Day 3, August 19, Powell River to Campbell River: I know all these pictures are starting to look alike. I can hardly tell one view from another. But the scenery along the Straits of Georgia is wonderful. There are so many mountains on the mainland coast it's like trying to distinguish celestial constellations. I suppose there's someone who could name all the peaks, but not us.


Looking back at the Mainland from Just North of Comox
This was one of our easiest days of riding. Dead flat, and only about 35 miles. We started the morning with coffee and pastries at an outdoor cafe across the street from our motel in Powell River. Then a short walk down to the ferry terminal for the one-hour cruise across the Straits to Comox on Vancouver Island. From Comox it's a short, easy ride up Highway 19 to Campbell River.

1st Nations Long House, Campbell River
After the short ride we checked into a hotel in the center of Campbell River. Your sense of smell will tell you that Campbell River, like Powell River, is still a pulp mill town. But clearly, tourism, retirement living, fishing, and recreation form a big part of the economy now.

We had a great fish & chips lunch at a little place on one of the marinas and spent the afternoon walking around and taking in the sights. Next
