  • Inclination means bending forward, sideways, backward, or at an angle from the waist. It can be defensive or offensive. Defensive inclination is bending the body to avoid attack. Bending forward permits you to bob, weave, duck, slip, or angle forward or sideways. You can lean to the rear. Offensive inclination's effectiveness comes from its quickness. Snapping forward and hitting at the same time permits the combination of mommentum and the speed of the arm. Adding a step increases the momentum. The offensive inclination is not leaning forward to reach the opponent. Having to reach for the opponent means he is not in the correct range.
  • Ipsigogy means teaching oneself. It is a compound word made from two Latin terms: ipsi- , meaning oneself, and -gogy, meaning teaching. It was created by Carl Hayes on 31 July 2001 during an exchange of emails on the Judo-L list group.
