Poems About Camping

SOUND ADVICE!
A Preamble to Camping

Some say that camping's a real 'bonding' time,
And, with that, I surely agree.
But if you've never been camping before
You won't understand, believe me!

First, rent a cheap camper, experiment,
Before you invest heavily,
In RV's, habachis and sleeping bags,
And take this advice seriously!

Your patience will soon be tested;
Endurance stretched way past the limit!
Your marriage may be in jeopardy
And your kids will contribute to it.

Now, if you have some like we've had,
Disastrous experiences, not 'hip!'
Your family will be much closer, believe me,
And so will your next camping trip!

Bill Upchurch

"We enjoyed as much as we could stand!"

Our family was not into camping very long, but we squeezed as much as we could out of those three years and three trips!

After telling our tales year after year, we were encouraged to write a book.  I chose to put them in light verse rhyme and meter.  The results, "A Farewell to Camping"
was written recounting these hilarious events in Big Bend National Park, Texas, Lake Livingston, Texas, and rugged, beautiful, scenic Colorado!

I promise you I did not make these up!  They all happened just as they are written.  I finally realized what the statement meant, "If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all!"  Hope you enjoy them!
