These are pictures taken from a short video I made on dressing for the winter at the South Pole. I neglected a layer of Polar Fleece jacket and pants I wear when I am going to be spending a long time outside. This dress you see here is what I wear most of the time, and is fine for my one kilometer walk between the Dome and MAPO.

I start with a layer of polypro long underwear that I basically eat and
sleep in, and wear all the time. I do have on normal underwear beneath
this. Next, I put on my 'carhartts', which are insulated overalls made
for snowmobile people.

The carhartts go on, and then the 'bunny boots'. Here, I'm using the big
blue boots instead of the white plastic bunny boots. They make me walk like
Frankenstein, but they are really warm.

The face is the hardest to protect. Here, I'm using a neck gaiter, face
shield, and 'yazoo' cap, along with goggles to cover up my entire face. If
you don't do a good job here, you can end up with little bits of frostbite
in the places you missed.

Finally, the big parka goes on over everything, and mittens for the hands.

Ready for the Antarctic winter. I can easily stay outside for a half hour
with what you see me wearing. For longer periods, I can put on one more
layer underneath the parka and Carhartts of a Polar Fleece jacket and
pants.
