THE LITTLE NEEDS IN LIFE

He climbed into my lap and hugged my neck;
A great relationship 'tween him and me.
I'd finally gained his confidence and trust,
'Twas very, very plain for me to see!

He had a special need just to be held;
To climb into a safe, secure domain.
He knew what my response to him would be,
And knew there was no way I would refrain.

He held onto a book about a bear;
The special one they call Winnie the Pooh.
I knew we wouldn't finish it this time,
We never have read it the whole way through!

He sat so still as I read him the words.
His eyes scanned every picture on each page.
And as he heard an old familar phrase,
I watched his little mind quickly engage.

He was a child of few words, plain to see.
I knew he wouldn't be there very long.
When, sure enough, he got what he came for,
He climbed down from my lap and he was gone!

Did not take long for his need to be met!
Just one short minute's time and he was through.
And little did my grandson, Aiden, know,
That he had met a need in my life, too!
