Also in the room: People Obvious exits: none. Siri Macallan says, "We can do this a couple of ways..." Siri Macallan says, "Either we can have an open forum, and you all sit on your hands for an hour or so, and don't interrupt, or I can do the quiet session thing." Siri Macallan says, "Seriously, I have to clean up the log of this session so if I find people chatting, moving or going in and out, I'll make it quiet." Siri Macallan asks, "Fair enough?" Siri Macallan grins. Siri Macallan says, "Tonight's topic isn't about how to role-play. I'd actually like to have a couple of sessions next week on character development, etc." Siri Macallan clears her throat loudly. Siri Macallan says, "What I'd like to find out tonight is what your opinions are on how roleplaying fits into Modus, how the players can better it, and how we GMs can support it more." Siri Macallan says, "We've got a couple of great ideas in the works, but we won't know if they'll work until we know how serious you all are." Siri Macallan says, "The first question I have for you is this..." Siri Macallan gets a distant look on her face as she ponders. Siri Macallan says, "Not sure how to word this without sounding insulting..." Siri Macallan says, "There are obviously those who DO role-play and take it very seriously, and those that don't RP at all and who could care less." Siri Macallan asks, "Who sees that as a difficulty?" Ferd Berfel raises his hand. Ferd Berfel smiles at Siri Macallan. Siri Macallan asks, "And if so, what should be done to help even the field?" Siri Macallan asks, "Ferd?" Ferd Berfel says, "There are also those who only Rp around staff, or around those that are blatantly obvious are staff members playing a role" Siri Macallan asks, "Blatantly obvious?" Ferd Berfel says, "in light of recent events" Ferd Berfel smiles. Siri Macallan grins. Siri Macallan says, "Okay." Siri Macallan asks, "Valerie?" Valerie Esparza says, "well" Valerie Esparza says, "let me phrase this correctly" Valerie Esparza says, "there has been a change here on the island because of the web ferry" Valerie Esparza says, "older players have left" Valerie Esparza says, "I have stayed" Siri Macallan says, "I don't necessarily agree with that, but go ahead." Valerie Esparza says, "I see that..and this is my opinion.." Siri Macallan nods to Valerie Esparza. Valerie Esparza says, "that some are too young" Valerie Esparza says, "that is..they don't really understand roleplaying" Valerie Esparza says, "they talk about school and things from real life" Valerie Esparza says, "off the island" Siri Macallan says, "And some others talk about rotten days on the job." Siri Macallan nods. Valerie Esparza nods. Valerie Esparza says, "so there is the problem" Siri Macallan asks, "What is the solution?" Valerie Esparza says, "restrict usage of the comm" Valerie Esparza says, "that is one solution" Valerie Esparza says, "Im finished now so others can talk" Valerie Esparza nods. Siri Macallan says, "Jade." Siri Macallan smiles. Jade Rose says, "I have a couple of suggestions as to help us roleplay more. It's all fine and good when people grin on the comm and someone says, "How the heck can you grin on the comm?" In fact, occasionally it's FUNNY. But when people draw attention to it, they get out of character by even acknowledging it. The other thing I was thinking about was that GMs should crack down more often on this. It seems they only get upset at certain people. I'm not saying it's biased...not at all. In fact, what I'm saying is that the focus point should also be on new tourists. And a final thought is that maybe we can have more events based upon Role-playing...and stuff like that, as well as some more role-playing based upon professions." Jade Rose exclaims, "woo hoo! i said that all in one breath!" Jade pants. Siri Macallan grins. Siri Macallan says, "I think that the PBR use of emotives, or whatever they're called, isn't limited to newbies." Jade Rose says, "I'm saying though that newbies get less attention when they're out of character from the GMs" Siri Macallan says, "But I'm interested to hear what others say about cracking down on the use of them." Jade Rose says, "and more attention from us." Jade Rose nods to Siri Macallan. Jade Rose says, "it's sometimes just ridiculous how much attention is drawn to the OOCness of the comm" Siri Macallan nods. Siri Macallan says, "I know." Siri Macallan says, "Thanks, Jade." Jade Rose nods. Siri Macallan asks, "Cecilia?" Cecilia Scully says, "jade basically brought up what I wanted to talk about about the grinning and stuff like that on the comm" Siri Macallan nods. Siri Macallan asks, "Okay. What do you think should be done about it?" Cecilia Scully says, "But what I also wanted to say is that when a person DOES try to correct the person, they make up excuses like "I have a video comm" which everyone knows isn't true" Siri Macallan says, "At least it's creative." Shiva Malone chuckles. Siri Macallan grins. Siri Macallan nods to Cecilia Scully. Cecilia Scully says, "And you're right, its not just newbies, its a whole lot of people, and not to sound mean, but the GMs and the GHs don't crack down on it very much" Siri Macallan says, "Well, it's one of those borderline issues." Siri Macallan says, "We can crack down on vulgarity or we can be RP Nazis." Cecilia Scully says, "And I don't blame the newbies as much, because its not all their fault...we, the other players, don't help them as much as we should" Cecilia Scully shrugs. Siri Macallan says, "I mean, we can do both, but a lot of people wonder why we have our knicker in a knot over emotives." Cecilia Scully says, "Cause none of us when we arrived here knew the rules or that we had to RP" Siri Macallan says, "Thanks, Cecilia." Siri Macallan asks, "Andrew?" Andrew Wigen says, "ok, first off, on the subject of grinning and things over the comm, I choose to view it as a definition of tone" Andrew Wigen says, "because, you can't really tell the tone of a person" Andrew Wigen says, "so a lot of things can be taken the wrong way" Andrew Wigen says, "when a person says something, followed by you know its a joke" Siri Macallan says, "That's the nature of text." Andrew Wigen says, "not to be taken seriously" Andrew Wigen says, "so i think, the ones that are the problems, are the ones that aren't accompanied by a statement" Siri Macallan says, "Just to let you know... I personally don't have a problem with etc. Sounds can be heard, and they're just as indicitive of tone." Andrew Wigen says, "because they don't really display anything" Siri Macallan asks, "Why not use those?" Andrew Wigen says, "sometimes a laugh or a giggle doesn't work as good as a grin" Andrew Wigen says, "laughing usually responds to someone else" Siri Macallan says, "Okay." Andrew Wigen says, "but thats just my view" Siri Macallan says, "I don't see that, but I'll give it to you." Siri Macallan grins. Andrew Wigen grins. Andrew Wigen says, "I also have a question on helping new folks out" Siri Macallan says, "By the way... I want to say that I'm really opinionated about RP." Andrew Wigen says, "the help files are a great resource for new people, but they are OOC" Siri Macallan asks, "And I'm not meaning to trounce anyone else's opinions, okay?" Andrew Wigen asks, "if a person asks a question over the comm, is it bad form to tell them to read over the help files?" Siri Macallan says, "I'm not expecting us to come to some agreement on what it is or isn't. I'd just like to know what the majority of you are thinking." Siri Macallan says, "Yeah, I'd say it is. It's much better to go find them and give them a tour. You might make a friend and a better player because of it." Andrew Wigen nods. Siri Macallan says, "Thanks, Andrew." Andrew Wigen says, "one last question, who exactly are we? I know we are tourists, and we refer to going back to the mainland, but that would signify that we had a mainland life" Siri Macallan says, "Well..." Andrew Wigen grins. Siri Macallan says, "See, that's something of a grey area." Siri Macallan says, "If your character wants to treat Morada like ClubMed, then that's part of your character." Andrew Wigen nods to Siri Macallan. Andrew Wigen says, "thanks" Siri Macallan asks, "Chelsea?" Chelsea Hill says, "First, I don't think age has anything to do with roleplaying. I have met a few 15 year olds on Mushes that are amazing roleplayers." Siri Macallan says, "I've seen a lot of characters retire to the Port Club for bed." Chelsea Hill says, "And I am old so I can say that." Siri Macallan grins. Chelsea Hill says, "Second, I can always turn my com off or ignore it." Chelsea Hill says, "What would help me, is if there were designated areas for OOC communication." Siri Macallan nods. Siri Macallan says, "Okay, since that topic has come up..." Siri Macallan whistles a cheerful tune. Chelsea Hill says, "Maybe a coffee house in OWF or something. Or even one for IC communicationif others don't want to roleplay." Siri Macallan says, "We are thinking, only THINKING mind you, of opening a OOC only area." Chelsea Hill says, "I do get tired of being in the middle of a conversation and