You've waited 364 days-- Opening day of teal season! You're all excited before crack of dawn And for a very good reason! So comfortable in your favorite duck blind, Decoys all set out and ready. You load three shells in your trusty shotgun And hold it so tight and steady! You sense those birds will be coming real soon. "Oh," you say, "what a tasty meal! You cock your ear and you listen real good For the 'whooshing' wings of the teal! I'll tell you right now, there's nothing like it, You'll hear them before you can see! They're so fast, and can quickly get by you, So fully alert you must be! Most times, a large swarming, moving shadow In the sky just before sunrise! And you'd better be quick and ready; They will take you by such surprise! They're always the very early comers And seldom, a single or two. They most usually come in 'squadrons' and Only one pass they'll make for you! You must be set and ready to take them Just trust me, man--don't hesitate! 'Cause they'll be gone as quick as they got there... Your efforts will be too late! There's been some times I've gotten in trouble Because of not being alert! I was not ready ... the evil one came, To tempt me--or cause me some hurt! God wants each of us to stay ready! Satan's roar is worse than his bite! So, always--always be on the alert!
