Heading to Antarctica

After arriving in Christchurch, in order to head down to the "Ice" it is necessary to 'bag drag' and weigh in before the flight down to McMurdo. This is after getting all the Extreme Cold Weather (ECW) gear used in Antarctica. Winterovers at the Pole get three orange bags worth, about 35 pounds. Cramming into the planes is always an adventure, and the only difference between us and regular cargo is that we can move ourselves into our seats. Scott Hut next to McMurdo base is the hut Scott built to support his 1905 (?) expediton to the Pole, and also the one used in 1911/12. Scott Base is New Zealand's base also near McMurdo.