having people talking about their modems and scripts and such." Siri Macallan says, "If you come out of there, we'd expect you to be IC all the time." Chelsea Hill smiles. Chelsea Hill says, "That would be nice, but I am curious about how they would enforce that?" Siri Macallan says, "Well, if you're OOC in an IC area, we'd warn you." Chelsea Hill nods. Siri Macallan says, "If you do it too many times, you don't come out of the OOC area." Chelsea Hill says, "That would be good for many of us and really help us to roleplay better." Siri Macallan says, "See, if we have something like this, it has to be player supported." Chelsea Hill nods. Siri Macallan says, "No more waffling along the fence." Siri Macallan asks, "Anything else, Chelsea?" Chelsea Hill says, "Yes, but I can imagine the island is very divided at the moment." Siri Macallan smiles. Chelsea Hill says, "Not now." Chelsea Hill smiles. Siri Macallan asks, "Liz?" Siri Macallan smiles. Liz Camp says, "Hiya, I have two things to say" Liz Camp says, "I really dont think there is a problem about not rping witha close friend, in private. But it kinda bothers me when people dont rp in public." Liz Camp says, "Or in a whisper, I think not rping is okay.." Liz Camp smiles. Siri Macallan nods. Liz Camp says, "I know a lot of us have close mainland friends on the isle" Siri Macallan says, "I don't have a problem with not RPing in a whisper, that's how most of the training of Newbies gets done." Liz Camp takes a deep breath of air. Liz Camp says, "Also.." Liz Camp says, "I dont believe that newbies should be punished for not being in character, I think they should just be warned. And then punished if they dont comply" Liz Camp blinks. Liz Camp says, "They havent been told the rules, and they aren't used to it yet" Liz Camp says, "I kinda think we should be a little more leniant on the," Liz Camp smiles. Liz Camp fidgets. Liz Camp says, "And, thats about it" Liz Camp grins. Siri Macallan says, "Okay, that sort of brings up the difference between do they have acharacter yet, and are they playing it." Liz Camp nods. Siri Macallan says, "Sometimes it takes a level or so to settle in." Siri Macallan asks, "Jon?" Jon Garfield says, "First, I pretty much agree with Andrew about the grinning, etc. on the comm. A can show you're joking, and a can show you're being sarcastic, and they express your tone of voice much more effectively that trying to do something like , followed by whatever you were going to say. I'd say things like poking someone would be bad, but facial expression aren't so awful. For my second, I'll whisper to you first, to make sure I'm not opening a can of worms that you'd rather leave closed for now." Siri Macallan grins. Siri Macallan says, "Go ahead." Siri Macallan says, "We're tough." Jon Garfield chuckles. Jon Garfield says, "Ok" Jon Garfield says, "I personally feel that the BCC is OOC because it makes our status on the island rely on off-island money, rather than paying dues with our cash inside the game." Siri Macallan says, "In that sense it is." Siri Macallan says, "But unfortunately, it's not something the GMs have any control over." Jon Garfield nods. Siri Macallan says, "So we're doing the best we can to make it as IC as possible." Siri Macallan says, "We do the builting, not the business arrangements." Jon Garfield nods. Jon Garfield says, "I understand" Siri Macallan says, "I guess my stance about PBRs is that they're audio only. And that most of the conversations that go on them should really be done in person anyway." Siri Macallan coughs. Siri Macallan says, "I know that's an unpopular view, but there it is." Siri Macallan says, "Thanks, Jon." Siri Macallan smiles at Jon Garfield. Jon Garfield nods. Siri Macallan asks, "Sabrina?" Sabrina McCloud says, "I think it's not a matter of age, but rather of maturity. There are some people who come to the island and will go blatantly OOC on the comm, and there are others who may be the same age who are mature enough to understand how MO is supposed to work. I agree with Jade that if we try to get people to stay IC, it should focus somewhat more on newbies, to impress on them that this isn't just a game, it's a Role-Playing game, and that means you role-play." Sabrina McCloud says, "I think that people who continuously go OOC should be warned and if it's still a problem, perhaps giving them a bit of time in the cell could help. I'd like to see the GMs cracking down on OOC-ness a bit more. I hate when people use emoti-whatevers on the comm and it becomes a big fuss. I think that putting stuff like or something is acceptable, it's used to show a feeling or tone, like Andrew said." Sabrina McCloud says, "I think an OOC area, a small one, could be good, though it might kind of ruin the effect of being a role-playing game, with having an OOC section. That just seems like a glorified chat room to me. It could also be good, in the fact that those who want to RP can, without interruptions. I don't think going OOC is okay with just a few people or in whispers, but some people just don't RP at all, and I really hate that." Sabrina McCloud says, "I think that's all I wanted to say, sorry if it was kind of scrambled, I just said things as I thought back to what's already been said." Sabrina McCloud grins. Sabrina McCloud says, "Sorry if it was too fast for you" Sabrina McCloud blushes a nice shade of off-pink. Siri Macallan grins. Siri Macallan says, "Thanks, Sabrina." Siri Macallan asks, "Karen?" Karen Karsen says, "One of the things that I have really noticed is that it is hard to discuss one's IC background." Karen Karsen says, "People assume, when you say "I'm from " that you're talking about IRL." Siri Macallan nods. Karen Karsen says, "Similarly, if you talk about your past, people assume it's your IRL past, not your character's." Karen Karsen says, "Since it's unlikely that in the near future this will change, I'd like to see at least one room... a cocktail lounge or something... where it is understood that all discussions therein are IC." Karen Karsen curtsies. Siri Macallan asks, "So you're all for a strictly IC place in addition to or opposed to an OOC place?" Karen Karsen nods to Siri Macallan. Siri Macallan grins. Siri Macallan asks, "Which one?" Karen Karsen says, "Where "the mainland" refers to dirt, not to IRL." Karen Karsen says, "I am not particular about the location, if that is what you are asking." Karen Karsen smiles. Elise Evans says, "I think an IC place would be good, although I'm not really sure how needed it is." Siri Macallan says, "I'd really just have the whole game be totally IC." Cat Jacobs agrees with Elise Evans. Cat Jacobs agrees with Siri Macallan. Karen Karsen agrees with Siri Macallan. Elise Evans agrees with Siri Macallan. Savannah Reynolds agrees with Siri Macallan. Wes Caldwell agrees with Siri Macallan. Sabrina McCloud agrees with Siri Macallan. Jean Jameison agrees with Siri Macallan. Siri Macallan says, "Lots of agreement on that one." Karen Karsen asks, "But, can we expect that at this juncture?" Siri Macallan says, "I think it's something everyone needs to work towards." Siri Macallan says, "It happens one character at a time." Siri Macallan asks, "Snake?" Siri Macallan says, "Thanks, Karen." Siri Macallan smiles at Karen Karsen. Snake Silvertongue says, "You asked our opinions earlier about what could be done to solve IC vs OOC problems" Siri Macallan nods to Snake Silvertongue. Snake Silvertongue says, "I say stop them at the source... adapt" Snake Silvertongue says, "For example, I agree with both sides of the comm arguement, but why not just eliminate the arguement," Snake Silvertongue says, "by giving us "Dick Tracy's" that are video comms? I mean this is fiction after all, and video phones aren't that far away technically speaking. And it would encourage "long-distance RP, so to speak." Siri Macallan says, "That's a point." Snake Silvertongue says, "Also, why not have a HELP channel on the comm" Snake Silvertongue says, "Channel 0, or whatever, just for newbies and OOC" Siri Macallan exclaims, "Do you really want to see [1: Red Jones] You're a bobo!" Siri Macallan says, "Of course, we get that now." Savannah Reynolds laughs! Julie Green giggles. Lucy OHara grins. Edward Straker chuckles. Elise Evans giggles. Chelsea Hill smiles. Ace Jordan grins. Sabrina McCloud giggles. Arielle Drummond chuckles. Siri Macallan grins. Snake Silvertongue says, "Well, you can always use the Wizard to squelch " Snake Silvertongue shrugs. Snake Silvertongue says, "On the comm or elsewhere" Siri Macallan says, "And actually, not that I'm discarding the idea, but even actions wouldn't be focused at any one person..." Siri Macallan says, "What a player does is seen by all." Siri Macallan says, "It's a community band item." Snake Silvertongue says, "Another point..." Snake Silvertongue says, "If people want a Chat Room here, give it to them" Snake Silvertongue says, "We have computers on the island" Snake Silvertongue says, "Make a place at the University just for chat" Siri Macallan says, "Okay, so here's a question..." Siri Macallan says, "Except when the