[The Portmanteau Club, Sitting Room] The light scent of gardenias lingers in this room, pushing away the more mundane odors of the street outside. A brace of wide, chintz covered couches face each other across the narrow bounds of a ring-marked coffee table, each showing signs of having recently been occupied. A group of armchairs gather around a many-branched reading lamp, and offer a small haven of well-worn comfort for those inclined to sit with a good book or the daily newspaper. You also see an archway, an ashcan and a swinging door. Also in the room: People Obvious exits: none. Gabriella Valdez calls the assembly to order. After a moment the crowd quiets down. Nicholas Lancaster taps the microphone. Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Hmm. Is this thing on?" Gabriella Valdez grins. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Before we begin, I have one favor to ask. This is a highly-charged issue, and we all have strong beliefs about the subject. But nothing will be served by either side getting in each other's faces. Nobody's keeping score here. Nobody wins anything for being a jerk." Nicholas Lancaster smiles. Gabriella Valdez nods to Nicholas Lancaster. Valentine Lennox agrees with Nicholas Lancaster. Nicholas Lancaster says, "I understand that some of you have friends who no longer play Modus Operandi. If they would like to address concerns inside the game, they're welcome to do so in person, or by e-mail to Siri Macallan at mo-siri@play.net" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I have a few points to go over, and then we'll open the floor for questions, comments, and suggestions. Let's keep it cool, and we'll not only get somewhere, but perhaps we'll get out of here before tomorrow morning." Aviva Jacobsen begins chuckling at Nicole Walsh. Nicholas Lancaster says, "If the group would like, I can also make a copy of my remarks available to Miles for the ModusList." Nicholas Lancaster nods. Nicholas Lancaster says, "The central issue can be broken down into four components: Privacy, Trust, Responsibility, and Respect." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Privacy." Nicholas Lancaster says, "While the Terms and Conditions, or TAC, clearly state that private conversations are, in fact, private, it is mediated by broader considerations -- also set forth in the TAC." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Privacy is not an absolute in this regard, but a relative. That's not a 'when we feel like it' or 'when it suits our purposes.' Privacy assures you that a moment alone with a significant other is confidential, but it will not protect you from flagrant violations of TAC and specific Game Policy." Nicholas Lancaster says, "The GameMasters are also constrained against discussing another player's situation or information with another player. We do not divulge specifics about warnings, disciplinary actions, or personal information." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Trust." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Just as you trust the staff to conduct themselves fairly and objectively, we have placed considerable trust in you, the player, to conduct yourselves in an equally appropriate manner. This pertains to everything from making an honest effort to moderate your language to being honest about bugs." Nicholas Lancaster says, "For our part, it is a promise to be fair, objective, and generally stay out of your business unless you make it an in-game issue through use of vulgarity or disruptive behavior." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Responsibility." Nicholas Lancaster says, "GameMasters are under contract to Simutronics. We are responsible for enforcing TAC/Game Policy fairly and objectively. The guidelines under which we operate are far more stringent than a simple stricture against vulgarity; they cover what we can and cannot discuss with players and/or non-employees, in - and out - of the game." Nicholas Lancaster says, "They also touch upon intellectual property rights, so if you think YOU don't have privacy, take a moment to imagine life on our side of the line." Nicholas Lancaster grins. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Respect." Nicholas Lancaster says, "It's easier to dislike us if you believe that we don't respect you. And, though it's an old saw, it happens to be true: respect is a two-way street." Nicholas Lancaster says, "We're not talking about stand-at-attention, click your heels, sir-yes-sir! Respect is largely courtesy, amongst yourselves as much as between players and staff." Nicholas Lancaster says, "In the past week, there have been posts depicting us as contradictory, biased, and power-hungry." Nicholas Lancaster says, "To be honest, all those charges are true." Nicholas Lancaster says, "I'm often contradictory. Sometimes I warn people for being vulgar, and other times, I give them the benefit of the doubt." Nicholas Lancaster says, "I'm biased. I have opinions about what makes good roleplay, and I'm fairly strict when I am put in the position of enforcing specific policies." Nicholas Lancaster says, "I'm power hungry. When I started playing the game, I knew I wanted to be a part of the creative process, and have applied myself to learning the mechanics of what makes all this possible." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Perhaps that's not what you meant." Aviva Jacobsen grins at Nicholas Lancaster. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Consider this, as well. We hire almost exclusively from among the existing player base. So we can be no more contradictory, biased, or power hungry than the best -- or worst -- of you." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Now, we'll take questions, comments, and suggestions. " Cris Rhedfield stands up to address the assembly. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Cris." Gabriella Valdez smiles at Cris Rhedfield. Cris Rhedfield says, "sorry, accident. Meant to raise my eyebrow when you said people thought you were power-hungry" Cris Rhedfield blushes a nice shade of off-pink. Valentine Lennox smiles at Cris Rhedfield. Cris Rhedfield sits down. Gabriella Valdez grins. Gabriella Valdez pats Cris on the back. Aviva Jacobsen comforts Cris Rhedfield. Nicholas Lancaster grins. Aviva Jacobsen grins. Having finished addressing the assembly Cris Rhedfield sits back down. Jade Rose stands up to address the assembly. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Jade." Jade Rose waves. Gabriella Valdez waves to Jade Rose. Valentine Lennox smiles at Jade Rose. Jade Rose says, "I think it's alright for GMs and stuff to warn people about saying stuff out loud, but I'm sick to death of knowing that my whispers are getting heard. I know this is a real tired topic, but it's true. I'm sick of hearing about people getting warnings about their conversations in whispers. I don't enjoy people listening to my private conversations on the mainland and the same thing applies here." Jade Rose says, "One person I know was warned for cursing in a whisper. The person they were talking to wasn't offended. The person was just venting steam after something that happened. Yet, he was warned. He was waned and he wasn't even offending anyone. I don't think this is right. I think that THIS is a violation of privacy. It's not like he was trying to come up with a way to conspire against the citizens oMorada or something. Not at all. THIS is a violation of Privacy and our rights as citizens and even more so, human beings." Jade Rose says, "Now, hold on. I have something which I don't have prepared. This'll take a quick second." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Not a problem." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "While Jade is getting set, the question is - can we hear whispers?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I'd love to, but I don't have the time. I'm too busy spying on everyone." Jade Rose says, "Also, there's a thing I just read about with the trust issue. Someone felt that maybe they could be trusted. They turned themselves in after abusing a mistake they found on the island. They got numerous potatoes to peel for it, even though they ADMITTED that it was their mistake. Is that fair? I think when we put trust in others, we should get some trust back." Gabriella Valdez grins at Nicholas Lancaster. Jade Rose asks, "Can I ask a question, then?" Jade Rose asks, "If you couldn't read the person's whispers, how did you know when he was cursing?" Jade Rose asks, "Was it just random peeking?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Seriously, if you give us cause, through prior or current behavior, to believe that you are violating policy, we can monitor your actions." Jade Rose asks, "What about the other thing?" Jade Rose asks, "The person that turned themselves in?" Jade Rose says, "Others have gotten away with worse things when they were caught by GMs." Jade Rose says, "As opposed to honestly turning themselves in." Nicholas Lancaster says, "In regards to the trust issue, you brought up a good point. I don't know the specifics of the incident, but I believe we would give the benefit of the doubt to someone who turned themselves in upon first discovering the bug." Jade Rose nods. Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Any other questions?" Jade Rose says, "OK. Thank you." Jade Rose looks over at Nicholas Lancaster and shakes her head. Having finished addressing the assembly Jade Rose sits back down. Nicholas Lancaster nods. Chance Nevada stands up to address the assembly. Chance Nevada says, "Sorry for being off the cuff" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Chance." Gabriella Valdez smiles at Chance Nevada. Chance Nevada says, "I have a few specific concerns about our community" Chance Nevada says, "Forgive me for being blunt" Chance Nevada says, "I find the invasive nature of some of the behavior of the gm,s much more troublesome than any use of vulgarity" Chance Nevada says, "GM's do listen to our whispering" Chance Nevada says, "GM's do attach themselves unseen to people" Chance Nevada says, "GM's do filter for their own names in any packet" Chance Nevada says, "I ask you this....." Chance Nevada asks, "WHo is watching the watchers?" Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Qui custodiet ipsos custodes?" Chance Nevada nods to Nicholas Lancaster. Chance Nevada says, "And I am sorry to have to ask this to you Nich" Chance Nevada says, "You indeed have always done a wonderful job" Nicholas Lancaster says, "First, you have some interesting opinions of what we can and cannot do. I've already touched upon whispers." Chance Nevada says, "Not really" Chance Nevada asks, "Are you telling me whispers are not heard by GMs?" Chance Nevada says, "I have had my conversations cut into, with no vulgarity used whatsoever" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Again, if you give us cause to believe - through prior or current behavior - that you are violating policy, then, yes, you can be monitored." Nicholas Lancaster says, "As to the following and stalking part ..." Chance Nevada asks, "DId I use the word stalking?" Chance Nevada scratches his head, looking a bit confused. Nicholas Lancaster asks, "No, you didn't. Am I misunderstanding you?" Chance Nevada says, "No" Nicholas Lancaster says, "If you believe that a GameMaster has acted inappropriately, please send a log or as much information about the incident as you can, to Siri Macallan at mo-siri@play.net." Chance Nevada says, "Wait right there" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Without that, there can be no resolution or correction." Chance Nevada says, "THe Gms are unseen" Chance Nevada says, "I have no idea if every word I say is not being logged to a gms text file" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Chance, the simple mathematics would make it impossible. You know how much text scrolls by in any given game session." Nicholas Lancaster says, "We usually have 30 plus players during peak hours on a given night, more during events like the RenFaire." Chance Nevada asks, "You are saying that it is impossible to filter the packets in and out of the server?" Chance Nevada says, "It may be difficult but certainly possible if someone puts their mind to it" Chance Nevada says, "And you are intelligent , computer literate folks" Nicholas Lancaster says, "It is not impossible, but simply impractical to do so. Imagine 30 files of several hours in length. I certainly don't have the time nor the inclination to do so." Chance Nevada says, "Agreed" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Incidentally, for those of you using the Wizard FE, string highlights and squelches give you the same ability." Gabriella Valdez nods to Nicholas Lancaster. Chance Nevada says, "But if a bad seed comes along they have the capability to log my conversations" Nicholas Lancaster says, "And if you believe that is the case, then you should take it to Siri Macallan." Chance Nevada says, "I think Siri is biased in her opinion of you folks" Chance Nevada says, "Not that in many cases it is not warranted" Chance Nevada says, "One other thing" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Regardless, Siri is contractually obligated to follow through on any formal complaint she receives." Chance Nevada nods to Nicholas Lancaster. Chance Nevada says, "You kind of raised this more to me although it is often in the back of my head" Chance Nevada says, "Most if not all of the gms are existing players" Chance Nevada says, "How do you monitor people on the one hand then involve yourself in RP with them on the other" Chance Nevada says, "Kind of makes me feel like taking a shower" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Chance, GameMasters are held responsible to their contracts regardless of their being in their official roles, or enjoying the game as a player." Nicholas Lancaster says, "We do not divulge specifics about warnings, disciplinary actions, or personal information." Chance Nevada says, "But I want to know how it is possible to have those dual roles and remain unbiased" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Additionally, one can roleplay without bringing any of that to the table." Chance Nevada says, "Perhaps, but then again perhaps not" Chance Nevada says, "It all goes back to my original point, who monitors the actions of the gms" Nicholas Lancaster says, "You're welcome to have your doubts. