A small village of about 650 trying to exist in WWII, no significant history of resistance to German occupiers.  On June 10th, 1944, a Nazi SS Division enroute to help defend against the Normandy invasion executed the entire village and burned it to the ground.  It has been left as it was so we won't forget that evil does exist and innocents do suffer..

Tom examines a burned out car.  Time and nature have softened the impact.  The green grass is almost and insult to the eye.  How can something so soothing and pleasant exist beside the evidence of this terrible deed?

The old pictures show the village as a pleasant place where people led quiet, established lives.  A place largely by-passed by the ugliness of war.  In a few hours it became a ghost town of fire-scorched bricks ... for no reason anyone can understand.  No one laughed, or even spoke loudly during our visit.

In this church all the women and children of the village were confined and then shot.  It is understandable why there is only one word of greeting when you arrive and the same when you depart ... "Remember"