game is down..." Snake Silvertongue says, "When I first came here I thought everyone would be a RPer since the 4th grade like me, but it just isn't true" Siri Macallan asks, "How many people really used the chat rooms in AOL or in Prodigy?" Siri Macallan says, "The ones dedicated to Modus." Snake Silvertongue says, "So, why not adapt and embrace the diversity of toursits rather than gripe about it" Brian Indiana says, "most of the time no one on Prodigy" Siri Macallan nods to Brian Indiana. Siri Macallan asks, "How would a chat area differ than an OOC area?" Siri Macallan says, "Err, from an." Snake Silvertongue says, "If tourists are materialistic, give them an Auction Block, if they are chatty, give them a computer chat room area" Snake Silvertongue says, "Well, there are many RP games on AOL that are carried on in Chat Rooms" Savannah Reynolds says, "Actions, and you can continue to monitor the comm from the OOC area, and the arrivals list" Siri Macallan says, "Wait, I wasn't being very clear. Sorry..." Siri Macallan says, "I'm asking what the difference would be between an OOC area and a Chat area within the game itself." Snake Silvertongue asks, "Like Dragon Inn, stuff like that, if Modus wasn't a superiour gaming experience than a chat room RP, would it even have an audience?" Snake Silvertongue says, "Good question" Snake Silvertongue says, "I hope my answer is as good" Snake Silvertongue smirks. Siri Macallan grins. Snake Silvertongue says, "The chat room area, would be a place to be OOC, while remaining IC, to an extent" Michael Stonecraft nods to Snake Silvertongue. Snake Silvertongue says, "I'm not saying add a "chat room refugee" profession" Siri Macallan says, "Okay, I'm not getting how to do that." Siri Macallan says, "But I feel I've somehow had this discussion recently." Snake Silvertongue smiles. Siri Macallan says, "How can you be OOC while staying IC." Snake Silvertongue says, "By being yourself in a pretend place" Siri Macallan says, "Okay." Lacy Banter says, "All the tourists could go to the computer room at U of M and play a fantasy game called 'Real Life'." Snake Silvertongue says, "Which is what a lot of people do here" Siri Macallan nods. Siri Macallan says, "Okay... I see what you're saying. I'm not sure I agree with it, but I'm pondering." Siri Macallan smiles. Snake Silvertongue says, "I don't agree with it, but as I said, I would prefer non-RPers have a place to go, rather than gripe about not understanding RP" Siri Macallan nods. Siri Macallan says, "What about the concept of helping those who want to learn it, learn it." Siri Macallan shrugs. Siri Macallan says, "This is something else I want to throw at you..." Snake Silvertongue says, "Well, as Snake, I spend a lot of time seeking out and helping newbies, and others" Siri Macallan asks, "How do we point out the really great RPers to everyone else as a (no pun intended) Role model?" Snake Silvertongue asks, "Well, are you aware of the Mentor Page?" Siri Macallan says, "Some people are out and out awesome, and shoule be known for it." Siri Macallan asks, "Nope. Clue me in?" Snake Silvertongue says, "Xena, Gem, and the other games contribute to a Mentor Page" Snake Silvertongue says, "Well, not Cyberstrike" Kim Canella says, "But RP hall of fame would make some enemies for them" Snake Silvertongue says, "But it is like an advanced Help area" Siri Macallan says, "Hold that thought, Kim." Siri Macallan nods to Snake Silvertongue. Siri Macallan says, "I know what you mean know." Siri Macallan says, "Now." Siri Macallan mumbles something unprintable. Snake Silvertongue says, "I would offer my services to a project like that in a second" Siri Macallan says, "Be careful of what you volunteer for." Siri Macallan smiles evilly. Snake Silvertongue smiles. Siri Macallan says, "Just ask the staff." Ceit Galbraith chuckles. Aslana Marsh chuckles. Roxanne Czevinski asks, "What about a weekly list of 4-5 names on the banner?" Snake Silvertongue says, "Yes, you could have a topscore for RP noto bonuses even" Chelsea Hill says, "Why not simply a character page on the website? With brief descriptions?" Chelsea Hill says, "Lots of muds have those." Siri Macallan asks, "Chel, hold on, okay?" Chelsea Hill says, "oops, sorry" Siri Macallan asks, "Anything else, Snake?" Sabrina McCloud says, "I just had a technical question about the video comm idea, how would we see everyone when they were talking, especially if a whole bunch of people transmit at the same time? It could work here, but it doesn't seem practical like it'd work if this was real.stat full" Sabrina McCloud says, "eep, sorry" Sabrina McCloud blushes a nice shade of off-pink. Snake Silvertongue says, "Lots, but I'll wait till later. I've got nothing, but time" Snake Silvertongue smirks. Siri Macallan grins. Siri Macallan says, "I could use some." Siri Macallan says, "Okay, Lacy. Lacy Banter says, "I'm happy to wait if you'd like to purse this topic... otherwise it'll get changed a little." Siri Macallan says, "We can always bring it back. If it's about RP, go ahead and spill it." Lacy Banter says, "You asked us earlier how GMs can better support role-playing. I'm afraid I'm a little long-winded today; I'll try to speak as quickly as possible. " Lacy Banter says, "Mysteries seem to be bringing out the best and worst in tourists. I tend to stay away from them myself since most tourists seem more interested in finding out the next line in the gms' script than having fun and being imaginative. The latest mystery events I've observed combat that problem rather well. Tourists who meet mysterious characters are forced to get to know them, rather than fighting with each other about who gets to ask the 'right' question or take the 'right' action." Lacy Banter says, "Mystery characters seem to be filling out: becoming people who want to make friends, threatening people in the pub, and having a life themselves, rather than hand-feeding the next mystery solution. I've observed tourists respond to it amazingly, and the more complex the mystery characters become, the better tourists seem to be getting at role-playing. Tourists are sometimes forced to get to know other tourists, too, when they mistake them for a ... well- you know. In summary, keep up the staff-character immersion! It's a great incentive to practice role-playing, and be rewarded with an intriguing and intelligent character to get to know at the same time. " Lacy wipes the sweat from her brow. Siri Macallan says, "Well, we love it." Lacy Banter says, "so do we." Lacy Banter grins. Siri Macallan says, "I haven't personally had so much fun in the last two years." Siri Macallan says, "It's been really pretty grand all the way around." Siri Macallan says, "But, then we have the Guess the GM game, and it gets on my personal nerves." Lacy Banter nods. Siri Macallan says, "Now, just as a note..." Siri Macallan says, "I saw a character come into Ananya's ICU room." Siri Macallan says, "He didn't do much... just kissed her hand, said a few words and left." Siri Macallan says, "It was understated and really very cool to watch." Siri Macallan says, "And it got everyone around going nuts." Siri Macallan asks, "My question is this... does it matter if that person was a GM or a player?" Siri Macallan says, "It added spice to the mystery." Siri Macallan says, "I don't care who played him." (Julie McCoy wants suggestions on how to fend off people who ask who people are.) Siri Macallan grins. Siri Macallan says, "Okay, this is for Julie who took a rather severe brow beating from me because someone else asked her who the characters were played by..." Siri Macallan says, "I do try to be fair." Siri Macallan grins. Julie McCoy nods to Siri Macallan. Siri Macallan says, "When someone says, "Hey, are they "special"? Or are they "tourists"..." Siri Macallan says, "My favorite come back is, "Who cares?"" Siri Macallan says, "And if they persist, just shrug." (Jon Garfield cares when they're acting under false pretenses and pretending to give a clue in the case.) Siri Macallan says, "Jon, I care about that too." Siri Macallan says, "But that's when you need to check in with a GM so we can watch." Siri Macallan says, "We carefully prepare plotlines, and trust me, I get reallllly cranky if someone messes with what I create." Siri Macallan says, "So, if you have doubts about someone's authenticity to hand out clues -- and I'm not talking about brainstorming ideas and theories -- then you need to holler for one of us." Siri Macallan says, "Or at least send me a log." Siri Macallan asks, "Is that okay?" Siri Macallan says, "Back to the original comment..." Siri Macallan says, "We do try to RP a lot. But I've spent really long hours playing lately, and I'm not getting any of my tech stuff done." (Julie McCoy loves how much mystery action there has been...) Julie McCoy just applauded Siri Macallan. Siri Macallan chuckles. Siri Macallan says, "Like I said, it's been great fun." Siri Macallan says, "And I have to say, you all have been totally marvelous to play with." Siri Macallan applauds everyone who has participated. Siri Macallan says, "So we'll