Note: Robert and Susan Catlow were married 11th October 1847 at the Parochial
Chapel in Colne, Lancashire.
Robert and Susan left England in 9th November 1848 on the ship "Francis
Ridley" with their children Peter, Martha and George Catlow (Susan's
son). They arrived at Port Philip in 12th February 1849 as assisted
immigrants. They went to live with Mr. Connelly at Moone Falls, Victoria.
Robert was a Blacksmith.
After their arrival in Australia they had the following children:-
Eliza, Robert, Francis, Francis, William and Henry.
The Pioneers of Victoria lists the following:-
Robert Brinnand B Robert Susan Moonee Pnd
CP 1852 17401
Fran James Brinnand B Robert Susan Moonee Pnd CP
1853 18294 (Died at age 1)
Fran Brinnand B Robt Catlow Susan M'Ponds
1855 3197
However I have no records for the other children
Robert set up a forge at "The Junction" at Bungaree and died there of a
heart attack in 1867. From the inquest held at "The Morning Star Hotel"
it appears he was living alone at the time of his death
Robert's death is recorded in the Victoria Civil Registrations in 1867 as
follows:-
Robert Brennand #00408 Unknown Parents Age 54 Born Lancashire.
See notes on the individual children for additional information

Christening: 15 Nov 1812 Padiham, Lancs
Occupation: 1853: Blacksmith
Occupation: 1847: Smithie (on marriage cert)
Death: 1867 Bungeree,Victoria, Australia
Note: Susan had at least two children prior to her marriage to Robert, namely;
George Catlow (1841) and Mary Jane Catlow (1844).
George emigrated to Australia with Robert and Susan and it is assumed he
took the surname Brinnand. There is no information on what happened to
Mary Jane.
On her marriage certificate Susan lists her father as Timothy Binns. It
is assumed that she took her mother's name.
On 19th January 1855 Susan reported to the police that her son, George,
and husband were missing and gave detailed descriptions of both of them.
Susan gave her address as Mt. Alexander Road, near Moonee Pond's Inn.
(The Victorian Police Gazette).
It appears that Susan and Robert were not living together at the time of
Robert's death in 1867. Later in 1867 Susan married William Gilchrist in
Christ Church, Lydiard Street, Ballarat; they lived on Longvilla St.
Ballarat. Susan died in early 1868 at Skipton Road, near Linton and is
buried in an unmarked grave at Linton Cemetery.
A map of the Bungaree area around 1860-70 shows blocks of land owned by
S. Brinnand and another by G. Brinnand. Records also show that a Susan
Briand was granted a publican's licence on 6th Dec. 1865 and her adress
was listed as "Bulla Bulla"

In the Electoral Roll for Wentworth (Police district of Wilcannia) for
1887-88 there is no entry for Francis.
No entry in 1885-86 for Francis... there were not many residences at
Teryawynia so it may have just been starting up.
In a letter from Kathleen Evans (Nee Brinnand) rec'd Dec 23 '96 she tells
us that Francis and Mary McGregor had the following children:
Grace, Myrtle, Maud, Gladys and her father Francis.
She went on to say.....
Francis and Mary McGregor lived quite a pioneering life, they travelled
the outback with their family and a Bullock Team before settling in
Broken Hill a silver mining town. My grandfather a wild one apparently
caught himself alight while riding a horse, because of a smoking pipe in
his pocket. He didn't survive the ride so they say.
