Permission to marry had been received from the groom's superior officer. The couple were said to be related in the third with fourth degree of affinity and needed a dispensation.. Vicenta Telles was described by José García as an orphan from her deceased father, while her mother was poor and could not support her, so that she had to look to a brother-in-law for material assistance, which was one of the motives she had for wishing to marry a person of equal social stature so that they could maintain the purity of blood current in the family. She had lived in Paso since birth but two years ago went to Santa Fe to be close to some help.
A genealogical tree demonstrated the relationship of the second with fourth degree of consanguinity:
Trunk Trunk
don Lázaro Garzía don Calletano Garsía
don José Garzía don Juan Antonio Garsía
doña Rosalía Garzía doña Guadalupe Garzía
doña Vicenta Telles.
A separate and later DM related to this marriage was commenced at Santa Fe on 28 March 1810 based on a separate petition from José García, now a Cavo First Class, to marry Vicenta Telles, who at that date was called a citizen of Paso. The same genealogical tree was enclosed, and was now headed by the word "Hermanos," thus clarifying that Lázaro García and Francisco García were borthers. José García explained that the dispensation he had received had been lost, thus necessitating this second petition. (1st DM in AHAD 364: 577-580; 2nd DM AHAD 365: 476-83) (Magdaleno, 18 gives the bride's name as Victoria vs. Vicenta.)