try to keep the characters rolling... but we do have to do other stuff too." Siri Macallan grins. Siri Macallan says, "Lacy, to address your concern, though..." Siri Macallan says, "I don't know how to keep players from feeling like things are being horded or hogged." Siri Macallan says, "Because sometimes, that's part of the plot." Lacy Banter says, "I didn't expect an answer... I'm happy to run to the Cask." Lacy Banter shrugs. Siri Macallan says, "Sometimes we trust in the RP abilities of the people we hand things out to." Siri Macallan says, "To keep on with the mystery... just doing whatever they would normally do IC." Siri Macallan says, "It adds dimension for everyone, even if not everyone sees the underpinnings." Siri Macallan asks, "Does that make sense?" Lacy Banter nods to Siri Macallan. Lacy Banter says, "Yes." Siri Macallan says, "Okay." Siri Macallan smiles. Siri Macallan says, "Roxanne?" Roxanne Czevinski says, "It's so very borderline for me. I hate to step OOC even for this..." Roxanne Czevinski grins. Roxanne Czevinski says, "I am new player, new person, new character and I worked hard to create a character that is well-rounded" Siri Macallan nods to Roxanne Czevinski. Roxanne Czevinski says, "I look forward to making friends, helping with mystery, learning more about RP, but I choose bad time to come on with foreign name" Siri Macallan chuckles. Roxanne Czevinski says, "I am anxious to help and RP and people have been great with response to me, but I worry about interfering" Siri Macallan says, "That's not something I think you need to worry about." Siri Macallan says, "We all tend to jump in with both feet." Roxanne Czevinski says, "I try very hard to investigate, but for brief time I become focus of interest, and I worry that my RP take away from investigation" Roxanne Czevinski smiles at Siri Macallan. Siri Macallan smiles. Roxanne Czevinski says, "I would just hate to find myself one who is reported for interfering when I am careful not to make false claims" Siri Macallan says, "The character interactions are what make this a fun place to be." Roxanne Czevinski agrees with Siri Macallan. Roxanne Czevinski says, "Is wonderful." Siri Macallan says, "Even red herrings that come on their own are a great boon." Siri Macallan winks at Roxanne Czevinski. Roxanne Czevinski says, "I just think is fine line to walk" Siri Macallan says, "So, just roll with it, and see where the play takes you." Roxanne Czevinski nods to Siri Macallan. Roxanne Czevinski says, "I like that very much, thank you, Siri." Roxanne Czevinski smiles. Siri Macallan says, "Sure thing." Siri Macallan smiles. Siri Macallan says, "Chance." Siri Macallan smiles. Chance Nevada smiles. Chance Nevada says, "I jest wants to say how much I have enjoyed the way things been structured in terms of the mystery " Chance Nevada says, "It has encouraged the most RP I've seen to this place" Chance Nevada says, "I think that is the best way to encourage all to go with it" Chance Nevada says, "Not so much the stick as the carrot" Chance Nevada says, "I thinks the journey is jest as important as the destination" Siri Macallan says, "We're still learning the tricks to running events like this. The other Simu games don't really do this very often." Chance Nevada says, "I truly applaud ya fer it" Siri Macallan says, "Thanks." Siri Macallan smiles. Chance Nevada says, "It has really turned my head around on the experience I was havin'" Julie Green smiles at Chance Nevada. Siri Macallan says, "I'm really delighted that everyone is having so much fun." Siri Macallan says, "And anxiety." Siri Macallan cackles gleefully. Chance Nevada says, "As far as the guessin' who is doin' what thing" Siri Macallan nods. Chance Nevada says, "Feel free to lay a whoopin' on me fer this one" Chance Nevada says, "But with a minor exception" Chance Nevada says, "I thinks the perspective folks should hold" Chance Nevada says, "Is that the Gm's is but the poor folks who gots to trudge so hard to get to RP the same experience I is havin'" Siri Macallan grins. Chance Nevada says, "In all seriousness....." Siri Macallan says, "It's true, we don't get to out and out "play" very often." Chance Nevada says, "WHat sense is there in strugglin' to know who is the character behind the character behind the character" Chance Nevada says, "Kinda fool's play if ya ask me" Chance Nevada says, "Unless I gets to know where Ceit is all the time anyway" Siri Macallan says, "I've never thought it made any sense, but it's been a long while since I haven't been a GM somewhere." Chance Nevada blushes a nice shade of off-pink. Siri Macallan says, "Thanks, Chance." Siri Macallan says, "Elise." Siri Macallan smiles at Elise Evans. Elise Evans says, "Thanks Siri." Elise Evans says, "My first comment goes on to the mystery too, and applause for all those involved." Elise Evans says, "I've really enjoyed getting to know Anya over the last month or whatever .. and it was truly devastating to come here after a few days away and find her in ICU such a mess .. then to have her whisked away by that helicopter ...." Elise Evans sighs. Elise Evans says, "I think my point on this is having the chance to know her has really improved my own RP" Elise Evans says, "Even her whispers were IC" Elise Evans grumbles about something. Elise Evans says, "I never manage that" Siri Macallan grins. Elise Evans says, "So I guess thanks for the opportunity." Elise Evans smiles. Siri Macallan says, "I'll pass on the compliment." Siri Macallan says, "And you're welcome." Elise Evans says, "Another thing .. and unless you've experienced it you don't realise what a buzz it is ..." Elise Evans says, "I just love getting bonuses noto for my RP" Elise Evans says, "Yes, I can make more actual points hunting, but to get it for chatting and thinking and meeting people is really great." Siri Macallan says, "I always loved it when someone paid attention to the work I was doing RPing." Siri Macallan says, "It made me feel really pretty proud and happy." Elise Evans says, "Makes me feel like I'm doing something right." Siri Macallan nods. Siri Macallan says, "We're trying to be more aware of daily RPing too." Siri Macallan says, "So you get strokes and more notoriety for RPing, and don't have to worry so much about perping to make level, if that's not IC." Siri Macallan says, "Um, and that brings up another point..." Siri Macallan says, "How to reward good RPing." Siri Macallan says, "Without the "How come he got some and I didn't" effect." Siri Macallan says, "Thanks, Elise." Siri Macallan smiles. Siri Macallan asks, "Cat?" Cat Jacobs jumps up excitedly. Cat Jacobs beams happily. Cat Jacobs says, "Okay.." Cat Jacobs says, "I have alot to say..but I'm gunna do it as quickly as possible." Cat Jacobs says, "As far as your OOC area? Why not have an actual ferry that takes people to a "mainland" type of place..with airports, etc.. that could be the "ooc" area. Just a thought. So it really won't ruine the RP image." Siri Macallan asks, "Um, because I don't want to put my time into an OOC area?" Siri Macallan smiles. Chance Nevada grins at Siri Macallan. Cat Jacobs says, "Then don't do it at all." Siri Macallan says, "Because it is an issue." Siri Macallan says, "I don't have to like it, but it is my job to look at it." Cat Jacobs says, "If you aren't going to do it right..then don't do it. Because it will ruin what you are trying to keep." Siri Macallan says, "Cat, you're making determinations on what is "right" and what is not." Siri Macallan says, "We haven't even got that far yet." Cat Jacobs says, "It defeats the purpose entirely. This isn't a place where you should "have" to do anything." Cat Jacobs asks, "It's a RP enviroment, no?" Cat Jacobs says, "Okay, I'll drop it." Cat Jacobs says, "Next, the way to show certain players as mentors, sort of stands with my other comment." Cat Jacobs says, "I was going to suggest recognizing them..in that area." Cat Jacobs says, "Not on the banners.. once again, ooc.." Cat Jacobs glances at Siri Macallan. Cat Jacobs says, "Okay..and I also wanted to say that for the people who were and are involved with the current mystery. Alot of good RP and alot of good work.." Siri Macallan seems to agree! Cat Jacobs says, "I've not seen RP like that on modus in a long time..at least not public RP." Cat Jacobs says, "and perhaps another way to cut down on some of the OOC.." Cat Jacobs says, "would be to have a "mail center" for the tourists." Cat Jacobs says, "A place where I could write a letter to say..Katt.." Cat Jacobs says, "and she could receive here..on the island.." Siri Macallan says, "Well..." Cat Jacobs says, "I know, it would be alot of hard work.." Siri Macallan says, "I don't want to get into the privacy policy on mail, or having to watch if mail is IC or not." Cat Jacobs says, "I want to jump back to my little ferry idea real fast." Siri Macallan says, "Which is why we've decided to stay out of it, and let you all use Email." Siri Macallan smiles. Cat Jacobs says, "I want to clarify a little if that is alright.." Cat Jacobs says, "I didn't mean build and entirely new area.." Cat