George MacDonald: Beautiful Thoughts
Edited by
Barbara Amell
George MacDonald (1824-1905) was one of the most important and influential
writers of the 19th century.
Most of his books have recently been reprinted; however, his anthology
Beautiful Thoughts has remained unavailable for over a century.
First published in 1895, the book was heralded in the press for its
"helpfulness as a spiritual companion"; only two US libraries are currently
listed in possession of the volume.
Beautiful Thoughts by George MacDonald contains the original 365 quotations
from the author's fiction, theology, and poetical works chosen by Elizabeth W.
Dougall, MacDonald's dedication and an Elliot & Fry photograph of MacDonald.
In addition to the original contents, this collection also contains an 1895
review of the anthology, a 1905 biographical tribute to MacDonald by his friend
W. Garrett Horder, and an introduction by Barbara Amell.
