One thing that hunters all long for, A great retrieving Labrador! To run and fetch their birds for them These dogs are great 'cause they can swim! Don't even try to borrow one! To buy one is a tidy sum. To raise one can take quite awhile, But God can give one with a smile. It happened to me just that way And looking back, I'm glad to say, God sent me a retriever . . . true, But he's a great duck caller, too! His name is David--he's my son And we've had many years of fun. Hunting the coast and prairie, too, His hunting 'savvy' topped by few. He's walked and waded many a mile But always does it with a smile To get my duck or goose for me, Or bring his back for me to see! When he lines up where it went down, You can bet the bird will be found! God-given sense of keen eyesight That leads him to the downed bird's site. Though we may, sometimes, razz and tease How he retrieves the ducks and geese. There is one thing we must confess The guy is simply--'Relentless!' BACK Back to "Lessons Learned in a Duck Blind" |
