Our non-profit group was founded in January 1990, originally known as Holly Street Block Garden Group. We were founded by Bettye Ferguson and a few youth volunteers of the neighborhood. For the past twelve years, our group has joined together with the Youth and Senior Citizens in revitalizing, and educating our community with Agricultural Techniques, General Gardening/Landscaping, and the enrichment of History. After forming our group, we joined the "Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's - Philadelphia Green", and the "Penn State Extension of the Horticultural Society". Together they've shared our dream also adopted our plan. In 1999 our State Representative, Mike Horsey representing the "190th" Legislative District, also aided in our efforts by submitting our groups name to the "Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Community and Economic Development" grant division. Noting our continuing efforts to strive to make a difference in our vastly growing community. "Our mission is enrich the minds of our neighborhood youth by offering training, and hands on experience in the "Landscaping Entreprenuership", and "Money Management" field and to Share Our Harvest with our neighbors; and in addition it's our objective to enrich their minds with History through our "Literary Program". Adding that each year we hold an "History Essay Contest" and the winners are rewarded with a trip or a gift certificate or cash prize, and a Certificate of Achievement. (Contestants must be between 8 - 17 years of age, and live in the Belmont Community). Contest deadlines are on the last August of each year.