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of taking performance issues to the Product Manager." Chance Nevada says, "One last time, please tell me what is done to monitor the people who are monitoring me" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I'm sorry if you feel I'm being evasive. We are LEGALLY obligated to perform our duties as specifed in a BINDING contract." Nicholas Lancaster says, "The Product Manager is your front line for all performance issues you may have with a GameMaster or Host in their employ." Chance Nevada says, "I understand that, but right now you have the opportunity to ease my conscience and that of others at this forum" Aviva Jacobsen says, "What Nick is trying to say is that they do things that they do what they're supposed to do, because if they don't they will be prosecuted." Aviva Jacobsen smiles. Chance Nevada asks, "Are you telling me that gms have free reign to do as they will and only their word to honor their contract?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I haven't said that at all, Chance." Nicholas Lancaster says, "We are held responsible to a contract, a legally-binding contract, and the Product Manager is your contact for any performance issues. That gives you a considerable impact on what goes on." Chance Nevada sighs. Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Any further questions?" Chance Nevada asks, "You watch me and my actions unseen, and I am supposed to know what you are doing with that info and report that to the project manager?" Chance Nevada says, "Seems kind of a paradox" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Chance, do you have a specific problem with any GameMaster? Then you need to bring it to Siri. She has the authority to evaluate the information and take appropriate action." Gabriella Valdez nods. Chance Nevada says, "Sorry to take up so much of your time" Chance Nevada shrugs. Having finished addressing the assembly Chance Nevada sits back down. Katt Blade stands up to address the assembly. Katt Blade takes a deep breath of air. Gabriella Valdez smiles at Katt Blade. Katt Blade says, "Parts of your first speech seemed like more of a lecture than a forum.. and while you seem nice enough.. not all GMs are nice. I don't mean to insult any of them specifically.. but its very true.. not that all of the players are nice.. and I wrote the rest of this out earlier cause I wanted to make sense.. heh.. so I'll just go on to that so I don't repeat myself too much.." Katt Blade says, "This may not be completely on the topic of privacy and policy.. but I think this could fall under the respect issue you mentioned earlier.." Katt Blade says, "In a couple of logs I've read.. Siri has been really confused as to why people are upset.. and I'm sure that for a lot of people the privacy issue is a main thing.." Katt Blade says, "And it's something I'd like to be clear on too.. but my main problem isn't with that.. it's with GMs and how they act towards players.." Katt Blade says, "I know every player isn't exactly the sweetest person in the world.. and we can be rude.. but overall I think we understand GMs put a lot of work into the game.. and from what I've seen I think we're fairly appreciative.." Katt Blade says, "In the policy it says "GameMasters are forbidden to show any type of favoritism towards one player or another".." Katt Blade says, "And I don't mean to say that GMs can't even be nice without playing favorites.. but I don't think of GMs as nice people anymore.. in general.. they're pretty rude to me.. I don't know about other people.. so I don't know if its favortism.. and I also don't mean all GMs when i say that.." Katt Blade says, "But its been a really long time since a GM has been nice when I assisted.. maybe I only remember the meaner ones.. but theres no reason not to be nice.. they can appreciate that we pay a lot for this game just like we appreciate the work they put into it.." Katt Blade says, "I was accused of giving mystery clues.. and I knew I didn't so I asked for a log of it.. and I was poofed and she started reciting a log.. and soon she realized she was accusing the wrong person .. I would've been perfectly happy if I'd gotten a small apology.. cause it was insulting.. she accused me of something I didn't do.." Katt Blade says, "But, no.. I didn't get an apology.. I got a lecture about how much work she'd put into it.. and how important it was to not give clues.. which I already knew.. and after she sent me back.. the person who had actually given the clue in the mystery wasn't approached at all." Katt Blade says, "For my nice little connection to the subject of policy.. "The goal of these policies is to provide an enjoyable experience for the majority of the users.".. and rude GMs aren't going to reach that goal.. and I could give more examples.. but that would take a lot of time and it took quite a while for me to get even this much to make sense." Katt Blade says, "GMs may have their own policy they need to follow that players aren't aware of.. I think players need to be more clear on what their powers are.. and who they can send complaints to if they feel someone on staff is out of line.." Katt Blade says, "And you gave Siri's address so I guess that is more clear.. and hopefully we'll use that more" Gabriella Valdez nods to Katt Blade. Katt Blade says, "And I think thats all I had to say" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Thank you, Katt." Having finished addressing the assembly Katt Blade sits back down. Adia Dehesa stands up to address the assembly. Adia Dehesa says, "I believe that my point was already covered." Adia Dehesa smiles. Gabriella Valdez nods to Adia Dehesa. Gabriella Valdez smiles at Adia Dehesa. Having finished addressing the assembly Adia Dehesa sits back down. Angela Bond stands up to address the assembly. Angela Bond says, "Hello.. I totally agree with all these people who have spoken already" Nicholas Lancaster says, "There's no doubt that any of us can have an off day. If you think we're being a little over the top, you can also - quietly - point it out to us. I have pulled a few swift ones, and have apologized to the people involved." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Oh, gosh, there goes my aura of infallibility." Angela Bond says, "I myself have been a victim of unfair and unfortunate timing.." Angela Bond says, "I'm not pleased to admit this but most of you know that I was one of the persons in the Bungalow that one night.. but our privacy had been totally invaded" Angela Bond says, "Unannounced and not even assisted, either a gamehost or assistant gamemaster - I don't remember who - stepped out of the shadows and then after a minute went back in." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Angela, may I step in for a second?" Angela Bond nods. Nicholas Lancaster says, "We're aware of that, and we'll be speaking with the Host in question." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Go on." Angela Bond says, "Thankful for that. But I have spoken with people who have also had their privacy completely invaded." Angela Bond says, "I have respect for all GameHosts, Masters and AGMs but when times like these come up I lose it.." Angela Bond asks, "I mean, why bother paying when we can't have a private conversation?" Angela Bond asks, "When we know that someone could be watching us, listening to us?" Angela Bond asks, "That isn't the point of being here. Are we here to hunt, have friends and be spied on?" Angela Bond says, "Once, a friend and a few others were with a merchant and the merchant accidently said something and they knew it was to set something so the merchant can listen to the whispers back and forth of the people in the room." Angela Bond says, "And I know that some of us in here may be ashamed of past experiences or other such things we have done thinking it was private when it may have been logged." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Angela, as I've stated, we do not monitor a situation unless there is concern as to policy being violated. As for your private conversations, you'll have to judge for yourself whether or not language or content goes beyond the boundaries of a 'private conversation'." Angela Bond says, "But I know some of us are wondering why we are spied on at all? I know that it may be for safety reasons so we wouldn't hurt another player, but constantly? Also, we have been told face to face with GMs that the hotel is completely private. And then we (the group in the bungalow) were told we have NO privacy whatsoever not even in the hotels." Nicholas Lancaster says, "It is also not our intention to go through every warning you or your friends may have received. If, after being warned, you feel you have been treated unfairly, please bring that information to Siri." Angela Bond says, "That's all I have to say. Thanks." Angela Bond sits down. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Given the constraints of policy, you are not assured of ABSOLUTE privacy. Privacy is relative to the TAC." Having finished addressing the assembly Angela Bond sits back down. Katherine LoboNegro stands up to address the assembly. Katherine LoboNegro says, "Thank you" Katherine LoboNegro nods to Nicholas Lancaster. Katherine LoboNegro says, "I just wanted to tell everyone that it's sorta silly to think that we are not monitored." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Katherine." Katherine LoboNegro smiles at Nicholas Lancaster. Katherine LoboNegro says, "Hello" Katherine LoboNegro says, "The GM's and AGM's have a job to perform and whether we like it or not they have to conform to certain rules." Katherine LoboNegro says, "We don't have to like it." Katherine LoboNegro says, "I personally don't care if I'm observed the whole time I'm here." Katherine LoboNegro says, "I do care if that's abused." Katherine LoboNegro says, "And I do believe that certain times it has been abused by us all." Katherine LoboNegro says, "'GM"s, AGM"s and players alike." Katherine LoboNegro says, "But we are all human and make mistakes." Katherine LoboNegro asks, "Let's try to remember that. Shall we?" (Katherine LoboNegro sits back down.) Gabriella Valdez smiles at Katherine LoboNegro. Having finished addressing the assembly Katherine LoboNegro sits back down. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Thank you." Chris Cobain stands up to address the assembly. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Chris." Chris Cobain says, "Hi." Chris Cobain says, "My question was already answered, but thanks." Nicholas Lancaster nods. Gabriella Valdez smiles at Chris Cobain. Having finished addressing the assembly Chris Cobain sits back down. Charles Faulkner stands up to address the assembly. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Charles." Charles Faulkner says, "Hello Nicholas." Charles Faulkner asks, "So, let's say that some issues raised in this forum are adressed by the GM's, such as whisper monitoring. Since this forum in part deals with security and the GM's special priviliges, will we be notified of changes, or will we be kept in the dark as to GM policy?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "If significant changes to the Terms and Conditions are made, players will be notified - most likely on the in-game banner, as well as the splash page on the web or their chosen service." Charles Faulkner asks, "I have a second question. I'm not sure what you may have told the assembly here before I came in, but I was wondering whether those here who questioned or criticized your rights as GM's will be tagged for surveillance as troublemakers later. I certainly hope this is not the case, but just to be sure, can you assure me that these fine people will not have their conversations monitored, their actions logged, and their movements followed simply because of having their doubts about GM privilige?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I can freely and honestly give you that assurance. We monitor for violations of policy only." Charles Faulkner nods. Charles Faulkner says, "Thank you for your time, Nicholas." Nicholas Lancaster says, "If you believe this is not the case in any instance, please communicate this to Siri Macallan." Having finished addressing the assembly Charles Faulkner sits back down. Summer Matthews stands up to address the assembly. Summer Matthews smiles. