The Preble family

In April or May of 2000, I met a friend at A. B. "Tom" Sawyer Park to ride our bikes together.  As I entered the parking lot, I saw a black BikeE that was unfamiliar to me.  At the time, there were very few BikeEs in the area, so I stopped and introduced myself.  The owner of the BikeE turned out to be one Larry Preble, who had recently bought the bike online.  He had just learned that there was a dealer in town, and was hoping to visit that dealer later in the day.  Since it was a Sunday, I had to tell him that "We are closed on Sunday.  I work there, and am the primary reason the store carries recumbents at all."  So began a delightful friendship with the fine folks that are the Preble family!  They have been with us on several rides since that day, and I at least have always enjoyed their company.  All of the pictures shown here have been provided by Larry.

Here's a shot I took of Larry, with his camera.  We were on Rose Island Road, at the intersection with U.S. 42.  I love the fall colors behind him!  This was taken a week after the 2002 rally.

Larry's wife, Peggy, and their son, Ricky, both enjoy riding the various recumbent bikes owned by the Prebles.  Larry provided a couple of great shots showing Rick and Peggy on their BikeE E2, one of which proves that a determined youngster can captain a tandem, even if the stoker is his nervous mom!

Larry was the only recumbenteer to participate in the inaugural Old Kentucky Home Tour Pottershop Century Time Trial (or whatever the official name was).  It was not a big surprise that he won his class, as Larry is a strong rider!  The bike is his Lightning R-84, one of the lighter production bikes on the market.

Larry Preble periodically updates some space on his own web site with pictures of recumbents and their keepers.  Have a look often!