Jacobs says, "I meant have a place with a little boat..tourists can get on the boat..get a little message that lets them know they are leaving the island.." Cat Jacobs says, "and put them in a room..titled "airport" and let them be OOC there.." Siri Macallan nods. Cat Jacobs says, "I know how much work you all do.." Cat Jacobs says, "But I don't think it would take much more.." Cat Jacobs says, "time to do something like that.." Siri Macallan says, "We haven't decided how this thing would take shape, if we did it... but that was one of the suggestions." Cat Jacobs nods to Siri Macallan. Kim Canella says, "A departure pier? " Cat Jacobs nods to Kim Canella. Cat Jacobs says, "Something like that.." Cat Jacobs says, "But something that actually lets you "leave" the island.." Cat Jacobs says, "I mean this isn't any different than the coffee shop.." Cat Jacobs says, "Other than it allows the island to remain IC.." Cat Jacobs says, "as it should be.." Cat Jacobs says, "I'm not saying name it that..or even use that idea exactly.." Cat Jacobs says, "Just something like that." Siri Macallan nods. Siri Macallan says, "Thanks, Cat." Siri Macallan smiles. Cat Jacobs nods to Siri Macallan. Siri Macallan asks, "Wes?" Wes Caldwell bows. Siri Macallan smiles. Wes Caldwell says, "First, thank you for hosting this forum. I have a question that I think concerns both RPing and tampering with the mysteries that you and your staff have created." Wes Caldwell asks, "How would you feel if an investigator were to give a mystery character some inaccurate information?" Wes Caldwell says, "For example, I had considered using such an approach on a character in the hopes of panicking him into giving us information." Wes Caldwell says, "Does that constitute interference? Thanks." Siri Macallan says, "Actually, all the actors on stage know their motivations and lines pretty well. And part of this game and all the mysteries are improvisations." Wes Caldwell nods. Siri Macallan says, "So, if you want to try to throw a curveball at someone, feel free." Siri Macallan says, "It's up to them to decide what to do with it." Siri Macallan says, "See, I really like proactive RPing." Wes Caldwell says, "Okay. Thanks for the great mystery. I agree with Ms. Banter and everyone else that the more staff-player interaction, the better." Siri Macallan says, "I get all happy seeing it." Wes Caldwell nods to Siri Macallan. Wes Caldwell says, "As do I." Wes Caldwell bows. Siri Macallan says, "Thanks, Wes." Siri Macallan says, "Chelsea, you're up." Siri Macallan smiles. Chelsea Hill says, "First, I like the idea of an off the island ooc area..we can then log off and on there without popping into a IC conversation. Second..." Chelsea Hill says, "On Mushes and other roleplaying only Mu*s, they have something called tinyplots which are similar to our mysteries but they are strictly for the sake of roleplaying, not for noto. There is not talk of hoarding, hogging, etc. Couldn't the thrill of a mystery be the experience not the reward? Couldn't you eliminate rewards for solving things and give rp bonuses instead to those involved? Even those involved in the minor things? I for one, recieved hate e-mail long ago during a mystery and am a bit afraid to get too involved again. Personally, I could care less about the noto or money. I want to have fun and have an experience." Siri Macallan says, "Let me see if I grok." Siri Macallan says, "For RPing, you'd like the bonuses... but for the actual solving, you don't feel they are needed." Chelsea Hill says, "Yes, I think the roleplaying is part of the mystery." Chelsea Hill says, "And the reward should be the process, not the end result." Siri Macallan says, "Okay, we have three different types of mysteries, technically speaking..." Siri Macallan says, "We have the repertory mysteries which are the solve 'em once, and you're done." Chelsea Hill says, "Not the revolving ones, those should be the solving." Chelsea Hill nods. Siri Macallan says, "Okay." Chelsea Hill says, "But the plots, the long term ones." Chelsea Hill says, "How do others feel about that?" Siri Macallan says, "Then we have events, the ones the players have created and then the ones the GMs have created." Chelsea Hill says, "Well, the player ones are without noto anyway." Chelsea Hill says, "I mean the GM created ones." Siri Macallan says, "Actually, they are." Elise Evans says, "Player ones have noto too" Siri Macallan says, "I watched the whole of the last one... and I gave out RP bonuses left right and sideways." Chelsea Hill says, "Oh, okay." Chelsea Hill nods. Siri Macallan says, "And RP bonuses generate notoriety." Chelsea Hill says, "And that is great." Chelsea Hill says, "Yes, that is fine, but giving a reward to the person or group that solves the mystery is what creates all these accusations of hoarding or hogging clues." Siri Macallan says, "Well, that's not how it works." Siri Macallan says, "For example..." Siri Macallan says, "I kept a log of everyone who came into the ICU to either guard or visit... and if they were really RPing and not being ambulance chasers (unless that's their character) I gave a bonus." Chelsea Hill nods. Siri Macallan says, "That had nothing to do with solving anything." Siri Macallan says, "It was solely for participation." Chelsea Hill says, "Good! Then I guess I didn't have to say anything!" Chelsea Hill smiles. Siri Macallan says, "And that's how most of them work." Chelsea Hill says, "Maybe if we just let others know that." Kim Canella says, "I hope you did not penalize the ones who failed to protect Anya" Siri Macallan says, "Now, there is something I would really like to do, but I'm not sure if it would be too contraversial or not..." Siri Macallan grins at Kim Canella. Siri Macallan says, "You guys are great on guilt." Siri Macallan chuckles. Siri Macallan says, "What I would really like to do is award those players who I see going truly all out with a special bonus." Siri Macallan says, "I mean the ones who go beyond IC all the time, and really by their actions give breath to the mystery or event." Chelsea Hill says, "You mean with the mysteries?" Chelsea Hill nods. Chelsea Hill says, "That would be good." Siri Macallan says, "Now... what I want to know is how we get beyond the "I was there, how come I didn't get the special award" syndrome." Siri Macallan says, "And then having people holler GM Favortism." Siri Macallan says, "I'd like some input on that." Savannah Reynolds says, "It's too subjective as is...I don't know if you can ever get rid of that feeling of popularity contest" Arielle Drummond says, "I think no matter how you do it feeling will still get hurt." Cat Jacobs exclaims, "It would be a popularity contest probably.. but it would encourage good RP!" Brian Indiana says, "Those that get the reward should not tell they got it, and if they do, then do not reward them in the future. Leave it in the gm's hands." (Julie McCoy thinks that some peoplefeel like they are trying... and don't get recognition for it.) Chelsea Hill says, "It really has to do with maturity. We have to be able to really see that some people are really doing a great job and want to see that person rewarded." Siri Macallan says, "Like I said... this idea is loaded with pitfalls. And we, the staff, has been pondering this for the last couple of weeks. How to you recognize RPing with notoriety in such a way that you don't have to perp, but also is objective enough so that people can get RP awards without feeling like others are going to jump all over them." Siri Macallan says, "And so that we don't get hit with Favortism charges at every turn." Cat Jacobs says, "Oh Oh..I have an idea..maybe a TOP Investigators for "blah blah mystery" and open a public ballot...let tourists vote and GM's vote..and clear the ballot for every mystery.." Chelsea Hill says, "It is very difficult to do, and most suggestions would create opportunity for cheating." Julie Green says, "Why not have favorites, Siri? I mean, you're favorites would earn that spot by role playing. " Siri Macallan nods to Chelsea Hill. Siri Macallan says, "I agree." Siri Macallan says, "Julie, everyone has people they'd rather play with." Julie Green nods to Siri Macallan. Siri Macallan says, "I mean, that's natural." Siri Macallan says, "But that's not our job." Siri Macallan says, "I can indulge that when I'm in my PC, but not when I'm looking for good RP." Chelsea Hill says, "Can you have guidelines to make it a bit more objective?" Cat Jacobs says, "I think that no matter what you do..someone is always going to complain.." Siri Macallan says, "We've been drawing up guidelines for what is considered "good" RP." Siri Macallan says, "And believe me, it's been a real bear to wrestle down." Siri Macallan says, "But here's another reason why we'd like to see if we can find out how to do it objectively..." Valerie Esparza asks, "Did I miss my turn to rant?" Siri Macallan says, "Not yet, Val." Valerie Esparza giggles. Siri Macallan says, "I've sort of gone off on a tangent." Siri Macallan says, "Let me finish this other thing to toss at you all, and we'll continue