This one was pretty simple. While looking through the brochures on GMC Jimmy options, I noticed that you could get them with tow hooks installed. When you got that, the air dam under the front bumper was notched to get access to them without wrecking the dam.
Fair enough, but the SLT model we bought didn't have them, and I really didn't want the notches in my air dam, either. But I DID want to be able to drag the thing out of a ditch without requiring special harnesses or other attachments. I got a pair of tow hooks, which came with bolts, washers, lock washers, and nut plates (a piece of sheet metal about 1/4" thick with two threaded holes in them). The front forks of the frame already had the mounting holes in them.
All I needed to do was to slip the nut plates into
the box of the frame forks, put a bolt through the hook and the frame, and
screw it into the nut plate. The second bolt is always tougher than
the first, because you don't have room for your finger in the frame box to
align the second hole! It took a few tries, but both tow hooks are
installed and they won't come loose.
I decided not to notch the air dam. If I really need to use the hooks, and that damages the air dam, I'll deal with it then.
Probably nothing. This went in as easily as if I'd done it before. It took about half an hour.
