Creating A Musical Atmosphere

If you are looking to practice for a good half hour or more in your own home it is a good idea to do it in a quiet, cozy, and comfortable setting.  Too much noise, poor lighting, and a roomful of half-eaten chairs can cause distraction, let alone cause one to not even want to practice at all.  So try to do it in the privacy of your own room, get plenty of rays to help you read your music, and try to use a nice cushioned chair, the fabric of your soft carpet, or something to that is comfortable for you to sit on.  Remember, if you are a very busy person (e.g. work, school, girlfriend, etc.) it is even more imperative that you create such a musical atmosphere around you because it will help you make the most out of the very little practice time that you have.  So if that means telling your in-laws to shut up, buying a brighter bulb instead of using your neighbor’s Christmas lights as reading aids, and hauling that old fungus-filled futon from the attic, then by all means do it.  You will be glad you did.  Your in-laws won’t think so but they will understand later when you become a pro!
