Day 2, August 18, Sechelt to Powell River: After a nice evening in Sechelt we continued on toward Powell River. It's about 35 miles to the next ferry crossing at Earl's Cove along a quiet road through foresty scenery with occasional glimpses of the Straits of Georgia. The ferry ride takes about 45 minutes and then it was more of the same riding for another 20 miles into Powell River. At 55 miles this was our longest day and still pretty easy. We checked into a motel in the center of town and set out to see the sights and find a place to have dinner.

Powell River is not the end of the coast road which continues on a few miles north to Lund. But it's where you catch the ferry to Vancouver Island so it was as far north as we'd go on the mainland. Traveling by bike, our sightseeing is pretty much restricted to where we can walk once we stop cycling for the day. And there's not much to see within easy walking distance in this old paper mill town. But the views of the Straits and its islands are always great.

So far the weather had been amazingly nice. Perfect temperatures with no sign of rain in the forecast. We had one of the best meals of the trip at a little Greek restaurant that overlooked the water with views of nearby Texada Island and took a nice stroll around town afterwards. Next morning we'd catch the 8am ferry across to Vancouver Island. Next
