On to the South Pole!

The flight from McMurdo is done on a ski-equipped LC-130. The flight is about three hours long, and half way to the Pole we cross the Transantarctic Mountains. The Beardmore Glacier is the largest in the world, and over 50 miles wide. Every year the entrance to the South Pole gets more buried by blowing snow, and is now a good 20 feet below the general level of the plateau. The blue building is the MAPO building in the Dark Sector, and is the building I work in. The funny cone on the right of it is a shield for DASI.