on." Siri Macallan coughs. Siri Macallan says, "Okay..." Siri Macallan says, "We have been pondering, mind you only pondering, the idea of in-game RP organizations that would be open by invitation only." Siri Macallan says, "The basic requirements would be excellent RP skills, good dealings with the staff..." Chelsea Hill says, "I like the idea...at least it will be easier to identify roleplayers." Chance Nevada asks, "What's the difference with that and the awards?" Siri Macallan says, "Well... it's an RP construct..." Chelsea Hill says, "We could then roleplay within the organizations?" Siri Macallan nods to Chelsea Hill. Siri Macallan says, "Exactly." Siri Macallan exclaims, "BUT!" Siri Macallan says, "Before we can do that..." Siri Macallan says, "We have to be able to quantify what is good RP." Siri Macallan says, "And then we also have to get past the fact that some people are going to say, "He's in it, how come I'm not."" Chelsea Hill says, "but they do that now with the BCC." Siri Macallan says, "Yeah, I know." Siri Macallan coughs. Chelsea Hill says, "Can the organizations be run by players?" Jon Garfield says, "In this case, just say to sharpen your skills and come back and try again" Chelsea Hill says, "Like guilds in fantasy games." Jon Garfield says, "If I'm understanding you correctly" Siri Macallan says, "Chelsea, the only problem with that is that in GS3 the orgs have become cliques if they're player run." Chelsea Hill says, "True.." Chelsea Hill sighs. Siri Macallan says, "And we'd really like to be able to play too, you know." Siri Macallan grins. Chelsea Hill says, "They really are cliques." Cat Jacobs nods to Siri Macallan. Samantha Slyderr grins. Siri Macallan says, "And this gives us an opportunity to trot out our characters." Siri Macallan says, "For example..." Siri Macallan says, "I'm trying to figure out how to say this." Siri Macallan gets a distant look on her face as she ponders. Siri Macallan says, "They are similar to a player club in that they are member's only. But the membership would be based on RP skill, and over all good behavior. The objective of the organization would be something IC within the ongoing storyline of the game itself." Siri Macallan says, "It would allow a focus for more RP, and hopefully allow you to work with people you hadn't before... build more community." Siri Macallan says, "That's the hope." Elise Evans asks, "Any idea at this point if it would be individual character based, or account based?" Siri Macallan says, "Individual character." Siri Macallan says, "Listen, we have some players who have 8 characters..." Siri Macallan says, "Some are fleshed out and are played really well, and others simply are not." Siri Macallan says, "I don't intend for it to be a free for all." Siri Macallan says, "If a character wants in, they have to BE a character." Siri Macallan says, "Okay... I tossed that at you." Siri Macallan coughs. Siri Macallan says, "Let's go on with people." Siri Macallan asks, "Julie G?" Julie Green nods. Julie Green says, "I just wanted to make a comment on how you could show who role plays well.." Siri Macallan nods. Julie Green says, "You could have like Dean's list at the U, Agent of the month.. posted where you train." Siri Macallan says, "We had thought of that." Julie Green says, "So you see who in your profession is someone to use as a role model" Jon Garfield says, "One problem there is some people prefer to keep their profession hidden" Siri Macallan says, "I think the main question is that if I give Eve a big bonus for RPing like crazy, and she keeps getting RP bonuses, then she'll get flack from others who think they do a better job." Siri Macallan says, "If I did a roster, it would probably be something like the topscore list, just more IC." Julie Green says, "Well, when you are in school, you are compared.. in your job.. That's something that people just need to deal with" Julie Green says, "No matter what you do, People are going to complain, but the fact is, if they didn't like it that much, they wouldn't be here." Snake Silvertongue says, "How would something like that be any different than Kareoke, or a Storytelling contest, or finding perps first" Snake Silvertongue shrugs. Siri Macallan says, "Um, I know a lot of people who complain constantly, and they're still here." Siri Macallan says, "Snake, it's no different, really." Julie Green says, "I think Snake, that effort is put into all those things.. just like role play. Why not get credit for it" Snake Silvertongue says, "Games are, by nature competitive" Siri Macallan says, "But with the other contests the players or hosts decide who wins." Siri Macallan says, "For RPing, the GMs get the ultimate decision." Siri Macallan says, "And that's where the favortism and "no fair" comes in." Siri Macallan says, "Basically, there are those that don't trust us to be inpartial." Julie Green says, "and I think that's a good thing, Siri. You can guide what kind of role playing you want here by putting other people as an example." Cat Jacobs says, "I don't personally see why any GM would pick a certain player over another for such a high honor. If people think that, then they...well...shouldn't." Siri Macallan asks, "Do we say, Well, too bad for you, be that way? or do we take that into account?" Siri Macallan says, "Impartial." Siri Macallan coughs. Elise Evans says, "I'd like to see it taken into account, if only to stop them whining on comm and the list about it." Julie Green says, "Oh yeah, and about the comm..." Chelsea Hill says, "but what about the rest of us? We would like to see these things..do we have to suffer cause of the whiners?" Chelsea Hill chuckles. Siri Macallan smiles at Chelsea Hill. Julie Green says, "Remember there was going to cell phones at one point? That would get rid of a lot of the junk on the comm" Siri Macallan says, "That's the question of the day." Snake Silvertongue says, "I see your point Siri, and that seems to be the biggest difference between GMing here, as opposed to GMs in a Mainland Campaign" Snake Silvertongue smiles at Chelsea Hill. Siri Macallan nods to Julie McCoy. Siri Macallan says, "And that's another topic." Siri Macallan chuckles. Siri Macallan nods to Snake Silvertongue. Siri Macallan says, "It is. I'd never accuse my mainland GM of being biased." Siri Macallan asks, "Valerie?" Valerie Esparza smiles at Siri Macallan. Valerie Esparza says, "ok first of all..." Valerie Esparza says, "this is going to be short and sweet and OOC" Valerie Esparza grins. Siri Macallan grins. Valerie Esparza says, "I have gone from one character to another here" Valerie Esparza says, "it hasn't been easy for me" Valerie Esparza says, "but I have managed" Siri Macallan nods to Valerie Esparza. Valerie Esparza says, "they were all major characters" Valerie Esparza says, "its tough because" Valerie Esparza says, "some really think you are this character" Valerie Esparza giggles. Chelsea Hill nods to Valerie Esparza. Siri Macallan nods to Valerie Esparza. Valerie Esparza says, "I just want to say that you should take each character as they are" Valerie Esparza says, "and not have an attitude" Siri Macallan exclaims, "Amen, sista!" Valerie Esparza says, "some people hated Kitty" Siri Macallan jumps into the air and gives Valerie Esparza a triumphant high five. Valerie Esparza says, "and some hated Jackie" Valerie Esparza shrugs. Siri Macallan says, "You know..." Valerie Esparza says, "thats the end of my sermon" Valerie Esparza grins. Siri Macallan says, "It all comes down to character perception." Siri Macallan says, "And we'll go over this maybe next week, if you all want to do a character building "seminar"..." Siri Macallan says, "But... I play characters who actually dislike people who I would like in RL." Siri Macallan says, "And vice versa." Siri Macallan says, "So we all need to remember that our responses need to be filtered through our character and changed appropriately." Siri Macallan says, "That's really hard, but it's the sign of a good RPer." Siri Macallan says, "It also takes us away from the who plays whom role. Because we see every character as an individual." Siri Macallan says, "Which is why you all hear me screaming about don't let what happens on one character affect your other characters unless they would really be involved." Julie McCoy asks, "Are these character perceptions set in stone? Do GMs look for characters who learn to rp better over time?" Siri Macallan nods to Julie McCoy. Siri Macallan says, "We look." Siri Macallan says, "I mean... frankly? I've seen Ed grow a lot in the last year." Siri Macallan winks at Edward Straker. Siri Macallan says, "As an example." Julie McCoy says, "Because it seems to be a process to me" Siri Macallan says, "I don't know about RL, but IC he's stretched a bit." Siri Macallan says, "So yeah, we watch for that." Siri Macallan says, "Okay... Elise, you are up." Elise Evans says, "On the IC/OOC room idea ..." Elise Evans says, "I know I do both ... MO for me is not only a wonderful place to play and roleplay, but a place for me to keep in touch with the people I "met" while I lived