Day 9, August 25, Qualicum Beach to Vancouver: For some reason we both woke up at 5:30 am to greet the dawn at Qualicum Beach. Edie had left us some freshly ground coffee which we brewed up. And we sat out on the deck of the cabana and watched the sun come up over the Strait of Georgia. We almost couldn't believe where we'd just spent the night.

Sunrise at the Cabana
Our gracious hosts made sure we had plenty of fuel for the ride to Nanaimo, hot oatmeal with berries from the garden, coffee, toast, and juice for breakfast. We could have lingered a lot longer, but we had a ferry to catch back to Vancouver. The stretch of road from Qualicum Beach south is a lot busier than the northern part of the island but still a pleasant ride with nice views all the way.

After a nice long break from riding on the hour and a half ferry ride back to Horseshoe Bay we headed back through West Vancouver toward the Lions Gate Bridge and our hotel overlooking English Bay in downtown Vancouver. All told, another 45 mile day of easy riding.

We knew it was going to be tough to top last year's trip to Wyoming. But we had a great time in British Columbia and it's not exactly a complaint to say we endured no physical hardships at all, the distances and terrain were very easy, and nine days of sunshine are tough to beat. Viva Canada! Home
