Rosemary Verey had written 19 books and countless articles about gardening. The garden which she created at Barnsley
House near Cirencester in Gloucestershire is one of the most famous private gardens in England.

Rosemary and I had been close friends since the early '80's and had toured many gardens together throughout these years,
but I always find that her garden was not topped by any of those we had seen.

"While masses of color can be dazzling, a successful garden also imparts a feeling of tranquility", and Rosemary's garden
certainly fulfills my definition of a successful garden! Incidently, she was kind enough to include my garden in her book The
American Man's Garden