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Summer." Summer Matthews says, "Hello Nicholas" Gabriella Valdez smiles at Summer Matthews. Summer Matthews says, "I have several points I'd like to touch upon" Summer Matthews smiles at Gabriella Valdez. Summer Matthews says, "I will try not to take up much of everyone's time. but I just got in from work and hadn't had time to make macros yet, so I'm typing from a piece of paper" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I'm doing this live." Summer Matthews asks, "First of all, not to be disrespectful, but is the standard answer to all questions going to be ask Siri?" Summer Matthews says, "Because if everything should be asked of Siri, then I have to wonder why she isn't here" Summer Matthews says, "and I'm sure others are wondering the same" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Siri, as the Product Manager, is the front line for any formal or serious charges regarding a GameMaster's performance." Summer Matthews says, "Great, I'm glad you said that" Nicholas Lancaster says, "So, to that extent, yes - if you have concerns about such issues, that is the answer." Summer Matthews says, "Because I had a situation where something that was going on between myself and another player was revealed to that players online mate" Summer Matthews says, "and I openly accused a specific GM of doing that" Summer Matthews says, "only, I accused in a hotel room" Nicholas Lancaster says, "As with many of us, we have work and real lives to integrate into our time here. Siri is not here because she can't be here." Summer Matthews says, "To two of my friends" Summer Matthews says, "the next day, that GM pulled me into the shadows and wanted to know why I was telling people that she was spilling my business" Summer Matthews says, "I informed her that both the person told and the person involved with me said it came from her" Summer Matthews says, "and she denied it" Summer Matthews shrugs. Summer Matthews says, "Fine" Summer Matthews says, "I told her although I didn't believe her, I didn't expect it to happen again" Summer Matthews says, "On the night we were in the bungalow" Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Summer, may I interrupt?" Summer Matthews says, "I revealed an incident that happened between myself and that same player" Summer Matthews says, "sure" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Before you start an account of what happened the night of your warning, you might want to consider the privacy issue for yourself, as well as the staff involved." Summer Matthews says, "Well, I'm not naming any names" Summer Matthews says, "so no one is being harmed" Summer Matthews says, "the guilty party knows who they are" Nicholas Lancaster says, "There will be some points I cannot address or answer because we do not discuss other player's situations in public." Summer Matthews says, "and the people that were in the room know what I'm talking about" Summer Matthews says, "Now if I may finish" Nicholas Lancaster nods. Summer Matthews says, "No more than 15 minutes after I revealed the incident during truth or dare..." Summer Matthews says, "the guy began IMing me" Summer Matthews says, "saying that the same GM revealed the info yet again" Summer Matthews says, "now.." Summer Matthews says, "not to point fingers" Summer Matthews says, "but it becomes very annoying when we have a situation like this and we bring it up, and it is downplayed, like the GMs can do no wrong" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Excuse me, but I do believe I asked you not to discuss specifics, as I cannot address these issues in public without breaking confidence with you and the others involved." Summer Matthews says, "I'm not trying to say that all GMs behave in this matter" Summer Matthews says, "I'm not asking you to discuss that" Summer Matthews says, "if you would allow me to finish" Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Unless it is your intention to have one or more of the parties publicly humiliated?" Summer Matthews says, "I can make my point" Summer Matthews says, "My point is this" Summer Matthews says, "When this kind of thing happens, and it has not just happened to me..." Summer Matthews says, "and it is complained about, all we ever get is a lot of double talk and such" Summer Matthews says, "and I find that kind of disheartening" Summer Matthews says, "I understand you all want to run an honest game" Summer Matthews says, "Part of being honest is being able to admit when you have made a mistake" Summer Matthews says, "I know I have made mistakes" Summer Matthews says, "and I own up to them" Summer Matthews says, "but I wish we could feel like when we address issues like these, we are going to receive a fair listening ear" Summer Matthews says, "Not a lot of GMs don't have time for this or that" Summer Matthews says, "that is all we are asking" Summer Matthews sighs. Nicholas Lancaster says, "First, you mention 'doubletalk'. " Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Do you have any reason to believe that the answers I am giving at this forum are anything less than honest?" Summer Matthews says, "I feel like we aren't getting any answers here" Summer Matthews says, "take a poll" Summer Matthews says, "a lot of people in the room agree" Summer Matthews says, "what we are getting is ask Siri this" Nicholas Lancaster says, "You are certainly entitled to your opinion." Summer Matthews says, "I feel like this forum is important for *all* of us" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I would think carefully before presuming to speak for everyone in the room." Summer Matthews says, "and I think that if it was important to Siri, she could have scheduled it on a night when she could be here. I understand she's busy, but really" Summer Matthews puts her vase in her Coache bag. Nicholas Lancaster says, "The incidents leading to this forum happened long after Siri had made other committments for this evening." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Myself and other GameMasters offered to host the forum so that it would be presented in a timely manner." Nicholas Lancaster says, "We wouldn't want you to feel like you were being shined on." Gabriella Valdez nods to Nicholas Lancaster. Summer Matthews smiles. Summer Matthews says, "Okay" Summer Matthews says, "Next point" Summer Matthews asks, "What is the purpose of the hotel?" Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Did you have something specific in mind?" Summer Matthews says, "yeah" Summer Matthews says, "The sweetheart bungalow" Summer Matthews asks, "what is that for?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I'm not certain I understand what you're asking." Summer Matthews says, "Alright" Summer Matthews says, "We were told on Sunday that the hotel was made for intimate conversations between loved ones" Summer Matthews says, "I'm just wondering if a mirror on the ceiling is necessary for that" Summer Matthews says, "and that vibrating bed thingie" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Thank you." Nicholas Lancaster says, "In regards to the mirror, nothing in the description is vulgar, nor does it specifically reference consensual activities." Summer Matthews raises an eyebrow. Summer Matthews says, "um..." Nicholas Lancaster says, "It simply says it provides an excellent view of the bed below. As the entire Hideaway Hotel is a bit of tongue-in-cheek Americana, there is nothing inconsistent about it being there." Summer Matthews asks, "You don't think so?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I helped build it." Summer Matthews says, "The holiday Inn doesn't have mirrors on the ceiling" Summer Matthews says, "and neither does Motel sic" Summer Matthews says, "six" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I did say, "tongue-in-cheek Americana"." Summer Matthews says, "and it specifically says it offers a splendid view of all activity below" Summer Matthews asks, "and what about the shower built for two?" Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Is there something wrong with it?" Summer Matthews asks, "Well what is it for?" Summer Matthews asks, "can you just answer that?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "A shower? For showering." Summer Matthews says, "Okay Nick" Nicholas Lancaster says, "As with the mirror, you seem to be assuming something that isn't there." Summer Matthews says, "it's obvious this is not going to go anywhere" Summer Matthews says, "I'll sit down so you can not answer everyone else's questions" Summer Matthews sits down. Nicholas Lancaster says, "I can't do anything about whether or not you are personally satisfied with my answers." Having finished addressing the assembly Summer Matthews sits back down. Scott Maire stands up to address the assembly. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Scott." Scott Maire exclaims, "hello nick!" Gabriella Valdez smiles at Scott Maire. Gabriella Valdez grins. Scott Maire says, "I had a friend name Zachary Anderson. Now you GM's might have heard of him. " Scott Maire says, "Well he had a problem. Everthing shut down on him and he typed things and he wasn't getting a response back. So he decided to fool around and started typing random things, over and over and over." Scott Maire says, "Now these random things were valgar words. So he was celled and was assigned to peel severel potatoes.....I mean several." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Scott, may I interrupt?" Scott Maire says, "Now, he was assigned to this for a mere mistake." Scott Maire says, "Sure." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Before you continue, please consider that you have violated Zachary's privacy by citing his actions in public." Scott Maire says, "he gave me permission to do this...i just called him with the telephone." Nicholas Lancaster says, "I would prefer not to discuss specifics about another player's disciplinary status in public." Scott Maire says, "Now please let me continue." Scott Maire says, "Now, he was assigned to this for a mere mistake." Nicholas Lancaster says, "You have permission. I do not, and cannot fully address the issues involved." Scott Maire says, "So then he deleted Zacary and then made a caracter named William Pontech." Scott Maire says, "He came in as this carachter and a few minutes later, he was confronted by a GM. the CM again celled him and said, "William, you cannot be released until Zachary is done peeling his potatoes." Scott Maire says, "Oh and another thin is...a guard asks you how many poatoas you have left and If you respond..." Scott Maire says, "he gives you more. Other than that, william cannot get to Zach becuase zach was deleted.. cna you please free william for this mere mistake. Or if that cannot be done......" Scott Maire says, "Just give poor william at least a limited amout of potatoes to be peeled....please. Do it. he will never use vualrgaity again...Please do this...Free William..." Scott Maire says, "My main point is that the GM's don't understand...they don't listen to what william has to say for his crime or just the citizens of morada in general. " Scott Maire says, "I think there should be like a trail fot crimes in Morada." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Scott, Zachary can contact Siri, or - if he prefers - myself, to address the situation." Scott Maire says, "I really do." Scott Maire says, "Oh my god." Scott Maire says, "this is ridiculous." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Essentially, even with connection problems - and I apologize for the OOC here - there is no excuse to thrash the line with vulgarity." Scott Maire exclaims, "forget it...you are no help!" Scott Maire sits down. Nicholas Lancaster says, "I did clearly state that I cannot fully address Zachary's situation in public. " Having finished addressing the assembly Scott Maire sits back down. Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Or would you have me violate his confidence in order to prove a point?" Andrew Wigen stands up to address the assembly. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Andrew." Andrew Wigen says, "Hi i just have one question here " Gabriella Valdez waves to Andrew Wigen. Andrew Wigen asks, "I'm not implying anything here, but what if someone had a problem concerning Siri? who should that person contact?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Surprisingly, you would take it to Siri. She is contractually obligated to investigate all matters of that nature." Andrew Wigen nods. Andrew Wigen says, "i know i said one, but something else just popped into my head" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Go ahead, we're not charging for word count." Gabriella Valdez snaps her fingers. Andrew Wigen asks, "Will you be availible for consultation about private matters after this forum? or should we just send an email to you/Siri?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I'd be seriously in debt if we were." Andrew Wigen chuckles. Nicholas Lancaster says, "I can certainly make myself available at a mutually convenient time, or you can send mail to me at mo-nicholas@play.net" Andrew Wigen says, "ok, thanks" Andrew Wigen sits down. Having finished addressing the assembly Andrew Wigen sits back down. Morgan Whitney stands up to address the assembly. Morgan Whitney smiles. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Morgan." Gabriella Valdez smiles at Morgan Whitney. Morgan Whitney says, " Howdy." Morgan Whitney says, " I just first wanted to start off with agreeing with Summer." Morgan Whitney says, " I've been disapointed with the lack of answers." Morgan Whitney says, " But I just wanted to ask you something. And for all the Gms present." Morgan Whitney asks, " How do you think player-Gms relations are?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Apparently, they are strained in some regards." Morgan Whitney asks, " Do you honestly believe that evereything is hunky dory around here?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Not at all. I wouldn't be here if it were." Morgan Whitney asks, " Then let me ask something else...Why does it apper to be that this matter is trying to be swept under the carpet?" Gabriella Valdez nods to Nicholas Lancaster. Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Do you feel that's what I'm here for?" Morgan Whitney says, " With the answers we've been given...Yes." Nicholas Lancaster says, "I don't think recounting past incidents or trying to hash out currently unresolved ones serves anything." Morgan Whitney says, " Honestly, I don't care if you can see my every movement." Morgan Whitney shrugs. Nicholas Lancaster says, "If you have some constructive criticims to offer, please do so." Morgan Whitney says, " But on several occasions I've had things that happen repeated by people who weren't involved, but yet had positons as hosts or Gms.." Morgan Whitney says, " And I'm not alone." Nicholas Lancaster says, "I cannot speak to incidents that I did not witness." Morgan Whitney says, " Well I just hope that this stops...If you need some drama in your lives there are some wonderful soap operas I can point out." Morgan Whitney shrugs. Nicholas Lancaster says, "I am curious, however, as to why any unattributed information is continuously being cited as coming from a GameMaster or Host." Morgan Whitney says, " This whole forum is very...dissapointing." Morgan Whitney says, " Everything that had been said could of been put in a banner." Morgan Whitney says, " Because thats where it was repeated from." Nicholas Lancaster says, "I'm not aware of my presentation being bannered anywhere." Morgan Whitney says, " I know power gets to some people.." Morgan Whitney shrugs. Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Gosh, have you been hacking into my computer?" Nicholas Lancaster winks at Morgan Whitney. Morgan Whitney says, " I'm just saying it might all we've been." Morgan Whitney says, " I also think GMs should try to do more "community work"" Morgan Whitney says, " Participate with the players." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Such as?" Gabriella Valdez seems curious. Morgan Whitney says, " What happened to the activites the GM use to do? Such as games and etc." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "I'm confused. I've heard objections to GM's abusing information garnered as players, and now you want them to participate ...more?" Morgan Whitney says, " I don't want them participating in my hotel room. " Morgan Whitney says, " I wouldn't them participiting in the pub." Morgan Whitney says, " mind them." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "So they can only participate in areas you deem appropriate?" Morgan Whitney says, " I didn't say that." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "I'm sorry, did I misunderstand you?" Morgan Whitney nods to Nicole Walsh. Morgan Whitney says, " It appears so." Morgan Whitney says, " I don't think gossiping is what I had mean in participating." Morgan Whitney asks, " Why not offer classes around the island in certain feilds?" Morgan Whitney asks, " Tour groups around the island?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "It seems to me you have concerns as to being able to trust GameMasters in one role, yet you invite them to participate further - where they will unquestionably be within earshot of matters discussed by players in public." Morgan Whitney says, " Historcal meetings about the island." Morgan Whitney says, " Things like that." Gabriella Valdez says, "Actually do have tours for new players." Gabriella Valdez smiles at Morgan Whitney. Aviva Jacobsen nods to Gabriella Valdez. Morgan Whitney says, " I'd like to see more then the port." Morgan Whitney smiles. Morgan Whitney shrugs. Morgan Whitney shrugs. Morgan Whitney says, " Thats about it." Nicholas Lancaster says, "That's a good suggestion, Morgan. I'd be more than willing to 'teach' a class in a specific area, though there is some question as to how a real-life subject will apply to the game." Morgan Whitney says, " Knowledge is power." Morgan Whitney shrugs. Morgan Whitney says, " It never hurts to learn a new trick." Nicholas Lancaster says, "I constantly am, trust me." Nicholas Lancaster smiles. Morgan Whitney says, " Raise a skill that it might apply to it." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "So you would recommend a live forum, and participants gain notoriety or skill increases for being there?" Morgan Whitney says, " I also pointed out on the list that there might be some way to evualte GMs performance from time to time." Morgan Whitney nods to Nicholas Lancaster. Nicholas Lancaster says, "While it is important, interaction with players is not the sole criteria used to judge a GameMaster's ability to perform their assigned duties." Morgan Whitney says, " Yes, but it is important. And thats what we deal with it." Nicholas Lancaster says, "We do welcome both positive and negative comments through feedback, and - again - I cannot emphasize enough the importance of taking up issues with the Product Manager if you feel it is warranted." Morgan Whitney asks, " And if your interaction with the players isn't very good..Why on earth should they be a GM?" Morgan Whitney says, " Regardless how well they can constructed a building." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "So you would be willing to sacrifice the creative/programming side - which drives changes to the game - for improved - as you see it - customer service?" Morgan Whitney nods to Nicole Walsh. Morgan Whitney says, " This is a business, Nicholas." Morgan Whitney asks, " But why on earth should one be given up for the other?" Morgan Whitney says, " I work in a video store.." Morgan Whitney asks, " Should I be rude to the customers but tell them...Hey were going to get better movies??" Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Did you not question a GameMaster's status if they are unable to conduct customer service?" Morgan Whitney asks, " So deal with it?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Not at all. I'm just pointing out there are aspects beyond front-line customer service." Nicholas Lancaster says, "We all do the best that we can." Morgan Whitney says, " One shouldn't be given up for the other." Morgan Whitney says, " Your job is dealing with customer service." Morgan Whitney says, " And we are customers." Morgan Whitney says, " And the customer service around here lately...has been REALLY bad." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Incidentally, I also have considerable experience in customer service. I was a theater manager for over 15 years, and also worked for AOL as a direct contact with information providers." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "What, in your estimation, is the single most important shortcoming in that regard?" Morgan Whitney asks, " And do you think if you treated the people you worked in your theater the way some GMs treat the players here you'd have a job?" Morgan Whitney says, " Customer service. Lack of respect on ALL parts. " Nicholas Lancaster says, "Morgan, I've HAD to treat some people that way. I even got threatened with physical violence. That doesn't mean I would change what I did then one bit." Nicholas Lancaster says, "But that's not directly related to Modus." Nicholas Lancaster says, "We'll certainly work on respect - and I did comment on that at the beginning of the evening." Morgan Whitney asks, " Do you think the customer service is good here, Nick?" Morgan Whitney asks, " Or should I write to Siri to find out how you feel?" Morgan Whitney smiles. Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Do you think that would help?" Morgan Whitney shrugs. Nicholas Lancaster says, "I get so confused sometimes." Morgan Whitney says, " I'm just asking for your opinion." Morgan Whitney asks, " How do you thinks are around here?" Morgan Whitney says, " think things are. Sorry." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Or would you like to revise that comment in light of your words about respect?" Morgan Whitney says, " I'm just asking for your opinion." Nicholas Lancaster says, "I don't believe I've ever been asked for an honest opinion in quite that manner." Morgan Whitney asks, " How do you think things are around here?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "There is, undoubtedly, always room for improvement. Just as, in any situation, there will be people who feel it can be handled better." Morgan Whitney asks, " But are things good?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Are they? I'm asking you, the customer." Morgan Whitney says, " To me. No." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "And do you have any other suggestion on how to improve this?" Morgan Whitney says, " Perhaps the GMs should have to go to some sort of Custmer Service seminar. " Morgan Whitney shrugs. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Perhaps. I think we could discuss this for some time without feeling either side has been adequately presented." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Do you have any further questions?" Morgan Whitney nods. Morgan Whitney says, " Nothing more." Morgan Whitney sits down. Having finished addressing the assembly Morgan Whitney sits back down. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Thank you, Morgan." Wegarius Hodge stands up to address the assembly. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Wegarius." Gabriella Valdez smiles web Gabriella Valdez grumbles about something. Valentine Lennox smiles at Wegarius Hodge. Wegarius Hodge says, "I just have a quick question." Gabriella Valdez smiles at Wegarius Hodge. Wegarius Hodge asks, "Nicholas, is there anything you can say that the GMs will try to do to improve relations with the players?" Wegarius Hodge asks, "Any commitments you think you should make?" Wegarius Hodge says, "I don't know if you can speak for everyone, but I'd like to hear your comments." Wegarius Hodge says, "By everyone, I mean all the GMs." Nicholas Lancaster says, "I can only speak for myself, though I don't think any of my colleagues will dispute the matter. " Wegarius Hodge smiles a little to Nicholas. Wegarius Hodge says, "Fair enough." Nicholas Lancaster says, "I do my level best to provide superior customer service." Nicholas Lancaster says, "If that's not good enough, I can only apologize." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Do you have any other questions, or a suggestion as to a goal?" Wegarius Hodge says, "Well, I have one other comment." Wegarius Hodge says, "We as players have to realize we are not going to be able to do absolutely anything we want." Wegarius Hodge says, "That would be disruptive to other players. And that would be bad business." Wegarius Hodge says, "Thank you for the chance to speak." Nicholas Lancaster nods. Gabriella Valdez smiles. Having finished addressing the assembly Wegarius Hodge sits back down. Jade Rose stands up to address the assembly. Jade Rose says, "I'm sorry. A lot of people are going to hate me for what I have to say, but I HAVE to say it." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Jade. Go ahead." Jade Rose says, "The GMs keep letting people get away with stuff. I can't mention incidences because it'll be obvious who I'm talking about, but people do things that they shouldn't AND get away with it. I'm sure by now, most of you know who the earlier incident was about. If not, it doesn't matter. I'm not going to go off on a tangent about that again. The bottom line though is that there are people abusing mistakes on the island. Most don't turn themselves in and actually get away with it in the process. I'm trying my hardest not to get in anyone's face, but I always am. Whether it be about the BCC, about the vast majority of hypocrites that often dwell on the island, or even about something so stupid as left-handed fighting. I'm always bound to offend someone, and this is where this speech comes in." Jade Rose says, "When I first came to the island about a year ago, it was recommended to me by someone I know very well on the mainland. I found it cool. Entertaining. It moved to a new location, and I forked out mainland cash for it. Who would care? I wouldn't! I was in heaven. Then the first incident came. A practical joke over the comm. I was a stupid newbie, I admit that. A very friendly GM came in and told me to calm it down. I did. I thought about how wonderful GMs were. I still admire this GM to this day, though I haven't seen her very often on the island anymore." Jade Rose says, "Anyway, my point comes to this. Eventually, I wasn't a newbie so much anymore. I enjoyed hunting, and was quite good at it in Spanish, too. The day came when I was about level 7 or so. Some people might remember this incident. It happened at the kiosk. A young man started TALKING. This was BEFORE all this OOC and IC stuff happened. We hadn't had any forums, discussions, NOTHING about that sort of thing. WE WEREN'T WARNED so when he started talking, a few guys and I attacked him, thinking he was a perp." Jade Rose says, "I peeled potatoes for 3 days before a kind GM let me off the hook. 3 days. Though I was still semi-new. Though we had no clue that NPCs were now considered citizens and we thought it was just a mistake. We peeled potatoes. I know you're all wondering what this has to do with anything. When I told them that I had no clue the GMs still gave me potatoes." Jade Rose asks, "How's that for trust?" Jade Rose says, "Please, read back. I just got asked by someone to slow down." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "I'm following you. Did you want me to respond now, or do you have something more to add?" Jade Rose says, "that's it." Nicholas Lancaster says, "First, it is not our intention to discuss individual cases." Jade Rose nods. Nicholas Lancaster says, "I don't think that will particularly serve any purpose than to irritate those involved." Nicholas Lancaster says, "As the designer of the KP Duty system, I wish to point out that the process is fairly straightforward." Jade Rose says, "Do you understand where I'm coming from, though? It wasn't fair for me and the other 3 people to do that when we had no clue what was happening." Nicholas Lancaster says, "It was intended as an intermediate means of disciplinary action, rather than continue with a string of warnings or moving to the more strict forms, such as lockout." Jade Rose nods. Jade Rose says, "I'm not complaining about that system." Jade Rose says, "I'm complaining about the CAUSE." Jade Rose says, "And the TRUST issue." Nicholas Lancaster says, "At no time in this game has there EVER been cause to assault anyone other than a named/described criminal." Jade Rose says, "It was a young man." Jade Rose says, "I had no clue." Jade Rose says, "I was a new tourist." Jade Rose says, "As was one of the other people involved" Nicholas Lancaster says, "As are most of the unidentified criminals until they are recognized and accused." Jade Rose says, "This one was talking. We thought it was an (OOC) bug." Nicholas Lancaster nods. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Now, I won't get into further detail, as that's not the point of the forum, nor do I wish to air your business in public." Jade Rose asks, "What about that for trust though? What about that? How can I trust others when they don't trust me?" Jade Rose says, "Or others, for that matter." Nicholas Lancaster says, "That's a philosophical dilemma that I can't fully take up here." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Did you have any other questions?" Jade Rose looks over at Nicholas Lancaster and shakes her head. Having finished addressing the assembly Jade Rose sits back down. Ferd Berfel stands up to address the assembly. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Ferd." Ferd Berfel says, "ummm seems i raised my hand a bit prematurely" Ferd Berfel blushes a nice shade of off-pink. Gabriella Valdez grins at Ferd Berfel. Ferd Berfel says, "just needed to pat down a stray cowlick" Ferd Berfel sits down. Nicholas Lancaster grins. Having finished addressing the assembly Ferd Berfel sits back down. Katt Blade stands up to address the assembly. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Katt." Katt Blade says, "Nicholas Lancaster says, "There's no doubt that any of us can have an off day. If you think we're being a little over the top, you can also - quietly - point it out to us. I have pulled a few swift ones, and have apologized to the people involved."" Katt Blade says, "Nicholas Lancaster says, "Oh, gosh, there goes my aura of infallibility."" Katt Blade asks, "Since no one said anything between my comments and what you said there.. I'm assuming that was in reponse to my comments. Am I correct?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I believe that was in reference to the previous speaker." Gabriella Valdez nods. Nicholas Lancaster says, "At any rate, it is a clear fact that I have made mistakes and I have apologized when necessary." Katt Blade says, "The only person I saw was someone that accidentally raised their hands.. but it applies anyway.." Nicholas Lancaster says, "I also recommend that, if you feel we're being a bit over the top, say so." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Was there some confusion over that, or did it cross with what you then asked?" Katt Blade says, "This is not what I meant. When I said I could give more examples, I meant it. I didn't mean to say that I should base my entire opinion of a GM on one indicent. I don't think it was an off day.. if it was an off day she could've apologized. If you'd like I'll put a nice little speech together about everything a GM has ever done that I didn't think was completely fair. " Katt Blade says, "It seems like you were writing off complaints to an off day." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Not at all. I was addressing the previous speaker. If that gave you an incorrect impression that I was shining you on, then I apologize." Nicholas Lancaster says, "But, sometimes, from the inside, we - both players and staff - don't always recognize what's going on as it happens." Katt Blade says, "Nicholas Lancaster says, "I don't think recounting past incidents or trying to hash out currently unresolved ones serves anything."..We've never been given the chance to recount these incidents.. this forum gives us a chance to say the stuff that's been driving us crazy. And we can say it in front of everyone.. so GMs can't ignore it." Nicholas Lancaster says, "As I've told other speakers, you're certainly free to bring those things up, but I doubt anything will be resolved here and now." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Also, I reiterate that I will NOT discuss another player's disciplinary status with other players." Nicholas Lancaster says, "I've just promised you a considerable amount of privacy in that statement." Katt Blade says, "I don't remember anyone asking you to.." Katt Blade says, "Or at least I didnt ask you." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Katt, in order to discuss any past problems at this forum, information will - perhaps inadvertently - be presented to people who are not involved." Nicholas Lancaster says, "That can serve no purpose but to encourage people to choose sides, and take up a judgmental stance." Katt Blade says, "Are you even listening to what I'm saying? I didn't ask you to discuss.. I gave my side of the story as an example for my comments." Nicholas Lancaster says, "I haven't seen anything but citing of my earlier remarks." Katt Blade says, "The information applies to the entire island when it's about something a GM has done wrong. Because it could happen to anyone and they pay for this game." Nicholas Lancaster says, "If you have a specific charge against any GameMaster, then you know what course to follow." Katt Blade says, "Because when I heard it I felt the need to comment. And I didn't have the chance then." Katt Blade says, "I'm not charging anyone. It was an example for my comment.. no charges.. only example.." Katt Blade says, "And I'm pointing out things you've said cause I want to be clear.." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Is that the case, or do you need something else clarified?" Katt Blade says, "Only one more thing.." Katt Blade says, "you're SO right about everything you said about the bungalow. Why would a shower specifically built for two and a mirror that shows activity below imply that the Bungalow was to be used for purposes other than "talking"..?!?!?!? I just don't understand. Summer and many other people on the island are definitely seeing something that is NOT there. Not at all." Katt Blade says, "simply agreeing with you.. because nothing else seems to work" Katt Blade bows to Nicholas Lancaster. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Katt, if that was meant honestly, thank you. If that was a bit of sarcasm meant to suggest I'm being facetious or flat out dishonest, I'm sorry you feel that way." Katt Blade asks, "You in no way see what Summer is saying about the shower for two? And the mirror?" Katt Blade asks, "You don't see how that implies more than talking?" Katt Blade asks, "At all?" Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Do you believe it is possible to RP an intimate moment without vulgarity?" Katt Blade asks, "Answering a question with a question? That wouldnt be a way to avoid answering would it?" Katt Blade says, "I believe it is possible." Nicholas Lancaster says, "If you have a point, feel free to make it instead of implying that I'm not giving you an honest answer." Katt Blade asks, "Ok, I believe you.. just for me.. one more time.. you do not see how the two person shower and bed hints at more than talking?" Nicholas Lancaster asks, "So, if I disappear into a hotel room with another player and emerge an hour later with a mile-wide smile on my face, what happened in the room?" Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Did anything happen?" Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Or am I just smiling?" Katt Blade asks, "How does that apply?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "You seem to be asking why the mirror and the double-shower are in a room designed as a honeymoon suite." Katt Blade asks, "No, it was said earlier that it was for talking only. Now will you answer my question?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hotel rooms are used for other purposes than for what you and Ms. Matthews appear to be implying." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "What is your question?" Katt Blade says, "And they are also used for the purpose we are implying." Katt Blade asks, "You in no way see what Summer is saying about the shower for two? And the mirror?" Katt Blade says, "For the third time." Nicholas Lancaster says, "I'm talking to you, at the moment. I spoke with Summer some time ago, and she did not dispute my answer." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "So, what exactly is your question?" (Katt Blade gets out a piece of paper.. writes no on one half.. and yes in the other.) Katt Blade says, "Circle one." Katt Blade asks, "You in no way see what Summer AND I (better) is saying about the shower for two? And the mirror?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "No, I don't. I can't see something that is not in the text description of the items you are describing." Katt Blade furrows her brow. Katt Blade asks, "So the bungalow is no way intended for sex?" Katt Blade raises an eyebrow. Nicholas Lancaster says, "The question is, 'Can we or can't we have cybersex?'" Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Correct?" Katt Blade says, "Its about the bungalow and how it implies its for sex and youre saying its for talking." Nicholas Lancaster says, "I can't help what you feel it implies. " Katt Blade says, "Oh my god." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Some people might say a secluded beach offers the same implication." Katt Blade says, "What do you think it implies? " Katt Blade asks, "The mirror implies nothing?" Katt Blade asks, "It just happens to reflect stuff happening below?" Katt Blade asks, "Coincidence?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "That's a question you have to answer for yourself." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Roleplaying is as much about how we perceive our world as how we respond to it." Katt Blade asks, "You can't give me an opinion?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I don't see why there is a need to. You seem to be playing a game where I've a dark secret and you're trying to get me to confess." Katt Blade says, "No. But its very very obvious the mirror implies the room is for sex." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Is it?" Katt Blade says, "Yes." Katt Blade glances at Nicholas Lancaster. Katt Blade says, "It is." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Then you've answered your own question." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Is there a problem with that?" Katt Blade says, "Only the denying of it on your part." Katt Blade says, "Which is my main problem.. and it is not for talking." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "How can I deny something which I don't feel is the sole purpose for which the room was designed?" Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Would you prefer that we demolish the hotel and put in a coffee shop with lots of small tables, and strictly discipline any mention of sex?" Katt Blade says, "But you also denied it being a purpose.. I never said it was the sole purpose." Katt Blade asks, "Um, no.. is that what I said?" Katt Blade raises an eyebrow. Katt Blade asks, "Is cybersex allowed in the Bungalow?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hmm." Nicholas Lancaster says, "You're not going to like my answer." Katt Blade says, "If I get one." Nicholas Lancaster says, "That's up to you. We do not arbitrarily monitor private rooms or their occupants unless there are indications that game policies are being broken. Within reason, that means you can have a private discussion, and can engage in consensual activities." Katt Blade applauds. Nicholas Lancaster says, "There will never be any commands that specifically describe or emulate such activities, and - as always - behavior along these lines in a public area, or involving an unwilling partner - is both unacceptable and against policy, and will be handled accordingly." Katt Blade says, "Why wouldnt I like that answer? Ah well.." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Can I further confuse or irritate you this evening, Katt?" Katt Blade says, "Maybe if you try. But I'm done for now." Having finished addressing the assembly Katt Blade sits back down. Nicholas Lancaster smiles. Candi Cane stands up to address the assembly. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Candi." Candi Cane says, "Wow 3 hour wait did me good" Candi Cane grins. Candi Cane curtsies. Candi Cane says, "Hola" Aviva Jacobsen begins chuckling at Candi Cane. Candi Cane says, "I just have a comment. The comment may be as long as something Straker would give, though." Candi Cane glances at Edward Straker. Candi Cane coughs. Candi Cane smiles sweetly. Gabriella Valdez grins at Candi Cane. Valentine Lennox begins chuckling at Candi Cane. Candi Cane says, "I agree with what Kat L. said way back.... That "it's sorta silly to think that we are not monitored." Honestly if you have a reason to not want people to monitor you then you should think about what type of a conversation you're having. " Candi Cane says, "All of my conversations are in no way going to get me warned so I have nothing to fear. If I have something majorly personal that I only want a selected few to hear, I take it back on the ferry." Candi Cane says, "Also, I pay to come here to hunt, chat, enjoy the shops, gamble in the casino, and enjoy people's company in a "setting". If I wanted to cuss or talk about something inappropriate then there are always chat rooms for that. I don't think GMs spend all of their time watching us anyway. " Candi Cane says, "With all of the new areas that have popped up lately it is hardly believable that GMs are watching us 24-7 because they have better things to do. They've made the Jade Dragon, the wedding boutique, opened up a zoo which gives tons of info, opened the jungle, made revolving mysteries, given us a hidden garden, are re-modeling the Port Authority..." (Candi Cane tries to count on her fingers, but it goes over. She can't count higher.) Candi Cane mumbles something unprintable. Aviva Jacobsen begins chuckling at Candi Cane. Candi Cane takes a deep breath of air. Candi Cane says, "Have made the Notoriety system which rewards you for earning a higher status and MUCH more. They DO care about Morada or they wouldn't even be in this business. So I personally like what the GMs do with Morada." Candi Cane smiles. Nicholas Lancaster smiles at Candi Cane. Candi Cane says, "They also help other paying customers not to feel uncomfortable. If I were a GM and had a choice to warn a player that was being obnoxious in public and cussing up a storm or to ignore him/her and let everyone near them feel uncomfortable I'd warn them in a second." Candi Cane says, "About the privacy thing, it may also happen in private. If you were in the hotel near your buds and cussing they may feel uncomfortable about what you are doing. That is why they made policy. Policy is not for a bit of the game or for certain areas, it is for the entire thing, you sign up with simu you agree to that." Candi Cane says, "Just because they don't speak up, doesn't mean they agree with what you're doing" Candi Cane says, "Now this isn't at anyone I'm just making general statements" Candi Cane smiles. Candi Cane says, "I have no reason to jab people. I try to be friendly to everyone" Candi Cane says, "My views, nothing more nothing less" Candi Cane curtsies. Candi Cane says, "Thank you for your time" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Thank you, Candi." Candi Cane says, "Oh and Straker likes the zoo too" Candi Cane grins. Candi Cane whistles a cheerful tune. Having finished addressing the assembly Candi Cane sits back down. Cat Jacobs stands up to address the assembly. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Cat." Cat Jacobs waves. Cat Jacobs says, "Hi." Gabriella Valdez smiles at Cat Jacobs. Cat Jacobs says, "Okay.." Cat Jacobs says, "I don't have any questions, I just have a few comments that alot of people have apparently forgotten or choose to ignore. Yes, Modus is a game where Customer Service is essential, but and I'm using Morgan's association here..if someone were to come into a Movie store for example..and slap someone in the face or offer a black rose to a cashier or even be blatantly vulgar in the bathroom of the video store where children so to say are using the facilities..DON'T you all think that the managment would h" Cat Jacobs says, "or what about the privacy issue in Summer's case..Where she demands privacy for her personal situation..but completely ignores the fact that she is making her conversations or problems with Siri public information. That very well may be a completely different situation, but in my opinion it is sort of touching the same base. Practice what you preach." Cat Jacobs says, "Alot of this could have been resolved in a personal setting, rather than on a public mailing list because that isn't "INFORMING" people, that is recruiting an army. Once again, that is my opinion." Cat Jacobs says, "and on a final note, Some of you are so concerned about being watched and warned, etc.. STOP DOING THINGS TO GET WARNED ABOUT and you won't have any problems. If I was cussing up a storm and got caught I'd whine and complain about being monitored too. In conclusion, stop blaming Staff for catching you doing things you aren't supposed to be doing and stop crying when consequence slaps you in the face." Cat Jacobs exclaims, "read up!" Cat Jacobs says, "Should have put longer pauses." Cat Jacobs gets a distant look on her face as she ponders. Cat Jacobs says, "Oooh.. managment would have a problem with that..I see it got cut off." Cat Jacobs winks at Nina Perrson. Cat Jacobs looks over at Bryan Hit and shakes her head. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Thank you, Cat." Cat Jacobs smiles. Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Did you have any questions?" Cat Jacobs asks, "Nicholas?" Having finished addressing the assembly Cat Jacobs sits back down. Cat Jacobs stands up to address the assembly. Gabriella Valdez grins. Cat Jacobs blinks. Gabriella Valdez just tickled Cat Jacobs. Cat Jacobs says, "I just wanted to thank you.." Cat Jacobs nods to Nicholas Lancaster. Cat Jacobs says, "For listening to everyone..and being so tolerate." Cat Jacobs says, "er..tolerant.." You see Cat Jacobs pet her head. Cat Jacobs sits down. Nicholas Lancaster smiles at Cat Jacobs. Having finished addressing the assembly Cat Jacobs sits back down. Megan Mcfarlen stands up to address the assembly. Megan Mcfarlen says, "Hi" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Megan." Gabriella Valdez smiles at Megan Mcfarlen. Megan Mcfarlen says, "AS about the hotle thing I have a sunnificant other that had been disaplen for makeing love in the hotle. but now your impling that it is ok do just that" Megan Mcfarlen says, "it wasn't with me i'll make that clear" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I've never disciplined anyone for making love in the hotel. I *will* discipline someone who is exceeding the bounds of policy and using the privacy of the hotel to do that." Megan Mcfarlen says, "Oh" Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Did you have any other questions?" Megan Mcfarlen gets a distant look on her face as she ponders. Megan Mcfarlen says, "no" Having finished addressing the assembly Megan Mcfarlen sits back down. Hank Monjin stands up to address the assembly. Hank Monjin says, "hello" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Hank." Gabriella Valdez smiles at Hank Monjin. Hank Monjin says, "ok, i havent heard everything thats been going on but i'd like to make a few things clear" Hank Monjin says, "I think that Morgan was totally right on MOST of wat she said..." Hank Monjin says, "i think that you all should stop trying to get into alot of our personl bussiness, but you do need to be there at the pub and everything..." Hank Monjin says, "And i also think that you should have to WALK like we do sometimes..." Gabriella Valdez grins. Hank Monjin says, "It makes me uncomfortable talking to you all, when you dont have a reason to care...." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hank, to be blunt, I don't care about your or anyone else's 'personal business.'" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I've said as much. I'm concerned with the TAC only." Hank Monjin says, "Nich, you are cool and all, but i think gm's and host's are a bit overrated-and it'd be a lot better or easier to talk to you if you weren't so darn "All powerfull" so to put it." Hank Monjin says, "TAC-i'm sorry nich i've only heard 2 people talk other than my self- i just wanted to make my point or thoughts known." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Thank you, Hank." Hank Monjin nods. Having finished addressing the assembly Hank Monjin sits back down. Sabrina McCloud stands up to address the assembly. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Incidentally, we travel in the shadows as that's the fastest way to reach anyone who assists." Sabrina McCloud says, "Hi. I just wanted to say that more people might trust GMs more if we saw more of them. Perhaps if they might come just to talk or discuss things without having to announce them we might be more trusting." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Sabrina." Nicholas Lancaster says, "It's fairly difficult to 'just talk' given the guidelines that govern us." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Would an occasional open topic forum suit?" Sabrina McCloud says, "That would be a way to achieve the same thing, yes." Nicholas Lancaster nods. Gabriella Valdez smiles at Sabrina McCloud. Sabrina McCloud says, "That's pretty much all I wanted to say." Nicholas Lancaster says, "There is also feedback, and the addresses I've provided." Having finished addressing the assembly Sabrina McCloud sits back down. Chance Nevada stands up to address the assembly. Chance Nevada scratches his head, looking a bit confused. Chance Nevada asks, "Me?" Chance Nevada glances around. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Looks like it." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Howdy, Chance." Chance Nevada says, "Hmmmmm" Gabriella Valdez smiles at Chance Nevada. Chance Nevada says, "I guess mebbe I had my hand up before I got booted" Nicholas Lancaster nods. Nicholas Lancaster says, "No harm, no foul." Chance Nevada says, "I 'm sure I misssed alot" Gabriella Valdez nods. Chance Nevada says, "But if I may" Having finished addressing the assembly Chance Nevada sits back down. Chance Nevada stands up to address the assembly. Chance Nevada chuckles. Gabriella Valdez just tickled Chance Nevada. Chance Nevada says, "I only have one thing, that I feel went unanswered, To put it succinctly........" Chance Nevada giggles. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Go ahead" Chance Nevada says, "Let's say Nick, that you follow me around unseen, log my conversations, and share that with others, hypothetically" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Darn, I've been found out." Chance Nevada chuckles. Gabriella Valdez grins at Nicholas Lancaster. Gabriella Valdez says, "Tsk tsk." Chance Nevada says, "I ain't sayin' I mind yer attentions" Chance Nevada grins nick Chance Nevada says, "Ack" Chance Nevada says, "So anyway" Chance Nevada says, "WHat mechanism is in plact to prevent that, pr to make Siri aware it is happening" Chance Nevada says, "place and or even" Nicholas Lancaster says, "The mechanism is your ability to contact her directly by e-mail. As Product Manager, she also has resources to monitor staff." Chance Nevada says, "You have to let me continue then......" Chance Nevada says, "I can be completely unaware that this abuise is taking place" Chance Nevada says, "It is not possible for me to monitor you" Nicholas Lancaster says, "No, it isn't. However, judging from other comments made this evening, and on the board, there are people who feel that IF we monitor, then we always spill the beans to the nearest set of ears." Chance Nevada says, "As you do not trust many tourists to restrain themselves from TAC violations, perhaps it would be reasonable to suggest that not all management is immune from abuse also" Nicholas Lancaster says, "If someone monitors you and does nothing with the information gathered, there isn't anything happening." Chance Nevada says, "I am sure my point is not lost on you" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Not at all. It's a perfectly valid concern." Chance Nevada says, "There is no guarantee that I would be aware of these hypothetical activities" Chance Nevada says, "Far from it" Nicholas Lancaster says, "The contract under which GameMasters operate is fully and legally binding. If we abuse our rank or privleges, we are held accountable for our actions." Chance Nevada says, "So to say the mechanism to prevent it is my awareness is knid of absurd" Chance Nevada says, "But there apparently is no way to monitor if you abuse your position" Chance Nevada says, "Unless I accidentally find out" Nicholas Lancaster says, "If I am, would that not be clear from information that gets back to you? People have stated we seem to be a fairly loose-lipped bunch." Chance Nevada says, "I have a contract to obey the TAC, yet you monitor me to make sure I do" Chance Nevada asks, "You have a contract to follow your guidlines, so who monitors that?" Chance Nevada says, "You don't take me at my word" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Chance, I've said before that we trust players to behave in a responsible manner and monitor ONLY when given reason to believe that policy is being violated." Chance Nevada says, "Yet you tell me that you are to be taken at your word, not that I doubt it" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Then call me a liar to my face and get it done with." Chance Nevada says, "I am afraid I have to differ" Chance Nevada says, "I have been told directly from a gm that they sniff packets for any mention of their name" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I apologize for being blunt, but I've assured you and several other speakers about the terms under which we monitor players." Chance Nevada says, "That is not a TAC violation" Nicholas Lancaster asks, "So you're claiming the Devil Knows When His Name Is Spoken?" Chance Nevada says, "I was not the only person present when this gm stated such" Chance Nevada says, "I am claiming that this behavior runs contrary to what you just told me" Nicholas Lancaster says, "The only way I can see my name is if I'm in the same room with you and you're talking to me, or if you've given me reason to believe you're violating policy and I am monitoring you." Chance Nevada says, "Mentioning a name is no reason to be monitored" Nicholas Lancaster says, "You claim that we sniff packets - that is, monitor every keystroke - for our names." Chance Nevada says, "Then perhaps the gm who said that was misleading a group of tourists" Chance Nevada says, "You will please not tell me that you can't sniff selected words" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I can. You can, as well, through the string highlights feature on the Wizard FE." Chance Nevada asks, "How did Siri detect the hits of vulgarity in the motel?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "That issue was directly addressed by Siri in her reply to the list." Chance Nevada says, "Forgive me for not having that at my disposal" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I believe it was not solely the vulgarity, but something about destructive behavior involving not only players, but the real people behind them." Nicholas Lancaster says, "That is not the purpose of a hotel room, nor of the game at large." Chance Nevada says, "Well I am not entirely familiar with that incident" Nicholas Lancaster says, "If you want to be mean, vicious, and rude, you can certainly do so elsewhere." Chance Nevada says, "BUt I have certainly seen my share of others" Chance Nevada says, "If you notice I have never been cited for such behavior" Chance Nevada says, "I am asking reasonable questions as a member of this community" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Chance, we've been over this before. You believe you are constantly being monitored, and I am stating clearly that is not so, that it is infeasible in terms of manpower." Nicholas Lancaster says, "That's the only answer you're going to get." Chance Nevada says, "Well I have been told otherwise by the Modus staff" Chance Nevada shrugs. Nicholas Lancaster says, "And I think the rest of the people waiting to speak or ask a question can do without the two of us repeating ourselves every fifty seconds." Chance Nevada says, "Oh well" Chance Nevada says, "Thank you for your kind answers" Having finished addressing the assembly Chance Nevada sits back down. Shiva Malone stands up to address the assembly. Shiva Malone seems nervous. Shiva Malone says, "Hi." Gabriella Valdez smiles at Shiva Malone. Nicholas Lancaster says, "I apologize for being abrupt as the forum goes on, but I do have limits to my patience." Gabriella Valdez says, "Hi Shiva." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Shiva." Aviva Jacobsen pats Nicholas on the back. Shiva Malone says, "I have a brief comment and a few suggestions... I'll try to keep everything short and sweet, as I am getting tired of hearing the same things over and over." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Thank you." Nicholas Lancaster smiles at Shiva Malone. Gabriella Valdez smiles at Shiva Malone. Shiva Malone says, "Privacy is a very important issue, here on Morada, and even on the mainland.... but what is true of people on the mainland reflects upon us here. People are people, and people invade privacy. We're all investigators or sleuths, so that answers that. No matter what, nothing will ever be really private. As far as the GM's and players alike go, for accusations and for punishments, etc., I also believe trials would be a great help. Offering notoriety for serving on jury duty would help to pr" Shiva Malone says, "omote this." Shiva Malone says, "It would make the island far more efficient as far as legality of residents goes." Shiva Malone says, "The subject of GM's participating more popped up earlier... I think that we, as citizens, should be offered more opportunites to earn notoriety. I realize GM's are always working on things to improve the island, but what are you doing to improve the community/society we are in? Things like scavenger hunts would be great for building the community and helping to familiarize everyone with each other and the island. Winners could receive notoriety points for this." Shiva Malone says, "Contests should be held a few times a week, just for incentive to build relationships with those around us all and make Morada a better place." Shiva Malone asks, "If not offending people is such an important thing, don't you think it would be a great benefit to improve citizen relations?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Shiva, there were a number of excellent proposals along those lines mentioned during an earlier forum on non-combat notoriety." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Many of them are being looked at in regards to implementation." Shiva Malone says, "That must have happened in the twenty minutes I wasn't here." Nicholas Lancaster says, "That was some weeks ago." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Ideas are examined carefully for thematic consistency to the genre, and the existing structure of the island." Shiva Malone says, "Okay, so then it happened within the past year I haven't been here... I've just noticed that not too much changed in that respect. Kinda saddened me." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Items requiring programming are tested before release (though the occasional error does make it out the door). Creating new areas is a multi-level process involving not only the descriptive text, but the construction of tangibles and other elements." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Now, in regard to trials." Nicholas Lancaster says, "There are no IC/RP crimes that can currently be portrayed in the game environment, except as game disruption." Nicholas Lancaster says, "To that end, there is nothing that would be served by a trial with players serving on a jury." Shiva Malone says, "Maybe if you had no creativity..." Shiva Malone says, "sorry, didn't mean to blurt that out" Nicholas Lancaster says, "It is not our intention to give attention-seeking troublemakers a stage on which to further irritate people." Shiva Malone nods. Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Does that make sense?" Shiva Malone says, "yeah." Shiva Malone says, "but that wasn't my intention to appear that way." Shiva Malone says, "I just think that there are a lot of things that can be done. Whether they are feasible, I do not know." Shiva Malone sits down. Nicholas Lancaster says, "I understand. The concept of civic duty and a justice system involving players is very appealing - if there were IC/RP transgressions that were part of the structured whole." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Shiva, we're always open to suggestions via the feedback address." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Anything else?" Shiva Malone says, "I suppose I'd be more familiar with that if I'd been here longer." Shiva Malone says, "No, thank you." Having finished addressing the assembly Shiva Malone sits back down. Melanie Alexis stands up to address the assembly. Melanie Alexis says, "Hello" Gabriella Valdez smiles at Melanie Alexis. Melanie Alexis smiles. Melanie Alexis chuckles. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Okay, as it's now going on the better part of four hours, I'd like to ask everyone to be as brief as possible. :D" Melanie Alexis says, "I know I am raking over old coals, but I have waited this long and I at least want my opinion aired and I will sit." Melanie Alexis grins. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Not all of us are on the West Coast." Melanie Alexis says, "Just want to make a few quick comments and observations. I'll try to be brief." Melanie Alexis says, "Understanding that this is a business and you all are doing your jobs to the best of your abilities and you have a staff that is constantly rotating-" Melanie Alexis says, "I just want to stress how important it is, to us, as customers, that we get accurate information when we ask about things like privacy in the hotels and BCC rooms etc. " Melanie Alexis says, "Having said that, I would also like to mention that it is my hope that what is observed by GMs as part of their job requirements is kept within the tightest confidence." Melanie Alexis says, "Many would think it to be quite unprofessional to be "blabbing" GM observations around the game. " Melanie Alexis shrugs. Melanie Alexis says, "Despite the guarantees made here tonight, I can assure you that this "blabbing" has happen more than once. I am sure you were not involved in it, but it has happened." Melanie Alexis grins at Nicholas Lancaster. Melanie Alexis says, "And of course, with the understanding that mistakes happen, I just hope that this might be addressed within the staff. So cases like this might not ever have to arise again." Melanie Alexis smiles. Melanie Alexis says, "I hope that's food for thought, that's all I have to say this evening. Thank you." Nicholas Lancaster says, "What is being said here tonight will be provided to the staff, so they know who to blame later." Nicholas Lancaster grins. Melanie Alexis says, "That's all I ask. Thanks" Melanie Alexis grins. Having finished addressing the assembly Melanie Alexis sits back down. Nicholas Lancaster says, "I'd like to touch on one quick point." Nicholas Lancaster says, "I've heard a lot of "a GM said this," "a GM did this," or "so-and-so heard this from a GM"" Nicholas Lancaster says, "If you have ANY reason to believe a GameMaster has acted inappropriately, please use the most powerful tool available to you: contact the Product Manager." Nicholas Lancaster says, "If you sit on it and let it fester, nothing happens. Nothing gets fixed." Nicholas Lancaster says, "It only sits in the bottom drawer and comes back up months later without any attribution." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Someone pointed out that if you complain, you open yourself up to retalitory actions." Nicholas Lancaster says, "That is incorrect, and I'm sorry that some of you feel that way." Nicholas Lancaster says, "The only anguish I plan to inflict on people is within the bounds of a mystery, or through an in-game challenge such as a maze." Aviva Jacobsen begins chuckling at Nicholas Lancaster. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Within those guidelines ... watch out." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Next speaker, please." Damien Martin stands up to address the assembly. Damien Martin seems nervous. Damien Martin says, "HI Nicholas, Gabriella, I hope to make my conversation short, unlike some people..." Gabriella Valdez pats Damien on the back. Damien Martin glances at Katt Blade. Gabriella Valdez smiles at Damien Martin. Damien Martin says, "butt thats besides the point" Damien Martin says, "oops" Valentine Lennox smiles at Damien Martin. Damien Martin says, "but" Damien Martin blushes a nice shade of off-pink. Gabriella Valdez grins. Damien Martin says, "OK, first what I wanted to discuss was that some of the skills you train in cant even be used! I dont get it! I mean, when I was a newbie(I still am part-newbie) I trained in skill I now know do " Damien Martin says, "nothing! I was wondering if you could do something about it, I mean like, I train in printing and engraving, although I cant, only merchies can, I was wondering If I could get back my training " Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Hmm. Is this where I caution you to watch your language?" Nicholas Lancaster winks. Damien Martin says, "points since nothing is associated with that skill. Sorry for the OOC." Damien Martin glances around. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Yes, we can. We are working on making skills integrate with mysteries more closely, and have already done so in a series of extended events." Damien Martin says, "Hmm" Damien Martin says, "IM not familier with it" Damien Martin says, "I just thought that since I couldnt... " Nicholas Lancaster says, "It was a few months back, a series of murders." Damien Martin says, "and since im paying, I shouldnt of wasted my training points" Damien Martin says, "And IM sorry but thats policy in my eyes" Damien Martin says, "kinda" Damien Martin giggles. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Your training points are not wasted." Damien Martin nods. Damien Martin says, "also" Nicholas Lancaster says, "We try to incorporate skills into events and mysteries, but also don't want to make it impossible for newer players to participate in a meaningful fashion." Damien Martin says, "I think that gms are doing the right thing about privacy because I didnt think that MO should be a place where everyone is doing everybody else, Scuse the language" Nicholas Lancaster nods. Damien Martin says, "Well Thats all I had to say, Thanx man" Having finished addressing the assembly Damien Martin sits back down. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Thank you." Sierra McKlinnen stands up to address the assembly. Sierra McKlinnen smiles. Sierra McKlinnen says, "First I'd like to say thank you for having this forum, for taking time that I'm sure you'd rather spend doing something besides listening to us grouching, whining, moaning and complaining. " Sierra McKlinnen glances around. Sierra McKlinnen says, "I would venture to say *most* of us here appreciate the opportunity to speak our minds and be heard." Sierra McKlinnen says, "There is tension between some players and GMs, but it seems to me that a select few are stirring the pot, and are professing to speak for the rest. " Sierra McKlinnen says, "I personally have had few problems with GMs, and the ones that I have had have been able to be resolved with a few calm, mutually respectful words. " Sierra McKlinnen says, "There are some who appear to place to blame of the tensions solely on the GMs, and saying customer service is bad, but I say it goes both ways. " Sierra McKlinnen says, "I have seen rude GMs." Sierra McKlinnen says, "But I've also seen a player who has been here long enough to know better call for an assist, and be downright rude to the GM who answered, and didn't care that he was embarrassing himself and the GM" Sierra McKlinnen says, "Maybe some should stop pointing fingers at others and look towards themselves. " Sierra McKlinnen asks, "And as far as GM's interacting with us more, am I wrong in saying that most GMs have a character that they play the game with? So is it safe to say we interact with you guys more than we know?" Sierra McKlinnen says, "While GMs are busy developing the island, why can't we take it upon ourselves to make games, and opportunities to bring the community together? It's *our* community too, we can contribute to it instead of just using what's put in front of us. We don't need GMs for that. We have a game now that no one hardly plays that the GMs made for us...tag." Sierra McKlinnen says, "That's all I have to say, thanks for listening to me vent" Gabriella Valdez grins at Sierra McKlinnen. Sierra McKlinnen grins. (Sierra McKlinnen sat still for a long time.) Sierra McKlinnen grins. Having finished addressing the assembly Sierra McKlinnen sits back down. Aviva Jacobsen grins at Sierra McKlinnen. Jimmy Hetfield stands up to address the assembly. Jimmy Hetfield says, " ok, I wasn't going to address this, since it's been overly debated and I personally havent been in a situation regarding the hotel, but something you said earlier made me think otherwise." Jimmy Hetfield asks, " you said that the rooms in the hotel are private right?" Jimmy Hetfield asks, " and players can do wutever they want to do in there...as long as it's within reason?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Jimmy, they are private in relation to the TAC. They are not private so as to provide a method of evading or breaking policy." Jimmy Hetfield asks, " so...how would you know if the person was breaking policy?