Ella Catherine Curson's Diary
My Grandmother, Ella Catherine Curson began a five year diary
in 1941. She died on March 11, 1941. My father, Farrell J.
Curson Sr., her loving son kept up the diary until May 18, 1944.
Excerpts from the diary:

March 10, 1941

Monday – Crystal washed this morning. The Doctor came. Mother
was awful sick. Rev Clymer & Mrs. Shadley stopped in this evening.
Grandpa Theobald had a bad spell.

March 10, 1942

Tuesday – Very nice day. We all went to town in afternoon. Dad and
Crystal went to Shelby Co. Jamboree at Addison school tonite. I went
to show "How Green Was My Valley".

March 10, 1943

Wednesday – Temp. 40 this A.M. Rained very hard about all day.

March 10, 1944

Friday – Cold this morning. We worked. We went uptown to-night, I
went to show.

March 11, 1941

Tuesday – The wind was blowing hard & about 30° F. Mother was
awful sick. Aunt Lucille & Aunt Leola stopped in at noon. Mother set
up in chair & tried to eat dinner. She got worse, the doctor came at
3:40 P.M. Aunt Laura & Uncle Wilbur stopped in just before Mother
died at about 4:30 P.M. I was down at barn.

March 11, 1942

Wednesday – Nice day, temp. 54 this afternoon. Dad cleaned yard
this morning. One yr. Ago this evening Mother passed away. I sure
miss her. My leg still achs.

March 11, 1943

Thursday – Temp. 30 to-day. Rained & froze, ice everywhere. Two
years ago this evening. Mother passed away. George Neeb's wife
died to day.

March 11, 1944

Saturday – I worked this A.M. Dad went uptown. I went uptown ton-
nite. 3 yrs. Ago to-day Mother passed away.

March 12, 1941

Wednesday – It was cloudy & cold wind. We went to town & got
Mother's dress & made funeral arrangements. They brought Mother
back home at 6:30 P.M. Many People were here.

March 12, 1942

Thursday – Temp. 34 this A.M. & cloudy. Nice in afternoon. Dad
burned some brush. Mr. Bogeman & Bud were here this evening.

March 12, 1943

Friday – Temp. 24 this A.M. , cloudy. Pearl C. Craig died to-day.

March 12, 1944

Sunday – Rainy this morning. We went to Wallace's. Uncle Wilbur,
Aunt Laura & Martha were there. I went to show to-nite.

March 13, 1941

Thursday – It snowed this morning. Grandpa isn't going to get to see
Mother. This is the last night Mother will be with us.

March 13, 1942

Friday – Temp. 42 Cloudy & rainy. We all went to town this afternoon.
We went out to cemetery to see marker & then down to Jones & paid
for it. $65.00.

March 13, 1943

Saturday – fine day. Dad worked for Mr. Beyer. I went to town.

March 13, 1944

Monday – We worked. I went uptown to show to-nite.

March 14, 1941

Friday – It is a fine day, the sun is shining. Mother's funeral was at
Church at 10:30 A.M. There were a big crowd. She had 22 different
Flowers. Dad, I, Crystal, & Mary Helen went to see Grandpa to-night.

March 14, 1942

Saturday – Temp. 40, foggy, rained last nite. Cleared up in afternoon.
I took Crystal to town about 2 P.M. I listened to ball games & went to
show.

March 14, 1943

Sunday – Clear & warm. We went to S.S. & to Grandpa's for dinner.
Went to Barber Craig's funeral in afternoon. I was flowerbearer. I
went to town to-night.

March 14, 1944

Tuesday – Fine day. I walked uptown to-nite. We worked.

March 15, 1941

Saturday - It is snowing & a cold wind. Dad & I are pretty good. We
sure miss Mom.

March 15, 1942

Sunday – We went to S.S. & Church & to Grandma's, Uncle Wilbur's &
Wallace's were there too. Sun is shining, temp. up to 64. Lawrence
Beyer came home this evening. I went to show tonite.

March 15, 1943

Monday – Cloudy & temp. 56 at noon. Rained in afternoon. Dad
washed this morning. I don't feel so good to-day.

March 15, 1944

Wednesday – Rained this evening. I went to show to-nite. We
worked.
