Introduction

Let us make something clear right from the get-go – there is no right or wrong way to play guitar.  The reason that I bring this up is that many times guitarists will ask me “are these the right chords?”  “Did I buy the wrong amplifier?” “Am I playing this too loud?” or, one of my personal favorites, “did I put my G-string on backwards?”  First and foremost, these are not bad questions, they are just ones that really amuse me.  It is OK to ask them because I used to say these sorts of things all the time.  Secondly, such questions that anticipate these “right” or “wrong,” “yes” or “no,” “good” or “bad” response are going to receive a whole mess of different opinions.  That is why I shall bring up my next point – what I have to say in this essay is not “right” or “wrong” because there are a bunch of other perspectives to look into: your friends, your family, professional guitarists, music magazines -- the whole nine yards.  “Right” or “wrong” is a matter of opinion.  At most, take what I have to say as one of those interpretations, not the entire truth.  For the truth is infinite, perspectives are unlimited, and your musical opinions and intuitiveness have no stop sign… they are endless.

Many of you right now are probably wondering why I might be wasting my time saying things that you and I already know.  My answer to that is that there are a lot of other musicians that have a hard time and /or are very confused with simple, important concepts, such as tuning a guitar, copying a strumming pattern, or which guitars are the “right” ones to buy.  Therefore, I will cover such topics in detail to satisfy those queries in a variety of advice columns that will be posted off of this Internet location, which will be intended to aid or enhance beginning, intermediate, and perhaps even professional guitarists with their guitar playing skills, abilities, and/or musical insight.  As the site progresses to get larger and larger, there will be newer and more advice columns.  These articles will focus on different aspects and concepts of guitar playing.  Moreover, one new column will be posted every so often (see the table of contents for a listing of these columns).  Last but not least, I will gladly take any questions or comments from visitors via e-mail, which I may incorporate into future or existing articles.  So, in conclusion, sit back, learn, and enjoy the site!
