New Mexico Colonial Patriots and the

National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution

[Links to the names of New Mexico Patriots, 1779-1783, is found below]

The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution is actively encouraging application of membership by males who are descended of a New Mexico Colonial Patriot who served in the Spanish military between 1779 - 1783 when Spain was at war with England. Links to the complete list of verified New Mexico Patriots are provided below. The same list will also be published in Chapter 6 of Granville W. Hough and N. C. Hough's forthcoming publication, "Spain's New Mexico Patriots During its 1779-1783 War with England - During the American Revolution." This chapter includes contributions from Charles D. Martínez y Vigil, first descendant of a New Mexico soldier to join the SAR. Military service for each of the persons listed on the related pages of this web site and in the book has been documented, and male descendants age 18 or over of any one of these soldiers can join the SAR.

On September 25, 1999, Charles Martínez y Vigil became the first Hispano New Mexican to be inducted into the SAR based on his proven descendancy from Francisco Martín Torres, a soldier of the Santa Fe Presidio from 1779 to 1798.
