A graduate of the School Psychology program at the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Woody Childress has served as staff psychologist for the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District since 1989. He also maintains a limited private practice. Since 1981, Woody has also worked as a psychologist or associate school psychologist for the Lancaster-DeSoto Special Education Co-op, the Fort Worth Independent School District, and the Arlington Independent School District. Woody is a licensed psychologist, Nationally Certified School Psychologist, Licensed Specialist in School Psychology, and is listed in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. He has served as president of the Tarrant County Psychological Association. His interest in prevention programs equipped Woody to serve as Vice president of Programs for the Tarrant Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse in 1993. While on the board of Tarrant Council, Woody helped coordinate two large workshops featuring prevention specialist H. Stephen Glenn. Woody has been trained by Stephen Glenn to conduct the "Developing Capable People" course and has presented the course more than a dozen times. An active member of Toastmasters International, Woody has served in various leadership capacities, including President of the Reveille Toastmasters club in Fort Worth. In 2001, he was named outstanding Vice-president of Education for the area. Community activities have also involved working with children. Woody has served as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Boy Scout troop 326 in Fort Worth. He is WoodBadge Trained and has served on staff of the National Jamboree and the Longhorn Council Junior Leader Training Program. Currently he is Cubmaster for Pack 2003. For the past several years Woody has served as the Game Director for various AWANA clubs at McKinney Memorial Bible Church. Since 1987, Woody has been an active member at Christ Chapel Bible Church in Fort Worth. He has served on the Missions Committee and has provided psychological services to missionary families returning to the states. Over the years, Woody has taught adult and children Sunday School classes and has been small group leader. Woody has been married since 1980 and has 3 children. All three children are educated at home and Dr. Childress has served on the board of one of the local education support groups.