in the US without exorbitant phone bills." Siri Macallan nods. Siri Macallan says, "I've done that, too." Elise Evans says, "So, yes, I am interested in other peoples RL lives" Elise Evans says, "and I share OOC info on myself with them." Elise Evans says, "I do try to keep it to just them, and not sit outside the pub sharing it with all and sundry." Elise Evans says, "But things slip out." Siri Macallan nods to Elise Evans. Elise Evans says, "I guess my comment if there were to be an area of specific OOC conversations, it would need to be more than one room." Elise Evans says, "I don't wish to share with some people my own life, any more than I want to hear what is happening in theirs." Elise Evans says, "Moving back to Jon's comment on the BCC ..." Kim Canella says, "A designated OOC room would just become a chat room" Elise Evans says, "I think being a BCC member is another opportunity for me to RP that I'm (relatively) wealthy." Elise Evans says, "I am a doctor, after all" Elise Evans asks, "And the cantina some days isn't?" Elise Evans raises an eyebrow at Kim Canella. Kim Canella says, "Of course it is" Elise Evans says, "um ... at the moment I have my tent pitched someplace in the West End" Elise Evans says, "I have tennis lessons, I get my nails done, I walk on the beach ..." Elise Evans says, "Yes, people ask me whether they can have a tennis lesson .. and where do you go .." Elise Evans says, "I don't see that the BCC makes any difference to that." Elise Evans says, "Some of my other characters skulk around back alleys and wouldn't dream of letting anyone know they have a big locker." Elise Evans says, "They try to sneak past the concierge when no-one is watching." Elise Evans grins. Cat Jacobs says, "I think if the OOC area is done properly, then it would truly help to keep things on the island IC.." Cat Jacobs says, "and will help the GM's STICK to the IC only law.." Siri Macallan says, "I think it's really what you want to do with it. The BBC is something that will be here regardless of if we like it or not, and it all just depends on how we want to RP it." Cat Jacobs says, "Another idea, you could also prevent comming from the OOC area if it comes about.." Siri Macallan says, "But it also is going to stay an IC device unlike the proposed OOC area which is not." Siri Macallan isn't sure that made sense. Snake Silvertongue asks, "What about a Cybercafe' for the OOC area? Has anyone suggested that?" Snake Silvertongue shrugs. Siri Macallan says, "We're taking any and all ideas on it, Snake." Siri Macallan says, "We have not yet reached a concensus." Siri Macallan says, "Thanks, Elise." Siri Macallan smiles. Siri Macallan asks, "Ed?" Edward Straker asks, "Considering this thing you're talking about, and assuming it's going to be something related to Morada, suppose the char involved is not interested because that is the way he is? Straker might or might not be interested if he was invited. Would he lose the benefit of the invite?" Siri Macallan asks, "So, you are asking that if Straker was approached and turned it down, if it would count against him?" Siri Macallan asks, "Or if it would mean no further invitations?" Edward Straker says, "Yeah in the area of extra noto" Siri Macallan says, "Entrance into an org isn't manditory, and we'll not think less of anyone who doesn't feel like getting involved." Siri Macallan says, "It's an IC thing after all." Edward Straker says, "If he said no he wouldn't care about further invites" Siri Macallan says, "No pressure." Siri Macallan says, "If that's the way you want to RP your character, then so be it." Edward Straker says, "Okay." Siri Macallan says, "We're not about to dictate how someone is played." Siri Macallan smiles. Siri Macallan says, "Only that you're not a snert." Edward Straker says, "I was more concerned about the benefits offered in term of award" Kim Canella recites: "I don't understand what the commotion is about OOC areas. Isn't that one use for the whisper command?"" Siri Macallan grins at Kim Canella. Siri Macallan says, "Well, yeah. But it isn't always used properly." Cat Jacobs exclaims, "I'd like to see the whisper command go back to being IC!" Snake Silvertongue asks, "Would it be too hardcore if you set up a programing tag to punish those who used OOC phrases like OOC, or AFK, or even noto, say in a room of more than 4 or 5 people?" Siri Macallan says, "And some of us actually use whisper as an IC device." Kim Canella says, "That was a whisper from a new tourist" Cat Jacobs says, "As soon as you whisper to someone they automatically ASSUME you are being OOC." Cat Jacobs says, "I hate that." Cat Jacobs scowls blackly. Siri Macallan asks, "Or Level?" Siri Macallan says, "We could, Snake. It depends on how much of a reprimand we'd want to give." Snake Silvertongue exclaims, "I know that it realy bugs me, when I am leading in the Jungle, and people start sayin 5.6K to Level!" Siri Macallan nods to Snake Silvertongue. Siri Macallan asks, "Can I have a count of hands on some issues?" Siri Macallan asks, "The first question is Monitoring for OOC discussions/actions on the PBR. Who feels strongly that we should?" Edward Straker raises his hand. Chelsea Hill raises her hand. Cat Jacobs raises her hand. Adia Dehesa raises her hand. Julie Green raises her hand. Catriona MacGowan raises her hand. Will Carpenter raises his hand. Snake Silvertongue raises his hand. Ichiko Daiumi raises her hand. Shonna McCarver raises her hand. Arielle Drummond raises her hand. Julie McCoy raises her hand. Brian Indiana raises his hand. Jean Jameison raises her hand. Armand Chascour raises his hand. Snake Silvertongue says, "Excluding newbies, of course" Savannah Reynolds raises her hand. (Jon Garfield half-raises his hand.) Armand Chascour says, "yeah newbies need help" Michael Stonecraft raises his hand. Siri Macallan asks, "Does anyone have a vote of only blatant OOC, and the emotives can stay?" Jon Garfield raises his hand. Jon Garfield stares dejectedly at the ground as he scuffs at it with his foot. Shonna McCarver shakes her head. Siri Macallan grins at Jon Garfield. Julie McCoy gives a big thumbs down! Edward Straker winces expressively. Cat Jacobs grins job Cat Jacobs coughs. Snake Silvertongue raise his hand. Ichiko Daiumi gets a distant look on her face as she ponders. Cat Jacobs grins at Jon Garfield. Chelsea Hill smiles at Jon Garfield. Siri Macallan asks, "Okay... anyone want to let it run rampant?" Siri Macallan says, "Had to ask." Siri Macallan asks, "So after so many warnings... what do we do? Drain their batteries?" Edward Straker says, "Death." Cat Jacobs says, "For like an hour.." Siri Macallan says, "Then I lose a customer." Snake Silvertongue says, "I still like the idea of a "help" channel on the comm, banish them to that maybe" Siri Macallan says, "Snake, that's a good suggestion. Let me ponder that." Siri Macallan asks, "Okay... next question. OOC area. Who is for a strictly OOC area?" Cat Jacobs raises her hand. Armand Chascour raises his hand. Edward Straker raises his hand. Catriona MacGowan grins at Cat Jacobs. Chelsea Hill raises her hand. Snake Silvertongue raise his hand. Kim Canella says, "Not me" Shonna McCarver shakes her head. Shonna McCarver says, "Nope" Cat Jacobs says, "Oh wait.." Chelsea Hill smiles at Ichiko Daiumi. Cat Jacobs says, "Only if it is away from the IC island." Kim Canella says, "We ge away with it enough in small groups" Jon Garfield says, "Yeah, like add channel 17 and make it a separate toggle so it can be either used or ignored regardless of whether you're on a certain channel or the scanner" Shonna McCarver says, "It's a waste of your time when it can be spent with more mysteries or other fun and productive things" Kim Canella says, "An OOC area would become a chat room" Siri Macallan says, "Well, that's its purpose." Chelsea Hill says, "but better they chat in there than in the IC room." Siri Macallan says, "So people would chat there and not in the game itself." Snake Silvertongue says, "Well, true Shonna, but I think separation of interests would be a good thing" Shonna McCarver says, "But if we really want to talk to each other any one of us could get AIM or something" Savannah Reynolds agrees with Snake Silvertongue. Siri Macallan says, "That's my official take on it, Shonna..." Siri Macallan shrugs. Chelsea Hill says, "There will be people who are upset if the island becomes more IC." Siri Macallan says, "But then I don't have AIM, because I'm a recluse." Siri Macallan says, "Okay, next to last question..." Siri Macallan says, "Okay... who is in favor of having a RP "fame" list. So you could see the top 20 RPers." Cat Jacobs raises her hand. Shonna McCarver raises her hand. Armand Chascour raises his hand. Will Carpenter raises his hand. Jon Garfield raises his hand. Julie McCoy gives a big thumbs down! Snake Silvertongue raises his hand. Jon Garfield says, "Only if not divided by profession though" Armand Chascour says, "but...dont do it by profession, Jon's right" Ichiko Daiumi raises her hand. Shonna McCarver nods to Jon Garfield. Will Carpenter seems to agree! Jean Jameison