MANY MEMBERS -- ONE BODY

I Corinthians 12:20

PAUL DECLARED THIS IDEAL to a church already divided. All segments otherwise in our eyes: talents, age, economics, all else, all are one in Christ Jesus. This is not easy, for we view interaction and fellowship on these criteria.

WE HAVE A SEGMENTED CONCEPT of the body of Christ. In our heart and attitude, we become identified with a single group, work, or project, and blind ourselves to the whole body and our relationship to it. We don’t see the church as a whole, nor ourselves as a part of the whole.

SO WHEN OUR GROUP IS NOT SERVED as we wish, or our pet project is not supported, we withhold our efforts, even our contribution, and we cease to attend the services we disapprove. We might even quit altogether.

THE CHURCH IS THE BODY OF CHRIST, all of us! Even the local church is more than so many people who live in a given community. Their very collective existence is an identity.

“WE ARE MEMBERS ONE OF ANOTHER” (Eph. 4:25) Being so, God wills that the whole body function together in smooth running order toward a common goal, “which every part supplieth.” (Eph. 4:16)
