Dear Parent/Guardian:
I would like to welcome your student to my class this year. I am making the commitment to help each student maximize his/her potential in math. I expect that you and your student will join me in this commitment.
Trig/Pre-calc is the last high school course that prepares students for higher mathematical studies, especially Calculus, using a traditional approach. An emphasis will be placed on the fundamentals of Algebra and Trigonometry, and graphing calculators will be used extensively. If at all possible, you MUST invest in a TI-83 Plus or TI-83 calculator, since these are the ones used in our Calculus course, and will be suitable for use in college as well.
As a parent, you can be a key source of motivation and support for your student. Monitor their work, and if your student is not progressing satisfactorily, you can encourage her/him to seek help. Tutoring is available from myself, peer tutors and outside agencies. For more information on how to monitor your student's progress, see the LHHS website, under Guidance, Homework. http://lahabra.seniorhigh.net/
Because mathematics is not a spectator sport, the student should commit to being an active participant during class. S/he needs to:
The notebook should fulfill these requirements:
Students will also be using a variety of instructional materials, sometimes including graphic calculators, for classroom use only. Please understand that a fine will be imposed for materials that are lost or damaged.
I look forward to working with you and your student. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me through the school office at 562-905-0900. After you review the policies below, please sign in the place provided and return to the teacher to receive homework points.

In the event of an excused absence, it is the student’s responsibility to make up any work missed. The student has as many days to make up the work as s/he was absent. In extraordinary cases, other arrangements can be made between myself and the student.
When you and/or the student know in advance that an absence will fall on a test day, notify me at least a week in advance, or as soon as the conflict is known. The student and I will schedule their test accordingly.
