Why do I practice emergency medicine? I like the variety of cases I see and the excitement of treating emergencies in the fast paced environment of the E.R. I also enjoy the opportunity to help people who have no other source of medical care available to them. The coolest Emergency Medicine web site I know of is ERWorld.com . Look for my essay called "Riding the Beast" there. Other good medicine related links include The National Institute of Health, the National Library of Medicine's HyperDOC and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Do your own free Medline Search for journal articles on any medical topic.
One day I was standing at a window waiting for an elevator while my beeper continuously went off. A block away from the hospital I noticed a golf course with a lone player in the middle of a fairway. I could picture him standing there with no greater concern than whether his next shot was going to be with a 5 iron or a 6 iron. Years later I turned to golf to relieve the stress of working in an emergency room.

The fundamental principles guiding my life can be found in the Baha'i faith. Years ago I searched for the religion that would answer all the questions I had about the world around me. Why were there so many religions in the world and why didn't God make it more clear to us which one we were supposed to follow? Then I discovered the Baha'i faith, a religion that teaches the oneness of all the world's great religions.
The utterance of God is a lamp, whose light is these words: Ye are the fruits of one tree, and the leaves of one branch. Deal ye one with another with the utmost love and harmony, with friendliness and fellowship. He Who is the Day Star of Truth beareth Me witness! So powerful is the light of unity that it can illuminate the whole earth. The one true God, He who knoweth all things, Himself testifieth to the truth of these words.
