Orcasitas, D. Jose de: Español, European, native of Balmaceda in the vassalage of Biscay, age 80 years, occupation farmer, married to Da Juana Telles Xiron, Española, native of Paso, age 66 years, and their female Indian servant, 18. (1788-1)

DM at El Paso, 1 Oct. 1736 for José de Horcasitas, native of Valmaseda, Spain, son of Juan de Horcasitas and María de Talledo, natives of Spain, and Juana Telles Girón, citizen of El Paso daughter of José Telles Girón and Magdalena García, deceased, españoles and natives of New Mexico. An impediment was raised by Capt. Alonso Victores Rubín de Celis, who said he had heard in Chihuahua that Horcasitas had married in Mexico City. Horcasitas presented witnesses who had known him in the capital, among them the men that Rubín de Celis claimed to have heard in the home of José de Terán regarding the Horcasitas marriage in Mexico City. Witness Domingo Gómez stated he had known Horcasitas for eleven years, the first five in the house where the witness lived in Mexico City. He said he and Horcasitas renewed their friendship later in Chihuahua, and in all that time he had never heard that Horcasitas had married. Witness José de la Llana stated he had known Horcasitas for eleven years, during which time he had never married, that he had met him in Mexico City when he was eleven or twelve. )CAT 2: 5 ff, and summarized in Rick Hendricks, El Valle Bajo, p. 124-25.)

At NSG on 30 Oct. 1736, don Joseph Horcasitas, legitimate son of Juan Horcasitas and doña María "Octhelledo" [Talledo], married Juana Telles Xirón, legitimate daughter of Joseph Telles Xirón and Magdalena García, deceased. (Magdaleno, 8)

At El Paso on 26 Sept. 1781, Manuel de la Torre executed a power to make a will to his wife, Juana Antonia de Horcasitas. De la Torre was a native of Lugo, Galicía, Spain, and El Paso citizen. His wife was the daughter of José de Horcasitas, a Castile native, and Juana Téllez Girón; their children were José, Ramona and Manuela. Then on 13 Sept. 1781-28 Nov. 1785, Juana Antonia de Horcasitas put into effect her late husband's power of attorney to make his will, as he died on 5 Aug. De la Torre and Horacsitas married at El Paso on 3 Oct. 1762, and Horcasitas was about to marry Ramón Ferreiro, first alférez of the presidio of San Carlos and paymaster of the presidio of San Elceario. A son of this couple had his own DM at Paso on 23 Nov. 1767 when Joseph Ramón Orcasitas, native of Paso, legitimate son of don Jph Orcasitas and doña Juana Tellez Xirón, citizens of Paso, and doña Juliana Colmenero, legitimate daughter of don Pedro Ángel Colmenero and doña Paula Alcalá, citizen of Paso. Bride's age noted as "diez y _". (EPPL Callero Collection, Paso Marriages 1715-1769) Ramón Horcasitas and Juliana Colmenera were married at NSG on 26 Nov. 1767. (Magdaleno, p. 76)

DM at NSG on 17 Nov. 1778 for don Christóbal María Córdova, español, lieutenant at the presidio of Carrizal, legitimate son of Eusevio de Córdova, deceased, and Paula Rodríguez, and doña Feliciana de Orcasitas, 20, españnola from the pueblo of Paso, legitimate daughter of don Joseph de Orcasitas and doña Juana Telles Xirón, españoles and citizens of Paso. Don Christóbal de Córdova, from the ciudad of Los Ángeles de la Puebla, Teniente of the Presidio del Carrizal, son of don Eusebio de Córdova and doña Paula Minges, married at NSG on 4 Nov. 1778 doña Feliciana Orcasitas, daughter of don José Orcasitas and doña Juana Telles Xirón.

Joseph Gervacio, son of Francisco Ortega and Isavel Padilla was baptized at NSG on 20 June 1760, born on the 19th. Siblings baptized there were Maria Victoria on 24 Dec 1761, b 21st, and Francisco Xavier, on 5 Dec 1763, b 2nd. (JCA, r 5)

A sister of Francisco Javier Ortega is found in the DM at NSG on 6 Sept. 1792 for José María Santos Rivera, 25, native and citizen of Paso, legitimate son of Juan Pedro Rivera and María Bonifacia Torres, deceased, and Dominga Padilla, 23, native and citizen of Paso, legitimate daughter of Francisco Xavier Ortega and Isabel Padilla.

A brother of Francisco Javier is found in the DM at NSG on 6 Mar. 1765 for Juan de Ortega, legitimate son of Gregorio de Hortega and Antonia Carbajal, widower from his first marriage to Gertrudis Herrera (legitimate daughter of Juan de Herrera and María Martínes), all Paso citizens, and Dominga Luzero, 24, natural daughter of Crespín Luzero, also Paso citizens. Manuel was married to María Antonia Samano by whom he had as children: Juan Antonio, Pascual, Luisa, Gertrudis and Josefa. They were to be allowed to marry on condition that they leave the pueblo with his military company, but the groom could not arrange it, and when he did leave the pueblo he learned that Nicolás Durán pretended to marry Ubalda who had given her word to marry Juan Antonio. (ELPP Callero Collection) Ubalda is found in the DM at NSG on 2 July 1768 for Nicolás Durán, legitimate son of Jhp. Durán, deceased, and Rosa Padilla, españoles, citizen of Paso, and Ubalda, widow of Marcos Antonio, Indios of the doctrine, legitimate daughter of Ambrosio, deceased, and María Asumpción, Indios of the doctrine at the Paso mission. Ubalda's mother, María Asumpción, testified that Ubalda was the daughter of her cousin Xpbl. Lucero, and Rosa Padilla responded that this was of no importance as people who are related often marry, but she had decided that she had to clear her conscience by reporting the relationship. Her age was 43. Antonio María Provencio was the only child of Antonio Cayetano Provencio and Lorenza Lucero as noted in Antonio Cayetano's will made at El Paso on 6 Feb. 1770. ("Wills from El Paso del Norte, 1754-1817," by Rick Hendricks,Nuestras Raíces 7:2, Summer, 1995, p. 84 from Juarez Municipal Archives, UTEP microfilm, r. 9, bk 1, 1764, f. 11-16.) In the will El Paso citizen Antonio Cayetano stated he was the son of Manuel Bernabé Provencio and Rosa Téllez Girón of El Paso, that he had married Lorenza Lucero, daughter of Miguel Lucero and Ana Valencia of El Paso.

A dispensation was granted by the bishop at Durango on 12 Oct. 1802 subject to the banns being proclaimed three times with no additional impediment raised. Baptismal certificates provided stated that on 2 Nov. 1781, Marcelo José, born 20 October, legitimate son of Juan Carlos Provencio and Tomasa Cedillo was baptized with don Juan José Grandillas and his wife, doña Guadalupe Márquez as padrinos. On 28 April 1783 at Paso, day old Anastacia Gertrudis, legitimate daughter of Francisco Baldizán and Ana Provencio was baptized with Juan Antonio García and Clara Zeballos as padrinos.
