THE SEAGULL

While walking down a sandy beach
One chilly winter's day,
I noticed in the foaming surf,
Seagulls, pecking away!

Was feeling sorry for myself
And just a little down...
The sad face I was wearing, yes,
Had turned into a frown.

I watched those seagulls search for food,
They did not come and beg.
And then I noticed one seagull,
It had only one leg!

He hopped along so gracefully
With all the other birds.
Emotions that I felt for him
Could not be put in words.

He said, "You musn't pity me
For having just one limb.
I still can fly and soar so high,
Yes, even float and swim!"

I watched him balance perfectly,
No wobble, lean or fall.
I hardly even noticed that he
Had one leg at all!

"I've compensated easily from two
Legs to just one.
I will not let it bother me
And rob me of my fun!"

"Why dwell on something you can't change,
And say, 'Life is unfair?'
I choose to make the best of it,
Not wallow in dispair!"

"I'd rather have one leg than two,
Tho limits it may bring,
Than boast of two strong, healthy legs,
And only have one wing."

Aiden, you'll find things in life
Worse than a missing part,
But life will never get you down,
With Jesus in your heart!
