The Cuba Experience

Well, I went to the concert July 20, 1996, and it was GREAT! ! ! ! ! ! ! The weather was unbelievably hot, but it did cool down about 7:30 or so, before the concert started at 8:00. Most of the songs were the "old standards" but there were some recent stuff, and two new songs that I assume will be on the next album. They did one encore, "Will the Circle be Unbroken", and dedicated it to the people who were killed in the plane wreck in New York. And the band signed autographs after the show for about an hour or so.

Song List:
I Fought the Law
I've Been Looking
Maybe Baby
Stand a Little Rain
a new song
Mr Bojangles
new song
Workin' Man
Ripplin' Waters
harmonica solo
Fishing in the Dark
Baby's Got a Hold on Me
American Dream
Partners, Brothers, & Friends
Cadillac ranch
Will the Circle Be Unbroken (encore)

So, it was without a doubt the BEST concert I've been to in a while. It didn't rain, it wasn't sweltering hot, and I remembered my camera. All in all, a very good time.

I did take some pictures that came out fairly well, for the camera I was using (not an expensive one). And, as you can tell, the scanner and I weren't doing well - I'm going to rescan them on the *other* scanner, the one that usually works better.

NGDB concert picture
Can we tell it was an outdoor concert?? At least there were no trains (I went to a Billy Dean concert last month - train goes *blasting* by, engineer laying on the whistle for all he's worth. Billy Dean's comment was something like "are there actually enough people around that he has to blow the horn that long?" - very small town, Billy was the only game in town that night). Anyway, there was this plane flying around with an election campaign slogan in lights on the wing.

slightly fuzzy concert shot
this one's kinda fuzzy.

security at the concert
This one is more of the security guys than anything - they were kinda nervous for some reason, and my friends were getting a bit of a kick out of watching them line up and look tough. As we found out after the show, a tornado had touched down a few miles away. Maybe that's why they were worried.
