Madison Woodrow asks, "When applying, should we list our main character or an
 alternative one?"

Jackson Shepard says, "The application actually asks for all your characters."

Madison Woodrow says, "Right, but it asks what level intially."

Madison Woodrow asks, "so which person should we use for that?"

Siri Macallan says, "But the profile you turn in should be on the one you want to
 work with."

Madison Woodrow nods.

Jackson Shepard says, "But because we have the new rule about using any of your
 characters to Mentor as long as at least one is minimum 12th Level. Make sure that
 you specify which character you would use for Mentoring."

Armand Chascour says, "you'll be a guide with only one character. But they want to
 check to make sure you haven't been naughty under an alias"

Ami Stuart raises her hand.

Siri Macallan asks, "Ami?"

Allison McGuire says, "Which is important, with people like Floyd around."
Allison McGuire leans on Floyd Barrett.

Jackson Shepard says, "And the character you choose should be one suited to being a
 part of the Island Welcome Wagon basically."

Ami Stuart asks, "so just one of your characters has to be level 13?"

Chance Nevada smirks.

Floyd Barrett says, "level requirments on stuff...I've been here over three and a
 half years but only level 16 and I'm not allowed to marry officially."

 island knowledge but because you don't care to hunt you can't do certain things."

Siri Macallan says, "In the past, I've often heard people say, "I don't know what to
 write my profile about.  Everything always seems so dramatic!  What if I don't want
 to be an international spy?""

Siri Macallan says, "And I was thinking about it for a while, and realized that while
 not everyone focuses on the BIG stuff, most do."
Siri Macallan says, "Our characters have dramatic backgrounds."

Siri Macallan says, "And sure, those "events" catapult character motivations, etc."

 small stuff approach."

Siri Macallan says, "There are a ton of things we do everyday which don't make for a
 hill of beans in the dramatic department, but are an intrinsic part of our lives."
Siri Macallan says, "And every little thing has some meaning."
Siri Macallan asks, "Why do you fiddle with the rings on your fingers?"

 or nonplussed, she reaches for a cigarette."

Siri Macallan says, "Now, I'm personally a die-hard non-smoker IRL, but she's not."

 parenthesis."

 sleep."
Siri Macallan asks, "What things have to be "just so" before you go to bed?  Why?"

Siri Macallan asks, "Then after you've gone through your Saturday, write about your
 character's Saturday.  What would he or she do?"
Siri Macallan asks, "and WHY?"
Siri Macallan says, "The big question is WHY."

Madison Woodrow says, "What if your character concept is completely different from
 who you are in real life?  I mean off hand I really can't find any similarities."

Jackson Shepard says, "Contrast those differences, Madison."

Siri Macallan says, "That's fine, the first just gives you an opportunity to observe
 the huge amount of things that go into at 6 hour period."

Siri Macallan says, "Which in turn gives you more things to consider
 for your character, even if they're not the same."

Madison Woodrow asks, "can we also observe what our friends do?"

 character would do on a Saturday evening by themselves, and send it to me, I'll give
 you 2k noto for it."

 flaws, and tears them up"

 Like going to dinner.  Sometimes you just go because your hungry and someone
 suggests a place."

Megan Wilkes asks, "What if your character is not aware of their motivations?"

 time to observe yourself in."

Amanda Blair asks, "How do we do our character off-island if this is where they
 exist? Shouldn't we incorporate how they behave into the possibilities and
 limitations offered on the Island?"

Siri Macallan says, "Mostly I really want you to think carefully about what you'd do
 on a normal day."

Jackson Shepard says, "What I personally look for is a genuine desire to help, an
 understanding of the game, and a willingness to be a team player."

Madison Woodrow asks, "I know you get a lot of applications, is there an estimated
 amount of time I can expect to hear back from you?"

Jackson Shepard says, "That's a good question. And it's not always as easy to answer
 as you might think."

Jackson Shepard says, "I'm told that the applications say that "We are very busy,
 blah, blah. It may be six months before we are able to get back to you, etc.""

Madison Woodrow says, "I'm really curious as to whether or not I made the cut, so to
 speak.  So I'm going to be stressing over it for a few days."

Jackson Shepard says, "I certainly hope to get back to you before then. But there are
 always a ton of variables."

Jackson Shepard says, "Generally it takes me one-three weeks to respond. I have to
 look things up, check with the Mentors opinions, check with other Staffs opinions,
 etc."

Madison Woodrow asks, "and also, if a person has multiple characters, and the
 character they mentor for is always IC, etc but the other character may not be as
 well guided, is that going to be a strike against them?"

Madison Woodrow says, "er, the character they want to mentor with rather"

Jackson Shepard says, "In the meantime, it's a good idea to stay IC at all times.
 Island Guides help out as their characters and are required to stay In Character all
 the time."

Jackson Shepard says, "It's best to stay IC with all your characters. If you want to
 be OOC, come here. That's what the Cafe' is for."

Madison Woodrow says, "not blatantly OOC, but merely stating something about
 *leveling* or you know a slip similar."
Madison Woodrow asks, "but it'd be a good idea to remain IC with all of your
 characters?"

Jackson Shepard says, "My thoughts on that are that it is just so easy to say
 "trained" as opposed to "leveled"."
Jackson Shepard asks, "If you can't make the effort to type a different word, are you
 going to be able to make an effort to Mentor ten hours a month?"

Madison Woodrow says, "I guess my issue is that my main character I typically have
 extreme fun with, sometimes it gets a bit unrealistic but still fun.  Yet, this
 character I am always IC."

Madison Woodrow says, "I do make that distinction.  I just hope that wouldn't
 penalize me at all."

Jackson Shepard says, "Penalize? No. But I would certainly put anybody who stayed IC
 on all characters at the top of the list."

Madison Woodrow nods.

 recruiting, but it might be a while before I get back to you on your application.

 reveal just yet, at least not in a profile.   I'm not talking about the assignment
 either.  I'm talking about the character profile."

Jenne Carmen asks, "Do you have any ideas of how I can hint at some things without
 giving it all away?"

Siri Macallan says, "I do, but it depends on how much work you want to put into it."

Sara McGyver says, "If your character normally wouldn't reveal things using his/her
 own voice, you can write your profile from another person's voice. Many profiles
 have been done that way."

Jackson Shepard says, "You can give it all away in your application and then tell me
 what parts you want left out in the Profile Archive too."

Siri Macallan says, "Or you can do two profiles ... one for yourself and us ... and
 one for public viewing."
Siri Macallan says, "My character's profile doesn't tell all."

Jackson Shepard nods to Siri Macallan.

Siri Macallan says, "But I have one that does."

Jenne Carmen says, "Oh, I meant that I was looking for advice on making it
 interesting and hinting but not disclosing all."

Jackson Shepard says, "Some profiles actually tell more than would be in a public
 library. I have been working on ideas for changing that."

Jenne Carmen says, "Okay, thanks."

Siri Macallan says, "I think it would be interested no matter how much of the info
 you put in it."

Sara McGyver says, "Sometimes picking the style you write your profile in will help
 how you reveal info. In your case, I wouldn't recommend writing a confessional, for
 example."

Jackson Shepard says, "Mystery can be very interesting. You can always do a profile
 and then put something like [Edited for National Security] in there to imply parts
 were taken out."

Siri Macallan asks, "Silvana?"

Silvana StoneSkye asks, "You've read mine I believe... any suggestions?"

Silvana StoneSkye says, "I did it a bit different than I'd seen the others done, so I
 was curious if it came across well."
