Descent from the Ha-Levi Family of Burgos, Spain, to the Present

The Ha-Levi were a Jewish family that came from the kingdom of Aragón and settled in the City of Burgos in the Kingdom of León in the early to mid 14th century. A line of decent can be traced from the Ha-Levi to doña Catalina de Salazar, mother of don Juan de Oñate and doña Magdalena de Mendoza.

Doña Magdalena de Mendoza was the wife of don Vicente de Zaldívar y Oñate, a cousin of don Juan de Oñate. Doña Magdalena became the wife of don Juan de Guerra y Reza, the first lieutenant adelantado of the Oñate expedition in to New Mexico. This couple had a son named don Vicente de Zaldívar who settled in Monterrey, Nuevo León, and was married with doña María de Sosa Faria.

Don Vicente de Zaldívar and doña María de Sosa Faria are among the most common ancestors for people with family roots in the colonial kingdoms of Nuevo León and Nuevo Santander. The links on this web page illustrate several of great many lines of descent to the present.
