[PIv4 Screen] - [PIv5 Screen] - [Timed out Message]

PI versions three and higher include an inactivity timer as a feature. Activity while connected to PI is:
- Sending and receiving data via your modem.
(Automated checking for new mail does not count as activity.)
(Some reports indicate that some types of data transfer like irc, outside a browser or with a browser not running may not be recognized by the timer.)
- Using the mouse
- Using the keyboard

If there is any such activity while connected to PI, the timer is reset.
If there is no such activity while connected to PI, disconnection takes place.

The amount of real life time that can pass without activity occurring is 18 minutes, after which the PI software will display a dialogue screen for 2 minutes that gives you the opportunity to click a button to   stay connected, disconnect, OR   ignore and be disconnected. Should the PIv5 two minute disconnect dialogue expire, a timed out message will display.

The appearance of the PI Inactivity Timer disconnect dialogues for PIv4 and PIv5 are below. If your connection to PI is lost (that is, you are disconnected) and one of the following screens is not displayed, then the disconnect was due to something other than the PI inactivity timer.

There is a FAQ available to help those suffering unexpected disconnects.
Please see   Frequent Disconnects:  should this apply to you.