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Prior or current behavior, as I've already stated." Jimmy Hetfield says, "so just because a person broke policy once..." Jimmy Hetfield asks, " that person's privacy is taken away?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I don't believe I said that." Jimmy Hetfield says, "welll ok.." Jimmy Hetfield says, " you are saying that if a person was misbehaving before" Jimmy Hetfield asks, " and was in the hotel room..you would just check up on him?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "By prior behavior, I mean a pattern of consistent and repeated offenses, several warnings, and an apparent disregard or lack of effort to moderate their behavior." Nicholas Lancaster says, "For example, in order to be vulgar, you must type a command or sentence. In order to do that, you must think and then type that sentence." Nicholas Lancaster says, "In my estimation, there is no reason whatsoever for inadvertent use of vulgarity." Jimmy Hetfield says, " i dont know if i agree with that...instead of getting the report of misconduct...you're going out and hutning down these instances..." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Yet my colleagues and I often issue an informal warning for people to moderate their language." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "If an officer catches you speeding, is it because they had you on record for a previous offense and are specifically watching YOU when YOU DRIVE?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hardly. It's the same here." Jimmy Hetfield says, " no" Jimmy Hetfield says, " the officer is not following you" Nicholas Lancaster says, "And, frankly, I've got better things to do with my time than to spend it constantly handing out soap and mouthwash." Nicholas Lancaster says, "If you are concerned about the manner in which we monitor and moderate vulgarity, then take it upon yourselves to monitor and moderate your own speech." Nicholas Lancaster says, "That's not the same as, "If you weren't watching me, I wouldn't be seen doing anything wrong."" Nicholas Lancaster says, "If you're not doing anything wrong, we don't monitor you." Jimmy Hetfield says, " well concerning the whispers" Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Does that make sense?" Jimmy Hetfield says, " yes it does" Nicholas Lancaster says, "As I've said, it's getting late. There are still people waiting to speak." Gabriella Valdez nods. Nicholas Lancaster says, "I have addressed the whisper issue, the privacy issue, and the hotel issue several times." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Please do not waste my time, or that of your fellow players, asking me to repeat myself." Jimmy Hetfield says, " ok i just gotta say...that people should go and report if their offended..." Having finished addressing the assembly Jimmy Hetfield sits back down. Jade Rose stands up to address the assembly. Jade Rose waves. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Jade." Gabriella Valdez waves to Jade Rose. Jade Rose says, "Keep in mind that I wrote this at a time when I was a lot more upset than I am now." Jade Rose says, "Before I start, I'm gonna say that I'm going to slow down this time, but don't interrupt in the middle. I need to get through this entire thing. Also keep in mind that this was written up at a time when I was pretty upset, and not as calm as I really am now." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Jade." Jade Rose raises an eyebrow at Nicholas Lancaster. Jade Rose says, "It won't take long." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Is this a question, or a recounting of a past incident?" Jade Rose says, "New thing. New question." Nicholas Lancaster smiles. Jade Rose asks, "May I resume?" Nicholas Lancaster nods. Jade Rose says, "BTW, I don't know the entirety of the bungalow incident, but I'll point out that I know several people that have gotten away with that. Not to mention the fact that you might not have heard of it, but there was a prostitution ring at one point. But besides that..." Jade Rose says, "I'm going to say some very OOC things right now, and I DON'T CARE." Jade Rose says, "You're always telling us to be in character. You're always telling us to say 'fog' instead of 'lag'. Or 'resting' instead of 'afk'. It's a supposed society, right? In a society, you don't have people breathing down your neck, listening to your conversations with other people, even if you are suspicious of them. Let's relate that to real life. Stalking...police, maybe...something of the sort. Illegal on the 'mainland'. OK, I'm trying my best not to say anything about individual cases." Jade Rose says, "Because you hide behind that. You hide behind the thing that you can't discuss individual cases. Well, there's not much left. So I won't discuss an individual case. Let's say a fictional 'Johnny' is fed up with the game. Yes, the game. He goes on MO, and says over the comm a few bad things." Jade Rose says, "Three seconds later, I get an IM from a friend on the game. They start agreeing with the guy. So do I. So do the other 10 or so people I hear from. Whoa! Some people are unsatisfied." Jade Rose says, "I'm not saying this happened. I'm saying similar things have happened. Can you hide behind that somehow as well? Can you hide behind the fact, somehow, that people are unsatisfied? I know I wouldn't be able to, but since all of you are so clever at doing that, I'm hoping you could show me how. Since you're all so creative in twisting around words, and situations, and focusing on things you shouldn't, overlook my point. As always. Overlook so many of the points here tonight. And for that, watch the 'society' crumble. Have fun." Jade Rose says, "Watch the people that once enjoyed the game leave." Jade Rose says, "Watch the once loyal BCC members, drain your pocketbooks and leave." Jade Rose says, "I think that's all you ever cared about anyway." Jade Rose says, "I'm done" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Thank you for your candor." Having finished addressing the assembly Jade Rose sits back down. Summer Matthews stands up to address the assembly. Summer Matthews says, "I would like to say first of all that I appreciate the opportunity to speak my mind and be heard in this forum. For that I thank you Nick." Summer Matthews bows to Nicholas Lancaster. Summer Matthews says, "I would just like to get clarity on a few issues....and then I will be done" Summer Matthews asks, "first of all....so contrary to what I heard on Sunday, if we can rp an 'intimate relationship' with our loved one within the context of the game, then that is allowed in the hotel correct?" Summer Matthews says, "without vulgarity of course" Summer Matthews asks, "and second, as long as we are not saying anything in the hotel that is against policy, even if it is a player with a past infraction, they will not be monitored, correct?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Within the context of the game, moderated by policy. Personally, I don't care if you want to get graphic, but you must realize that the more ... um ..." Nicholas Lancaster says, "... enthusiastic you get, the more difficult it is to quantify it as roleplaying." Summer Matthews says, "I understand that" Summer Matthews grins. Summer Matthews asks, "My third question is..if I go into a hotel room and say I don't like so and so and I wish she would die, that is considered against policy?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Whoa, back up to the second question." Nicholas Lancaster grins. Summer Matthews says, "sorry" Summer Matthews grins. Summer Matthews says, "I'm trying to hurry" Summer Matthews says, "I need to go to bed" Summer Matthews says, "it's after midnight" Nicholas Lancaster asks, "I asked for that, didn't I?" Summer Matthews says, "and I waited forever" Nicholas Lancaster says, "We only monitor if given cause through prior or current activities." Summer Matthews asks, "okay and if you are monitoring said person, and you see they aren't doing anything against the policy after say five minutes, do you stop?" Summer Matthews asks, "Or do you continue to watch, waiting to see if they do something?" Nicholas Lancaster asks, "As for your third question, and I understand it touches upon your encounter with Siri, you don't really need to be in Modus to say you hate someone's guts, do you?" Summer Matthews says, "If I hate someone I hate them" Summer Matthews asks, "if it is IC, why shouldn't I say it?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I can't answer that without breaking confidences, yours as well as others." Summer Matthews says, "Okay" Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Anything else?" Summer Matthews says, "Can you answer my third question? I have to go" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I did." Summer Matthews says, "I'm sorry" Summer Matthews says, "the one about continuing to monitor" Nicholas Lancaster says, "You betcha." Summer Matthews says, "okay" Summer Matthews says, "thank you" Summer Matthews waves. Summer Matthews just left. Morgan Whitney stands up to address the assembly. Morgan Whitney smiles. Morgan Whitney says, " Just a quick question." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Morgan." Morgan Whitney says, " How are you guys alreted to the fact that someone is breaking the rules? " Morgan Whitney says, " If they haven't had any prior warnings.." Nicholas Lancaster says, "It is rare that a first infraction is said in private. It is often on the PBR, in public, or even couched in someone's name." Morgan Whitney asks, " Well even in public how is it seen?" Morgan Whitney asks, " Is it often reported by someone else?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Yes, it is." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Of course, with the PBR, it's not an issue." Morgan Whitney nods. Morgan Whitney says, " I understand that, thats why I didn't ask." Morgan Whitney asks, " So to be truly warned for a word said in private...you'd have to be already mointored?" Morgan Whitney asks, " For a prior warning?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "I believe that is essentially correct." Morgan Whitney asks, " So there isn't like a red flag that goes up when someone says a naughty word in the hotel?" Nicholas Lancaster says, "It is rare that that prior warning to be a single infraction, but more a continued course of action." Nicholas Lancaster says, "We'd run out of red flags." Morgan Whitney says, " Or in public for that matter." Morgan Whitney says, " I was just curious." Morgan Whitney shrugs. Nicholas Lancaster says, "I'll admit that when I am a player in other Simutronics products, I will report unacceptable behavior to that game's staff." Nicholas Lancaster says, "I don't do this because I am obligated to, but because a) there's no reason for it, and b) I don't play a game to see people hone their offensive vocabulary." Nicholas Lancaster asks, "Anything else?" Morgan Whitney shakes her head. Having finished addressing the assembly Morgan Whitney sits back down. Wegarius Hodge stands up to address the assembly. Wegarius Hodge says, "Please let the next person speak, Mr. Lancaster." Nicholas Lancaster says, "At this time, please do not add yourselves to the queue. I think we're all getting a little fuzzy 'round the edges." Wegarius Hodge smiles at Nicholas Lancaster. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Thank you, Wegarius." Having finished addressing the assembly Wegarius Hodge sits back down. Gwen Manson stands up to address the assembly. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Gwen." Gabriella Valdez smiles at Gwen Manson. Having finished addressing the assembly Gwen Manson sits back down. Bryan Hit stands up to address the assembly. Nicholas Lancaster says, "Hello, Bryan." Bryan Hit says, "I have no question, just a comment or two. While I understand that a few people were upset over things that happened, I believe this forum is a good place to air these differences out and get answer" Gabriella Valdez smiles at Bryan Hit. Bryan Hit asks, "However, I wish i could understand the point of repeating the same questions over and over and over. To make us all keel over from frustration?" Bryan Hit says, "Probably not, but I can honestly see the points of some people....and I see Nick's points. The fact of the matter is, this place has policies. You all knew that when you came here. " Bryan Hit says, "none of these policies have changed to my knowldege, and i've been here for a looong time. What's important here is to remember that GM's are people, too....just like you and I. " Bryan Hit says, "they make mistakes just like we do, and if you can't accept that....then maybe you are unable to accept your own faults, too. I'm just glad this forum is happening, because I am learning a lot about" Bryan Hit says, "not only the rules and the GM's, but about my fellow tourists. Some of the things i learned has really saddened me, too." Bryan Hit says, "I truly hope that we can learn something from this forum and either apply a few ideas and opinions.....and also get back to some form of peace. I just would like the bickering and the finger pointin" Bryan Hit says, "to stop.....not just for me, but for EVERYONE." Bryan Hit seems sad. Bryan Hit says, "I'm done" Bryan Hit smiles nick Gabriella Valdez smiles at Bryan Hit. Bryan Hit says, "ack" Nicholas Lancaster says, "Thank you, Bryan." Bryan Hit grins. Gabriella Valdez grins. Nicholas Lancaster says, "I do belive that's it." Having finished addressing the assembly Bryan Hit sits back down. Nicholas Lancaster says, "I want to thank all of you for your patience." Gabriella Valdez pats Nicholas on the back. Nicholas Lancaster says, "And I hope this has helped clarify or alleviate some of your concerns." Nicholas Lancaster says, "Thank you." Gabriella Valdez opens the floor back up for general discussion. Nicholas Lancaster collapses in a heap on the floor. Time: about 4 hours 25 minutes
