tree." Daniel Johnston recites: "And if you fly a MIG I'll surely shoot at you." Daniel Johnston recites: "My Sidewinders are hot They never make a miss." Armand Chascour says, "I call this "lament of the eldritch Moradine"" Armand Chascour recites: "' My heart has strayed past the barricade It belongs where I cannot follow" Armand Chascour recites: "' Whenever I try some perp walks by and blows my clothing hollow" Armand Chascour falls over. Armand Chascour recites: "' My friends are sympathetic they offer me arms and kits" Armand Chascour recites: "' But still Its me who gets strick and its them who lands the hits" Armand Chascour collapses in a heap on the floor. Armand Chascour recites: "' so now I earn safe noto and like a beggar be paid" Armand Chascour gets a distant look on his face as he ponders. Armand Chascour recites: "' yet my eyes turn OWF-wise" Armand Chascour sobs. Armand Chascour recites: "' to my hame past the barricade!" Armand Chascour begins to weep softly. Armand Chascour gets a white cotton handkerchief from inside his relaxed-tweed suit. (Armand Chascour blows his nose.) Armand Chascour bows. Aine MacLlyr says, "Next is Brian Indiana." Brian Indiana stands up to address the assembly. Brian Indiana says, "Any similarities of the names in my poem to people here on Morada is pure coincidence" Brian Indiana winks. Brian Indiana recites: "Twas the night of the poetry slam and all through Morada the bars were all empty (no one doing the lambada)" Brian Indiana recites: "And Julie and her t-bar and I and my four-point star had just settled in for some romance at the Cabaret bar" Brian Indiana recites: "When all of a sudden there arose such a clatter I sprang from my bar stool, spilling my grilled pork chop platter" Brian Indiana recites: "The lights of the Morada street shown so bright on someone else's perp who Julie then fixed in her sight" Brian Indiana recites: "With a quick t-bar strike, the perp's head was sent rolling And the perp accuser cried over the perp Julie had stolen" Brian Indiana recites: "To the comm the accuser went and boy did she roar "I need a GM, Julie has knocked my perp's head to the floor"" Brian Indiana recites: "But alas the GMs were all at the poetry slam or on vacation So the accuser cried as I gave Julie a standing ovation" Brian Indiana recites: "So remember that even though poaching is hated by most of us here today It can be fun if the GMs are away" Brian Indiana recites: "And thus our poachers wait for the day the GMs all leave to vacation in Botswana So they don't have to worry about the likes of Siri, Jerry, Aine or Aslana" Brian Indiana smiles. Audrey Reede recites: "If I happen to sleep before I dream, shake me." Audrey Reede recites: "If I should talk before I think, excuse me." I just want people to know about some lines from a song that explained the way I felt for a few years.I've been over it now but this always reminds me of what happened to me" Noodles Holland says, "Before I begin I wanna dedicate this to my longtime friend Aron Drakes. He just packed his bags for the mainland today. He's the person that first took me to Morada..." Noodles Holland glances at a dagger with the name Aron etched into one side and the name Drakes on the other. Noodles Holland says, "i'll miss ya buddy..." Noodles Holland recites: "Sometimes I think I'm gonna drown Cause everyone around's so hollow And I'm alone" Noodles Holland recites: "Sometimes I think I'm going down But no one makes a sound, they follow And I'm alone" Noodles Holland recites: "Yeah and if I make it I'd be amazed Just to find tomorrow Yeah one more day and I'd be amazed Just to see it waitin" Noodles Holland recites: "Yeah and if I make it I'm still alone No more hope for better days But if I could change Then I'd really be amazed" Noodles Holland recites: "And when you know you can't relate To one more shiny face Your heart breaks No one cares" Noodles Holland sniffles. Sinder Rose recites: "This I wrote for Gina Rose" Sinder Rose recites: "I recite these words for you And I can only hope you hear them I sit here, thinking of you While you watch me above in heaven" Sinder Rose recites: "Your body rests under the ground And yet your sould is still with me Inside my heart it's very much alive And in there, it will always be" Sinder Rose recites: "When I close my eyes You image is there From your cute little sneakers To your long, flowing hair" Sinder Rose recites: "Your life was full of sadness And you knew your fate was death But all you did was help others Even with your health" Sinder Rose recites: "I am not a poet, and you can see that from this poem But it all comes from the heart I miss you more than anything " Sinder Rose exclaims, "um..what rhymes with heart..? Start? Cart? Mart? Tart? Smart..? That's it!" Sinder Rose recites: "For some reason you were always good at poetry so I need you to get down here so you could write this poem and make me look smart!" Sinder Rose says, "Well, it's not the best thing I ever wrote, but I really miss her, as you guys know by now, and I sat down to write a poem, and she was all I could think about. The problem is I can't write anything, let alone something that rhyme" Sinder Rose says, "rhymes, even." Sinder Rose bows. Aine MacLlyr gets an etched crystal medal edged in bronze from inside her velvet cloak. Aine MacLlyr exclaims, "Our third place winner is ... Caitlyn Horowitz!" Aine MacLlyr gets an etched crystal medal edged in silver from inside her velvet cloak. Aine MacLlyr exclaims, "Our Second Place winner is ... Edward Straker!" Aine MacLlyr gets an etched crystal medal edged in gold from inside her velvet cloak. Aine MacLlyr exclaims, "Our First Place winner is ... Brian Indiana!"
