Find a Mortgage Company

The first step when buying a home is getting prequalified for a loan. Any mortgage company can help you, but there are a few things you should know before choosing a loan officer/lender. Your Realtor® can help you find a reputable mortgage company by providing a list of companies other clients have used & recommended.

Tips: Use a reputable company and don't be afraid to ask about the history of the company, and the background of the loan officer i.e. how long he/she has been in the business, the type of loans they handle, etc.

Determine if the lender you have contacted is a mortgage broker. You'll find there are some advantages as well as some disadvantages to using mortgage brokers.

Ask if there are any programs available especially for you. There are several grant and bond programs available at various times of the year for first time home buyers as well as for teachers, firefighters, medical workers and police officers.
