Best Friends

The term – Best Friends –

brings to mind little girls

giggling behind their hands in church

or teenagers spending hours on the phone.

And although I do like to giggle with you

and spend hours on the phone,

our relationship is so much richer

than that of children.

You have become so important to my life.

Your wisdom guides me

when I am confused.

Your deep laugh delights

when I am happy.

Your love fills me

when I feel empty.

Your friendship sustains me

when I am lonely.

And so even though we are adults

I know that you

are my Best Friend.
