Special note: A tremendous amount of research time and effort by John B. Colligan and Terry L. Corbett has resulted in the material presented here to the interested researcher concerning New Mexico families living in the El Paso del Norte area during the latter part of the 1700s. There has been a tendency to neglect the study of these families as part of New Mexico's colonial era. In addition, it is important to know that there were individuals and families that came from the El Paso region that settled in northern New Mexico, as well as people of the north that settled in the El Paso del Norte area. Colligan and Corbett now make their careful analysis of numerous records in comparison with the census records of 1788 and 1790 available to the interested public.

A
Guide to the 1788 and 1790 Censuses of El Paso del Norte Arranged Alphabetically and Listed to Indicate Possible Family GroupingsResearched and Prepared by
John B. Colligan and Terry L. Corbett
We have combined the 1788 and 1790 censuses of El Paso del Norte in order to compare households. The information has been organized alphabetically by the name of the head of household. The spelling of these names have been standardized to conform to that used by Fray Angélico Chávez in his Origins of New Mexico Families. An asterisk (*) after bold face name indicates uncertainty that both entries are the same person. Transcription of bold face names has been standardized. The larger typeface duplicates the actual census document enumeration along with a parenthetical notation of the census year and the household number in the original document. The smaller typeface indicates an annotation supplied by the editors from various sources. The sources and the abbreviations employed to indicate them are:
