WHAT WOULD I DO WITHOUT HER?

We met years ago, on a blind date you know,
Planned by friends, and in our best interest.
Something so right, was begun on that night,
A journey that's not yet completed!

She was not very loud, but stood out in that crowd,
At the Homecoming ball game that evening.
I kept watching her smile, and after a while,
A friendship developed long distance.

It was an uphill climb, rocky sometimes,
My behavior it was disappointing.
But she gave me a chance, to begin a romance,
Forever grateful, I'll be, to her for it.

We became man and wife, and what changed my life,
Was her love, ever so faithful.
We established a home, and before very long,
we'd had five years of slight disappointment.

The years slowly passed--the frustration did last,
No child, to our union, was added.
But we prayed, nonetheless, for those children, and yes,
The first one we drove across Texas for.

Adopted was he, chosen so carefully,
By the Father to whom we had prayed.
The second one came from Ann's  womb, just the same,
We loved her as much as the first!

It's been thirty-two years, and there've been many tears,
We have both shed them freely sometimes.
But speaking for me, she's been there willingly,
By my side and she never has wavered!

She's my joy so true, my encouragement, too,
My lover, my friend, my prayer partner.
I can't do without her, I'd be lost without power,
She's the strength I can always depend on.

Steady as a rock, timely as a clock,
She always has a straight answer.
If I make a decision, and no input she's given,
I'm the loser because of her wisdom.

The world's best teacher, with a unique feature,
A dry sense of humor has she.
Many lives she has touched, and they have gained much.
The world will be better because of her.

If you give her a grade, as a mom and a mate,
She will score much higher than any.
An A-plus by me, and our kids will agree,
She's challenged us all to do plenty!

But there's one thing today, that I want to say,
In addition to 'I'll love you forever.'
It's that special phrase, that I want to raise,
'Happy Birthday!' to my precious wife!
