- Eskrima is derived from a Latin/French word, escrimir(sp), which is to fence or
skirmish. Using the definition to skrimish, which is to say 'to fight', whatever you do to
fight and win, or lose for that matter, is Eskrima.
- Espada is Spanish for a sword.
- Espada y daga means the method of using a sword and a knife together. It generally
refers to the more linear European approach to using the sword.
