CELEBRATING THE WORKS OF GEORGE MACDONALD
Wingfold is a literary quarterly devoted to the works of the Victorian author
George MacDonald (1824-1905). Each issue restores rare material by and about
the author which has never been published in books.
Back issues available through 1993 contain previously unpublished MacDonald
stories and poems from the Yale and Harvard collections, recorded lectures and
sermons from Victorian publications, interviews with MacDonald, articles
written by his friends, letters from the MacDonald family, and much more.
Contemporary articles on MacDonald-related topics are also featured. Each
issue of Wingfold reprints beautiful period illustrations, with profiles on the
artists and their
relation to MacDonald.
Restored George MacDonald material in the 2006 issues of Wingfold will include:
-
The first reprints of newspaper reports on George MacDonald's remarkable lectures devoted to Tennyson's In Memoriam and Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice.
- A MacDonald sermon report in each issue, including a discourse on finding faith that was contrasted with a letter from Charles Darwin on this topic.
- Reminiscences on MacDonald's early ministries at Arundel and Bolton, featuring a lengthy poem dated from that era which was not reprinted in Poetical Works.
- Our fall special edition will profile one of MacDonald's speaking tours of the United Kingdom, with reports on lectures and sermons given in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.
As always, beautiful reprinted illustrations from MacDonald's works will
also be featured.