raises her hand. Armand Chascour says, "some RP that as a secret" Siri Macallan says, "Not divided by profession." Julie McCoy says, "It might create resentment." Shonna McCarver says, "But the list would give new people or bad roleplayers an idea of who to watch" Julie McCoy says, "It's fairly obvious who the good rpers are." Jon Garfield says, "Well, a little competition just might be the incentive some of the people need" Jon Garfield shrugs. Catriona MacGowan asks, "Wouldna it be hard to be on the list if you're on a bit less then others?" Siri Macallan asks, "Yes, but how is that different than the TOPSCORE list?" Julie McCoy says, "I just don't think it'll do anything to add to the feeling of community here" Siri Macallan says, "That's a valid concern, Julie." Jon Garfield says, "Because the topscore is totally objective" Armand Chascour says, "since I care about RP i'd like to know what counts" Chelsea Hill says, "I think it would be better to do something like that best website thing...just list the good roleplayers and a brief description." Chelsea Hill says, "No order or rank." Siri Macallan says, "That's still objective." Armand Chascour says, "right, just post 20 names, not with ranks" Cat Jacobs says, "Just top 20..no order.." Siri Macallan says, "Okay, so how do we let everyone know who our really great RPers are and that we're pround of them." Siri Macallan says, "Once we have a list of it, we'll open that for discussion." Siri Macallan says, "Okay... back on track." Siri Macallan asks, "Who is against the idea of an RP fame list?" Sara McGyver raises her hand. Julie McCoy raises her hand. Arielle Drummond raises her hand. Catriona MacGowan raises her hand. Brian Indiana raises his hand. Siri Macallan says, "Okay..." Savannah Reynolds raises her hand. Siri Macallan says, "Last question." Siri Macallan asks, "Who thinks that having an GM run RP organization whose membership is by invitation only is a good idea?" Armand Chascour raises his hand. Chelsea Hill raises her hand. Catriona MacGowan raises her hand. Will Carpenter raises his hand. Savannah Reynolds raises her hand. Cat Jacobs raises her hand. Shonna McCarver raises her hand. Snake Silvertongue raises his hand. Jean Jameison raises her hand. Arielle Drummond raises her hand. Ichiko Daiumi raises her hand. Julian Thorn raises his hand. Edward Straker raises his hand. Adia Dehesa raises her hand. Siri Macallan asks, "Who is against it?" Cat Jacobs glances around. Siri Macallan grins. Julie McCoy raises her hand. Siri Macallan says, "I know some GMs who will be happy to hear that result." Siri Macallan asks, "That's okay. Why don't you like the idea?" Julie McCoy says, "I just think it's another thing to separate people " Julie McCoy says, "Sort of classist" Siri Macallan asks, "Why?" Siri Macallan says, "It's available to anyone who is willing to work at RPing." Julie McCoy says, "Because it's invite only" Chelsea Hill says, "It can also bring people together who share a common interest." Julie McCoy says, "If it's open to anyone who's interested in RPing, that's fine" Snake Silvertongue says, "Maybe some characters could be Deputized or something, especially for mysteries. Maybe after they solve at least one revolving mystery or something" Julie McCoy says, "But invitation only is not a good thing." Siri Macallan says, "No, who is willing to WORK at RPing." Siri Macallan says, "Interest is not enough." Julie McCoy says, "That's fine.. the invitation only factor is what I have a prob with" Armand Chascour says, "i think actually, the ones who are good at RP stand out anyhow" Chelsea Hill says, "Siri, is there anyway to make the invitations based on how much roleplaying noto a person has?" Julie McCoy says, "This island has enough cliques.. why make up more" Siri Macallan says, "Well, yeah, Chelsea... which is why I brought up the Fame list." Julie McCoy says, "I think if you give out more noto for rping bonuses and continue to reward positive behavior, that's enough" Chelsea Hill says, "Doesn't have to be easy..the noto required could be high." Julie McCoy says, "We don't have enough people on the island to make it really competitive either" Siri Macallan says, "It's not a competition." Julie McCoy says, "Well, everyone else here is making it sound that way, Siri" Siri Macallan says, "I mean, you don't even have to join." Siri Macallan asks, "Let me clarify, please?" Siri Macallan says, "There are several reasons why we thought up both the RP fame list and the idea behind player orgs..." Siri Macallan says, "Um, Julie..." Siri Macallan says, "The really excellent RPers aren't cliquish." Siri Macallan says, "Not always, at least." Siri Macallan says, "I know a couple who are." Siri Macallan says, "Just to be fair." Siri Macallan says, "The main reason we'd like to do this is that it would be provide a long term framework for RPing..." Siri Macallan says, "The organization is designed to reward and encourage RP." Siri Macallan says, "Because frankly, the players can't keep personalities and cliques out of it." Siri Macallan says, "And we have the CMC... and any other player org you all want to try to start up." Siri Macallan says, "What I really think is that we need to find ways that promote RPing and reward it in a fair manner." Siri Macallan says, "And I think it's only right that those who do are recognized for it." Siri Macallan says, "The trick is how to do that without making it into an elitist or favortism thing." Siri Macallan asks, "Larry?" Larry Robison asks, "Yes?" Siri Macallan asks, "You're new, aren't you?" Siri Macallan says, "Relatively speaking." Larry Robison says, "yes, very new. Only my third day exploring the isle" Larry Robison blushes a nice shade of off-pink. Siri Macallan asks, "I don't mean to put you on the spot, but what is your take on all of this?" Siri Macallan smiles. Siri Macallan says, "You can plead the 5th if you want." Larry Robison says, "well, to be completely honest, it seems very silly" Larry Robison ducks his head. Siri Macallan says, "That's okay, speak your mind." Siri Macallan smiles. Larry Robison says, "after all...Modus is listed under a role-playing game" Larry Robison asks, "why should it be rewarded?" Siri Macallan says, "Because in all actuality, it has been rare." Elise Evans asks, "Because you get rewarded for being a good hunter .. in a roleplaying game .. why not be rewarded for the roleplay?" Edward Straker says, "In any game people play either for fun or to win. " Siri Macallan says, "Or both." Jeanie Grey-Summers says, "you cant applaud someone for doing good RPing, you break the RP while you do it" Eve Roquelaure says, "When someone is a particularly good RPer, Jeanie, they tend to feel nostalgic, as if they're remembering their roots, re-establishing who they are." Armand Chascour asks, "Siri? will you get us a list of RP basics when you have them together?" Siri Macallan nods to Armand Chascour. Siri Macallan says, "As in what is good and what is not..." Siri Macallan asks, "Or how to?" Cat Jacobs says, "and information about the org too, Siri." Chelsea Hill says, "Siri, I am collecting a lot of info off other websites regarding roleplaying. Some of it is quite good." Siri Macallan says, "Um, the org won't have any info put out." Siri Macallan says, "We'll either do it, or not." Siri Macallan says, "Chelsea, I'd love to see it if you have time to pass it on." Larry Robison says, "I have played another rping game for 2 years now" Siri Macallan says, "MO-SIRI@play.net" Siri Macallan smiles at Larry Robison. Larry Robison says, "and in that game...." Chelsea Hill says, "I am collecting it on a webpage and will pass it to you as soon as I get it together." Larry Robison says, "a newbie can gain points by going to talk to an elder npc person of the town" Larry Robison says, "in that conversation...." Larry Robison says, "that elder informs them of how to act, talk, etc..." Larry Robison says, "at the end of the conversation....the newbie is given a quiz" Julie Green says, "Yeah, At the Thrak in GS. He's a dude. He tells it all and then tests you on it." Siri Macallan says, "Hmm." Larry Robison says, "and ONLY gets the points if they answer All the questions correctly." Jon Garfield says, "Kind of like the current tutorial, except for RP instead of technical basics" Armand Chascour says, "add a etiqutte expert to the isle...charge for an interview" Larry Robison says, "and then, if that newbie chooses to still be ooc...." Larry Robison says, "well, the town folk take care of it" Larry Robison chuckles. Edward Straker says, "Mitzi. She's snotty." Jon Garfield says, "Should be in an office like training or in the beginning along with the current tutorial" Siri Macallan flails her arms about. Siri Macallan asks, "Do you know how much work you're making for me??" Siri Macallan giggles. Siri Macallan says, "Okay. Time for me to head out too." Elise Evans says, "Thanks Siri" Snake Silvertongue exclaims, "Thanks a ton, Siri!" Miranda Myles says, "Thanks for your time Siri." Siri Macallan says, "Thank YOU." Siri Macallan waves. Siri Macallan slips quietly into the shadows.
